View Full Version : Wellington: Newbie Ride Sunday April 22
Grub
15th April 2007, 20:01
Event location: Wellington - Upper Hutt City
-------------------------------------------------------------
Following on from the excellently organised rides by Mr & Mrs Kendog based on the format driven by Uncle Bruce, while the weather is still great, here's another one.
Starting with the obligatory ride to the top of the hill to meet up with the 'Rapa crew and then back for an interesting ride through the Whitemans loop.
Meet at Rimutex 11 am for 11.30 departure
Ride Rimutaka Summit to meet the 'rapa crew,
back down to Te Marua, left into the Maymorn Plateau, along the Mangaroa Valley and into Whiteman's Valley to the Short Straw Cafe (a primo location and licensed cafe) at http://www.smaps.co.nz/nz/upper+hutt...s/hinkley+way/
The ride from Te Marua to the cafe is about 21km of interesting and sometimes bumpy roads. The cafe is then only about 7km via Blue Mountains Rd (interesting ride!) down to Silverstream and SH2.
Have just checked the long-range rural forecast for Wairarapa and Kapiti, both show "Fine, dry, light winds".
I have made a booking at the cafe and we have our own dining area reserved but of course, they would like to know numbers - an indication is fine, it's not a committment. Just make your mark on the Calendar http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1243&day=2007-4-22 so that we hav an indication as the week goes on.
Cheers

I think Vicki and I have had enough of motorbikes for a bit and frankly we are getting confused about lines and backpacks so we probably won't attend because we just realised we probably don't actually know how to ride one... but we do want to go to this cafe' - oh the choices the choices... drat..

I read about your "holy crap" experience when passing on Sunday's ride on the other thread but I'm confused here trying to figure out what the backpacks bit means, can you enlighten me more?

Not so much holy crap but 'why did I do THAT ffs????' Just didn't leave myself enough room when toting a pillion on an old bike - dumb dumb dumb..
sigh -
Back pack thing was from Hitchers comment in another thread.. Not important - you had to be there...

We may be there, but have not had a free weekend day for ages so may need to just chill out instead.

Good on u Grub ! I'll mostlikely attend this one again I hessitated with the last one since it appeared to me more and more as an overcautious and peer-pressure ride rather than a nice and reaxed one. But reading through the feedback it obviously was just as nice as the one on 8th April

We know that most people don't bother to register for an event but turn up anyway. That for most people depends on the weather. That's pretty fine but I'd like to give the cafe some numbers so they're expecting us and we get good service.
If you're more than 50/50 sure of coming on Sunday, could I ask you to stick your name in the list at http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1243&day=2007-4-22 just for the hell of it. Nobody's going to be upset if you don't turn up.
For those who have never been over this road or in this area, it's a real gem and having been there once, I have no doubt you'll go back again on your own. This is one of the best newbie training roads I can think of too - it has no traffic.
The weather for Sunday is for Fine, Dry & Light winds .... it going to be another cracker!

What type of visa do I need?
And do you have rapa biofuel over there to run my bike or should I bring a spare tank full?

What type of visa do I need?
Citizens of (almost) good standing who ride motorcycles do not need Visas as long as proof of KB membership is provided
And do you have rapa biofuel over there to run my bike or should I bring a spare tank full?
:dodge:
You should be ok ... if you follow Hawkeye around you should catch enough biogas to get you back over the border
