Hey all. Time to buy a new rear tyre (180/55/17) - think I'll go for something a little harder in the centre this time, heard the Michelin Pilot Rds have dual rubber (hard in centre, soft on outers) . Anyone got a good deal recently, or know of somewhere in the Auckland region?

Cheers.

Yep, agree with Vifferman and Big Dave. Have done several thousand km on them now and they are the best all-round tyre I've ever had on the 'bird. Great grip in the dry and unbelievably good in the wet. Handled the worst excesses of south island west coast weather with no problem whatsoever. See http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=46385.

As awesome as the reviews are on this tyre (and your offered price too), I don't think I could justify such rubber for commuting and the weekend burn. But thanks for the offer...

Rang Kerry, apparently the Avon Storms are getting up to 20K...?! Either way, should get more mileage than my M1s (5000 miles on the rear).

Cheers guys - always good to hear an unbiased / non-sales pitch view.

Hmmmm.... 20 K if they're fitted to a moped perhaps:innocent: I think you'd look at around half that for an RF 900, ot a bit more if you're doing a high percentace of commuting. I do stuff-all commuting.

I got 16k out of the Azaro's on the ZX12, admittedly it was mostly slow open road stuff, but they still had 4k plus to go on them, had just sqaured off a bit and the storms are supposed to last the same or better...

I have Avon's on my bike......
The last set I got over 37,000km on the rear tyre and over 40,000 on the front.

I have got another set of Avons back on my cruiser.
Must check to see how many kms I have done on this set so far..... ok I have checked.
Front: Avon roadrunner 10,000kms so far with plenty of wear left
Rear: Avon Venom-x 29,000kms with still plenty of wear left.

So yep see Kerry at Motohaus.

5000 miles is about 8000 km so that sounds about right. Can I suggest the Continental Road Attack, might be worth a look. Im considering throwing a rear at the SV in the very near to imediate future.

Yep, got Avons too that are lasting forever, but with 250cc bikes like ours, tyres tend to die from old age rather than wear. Unless you really abuse them. Blackbirds I don't think are so forgiving :innocent:

I got 8000km out of a sportec M1 rear, and have had 5000 out of the Roadtec Z6 I replaced it with - looks only about half worn, but I'm putting a new one on tomorrow in preparation for the Southern Cross next week.

Had 10000Km out of the Sportec M1 front, but it is staring to look tired (excuse the pun), so replacing it with the Z6 tomorrow too.

I do about 25 km per day in 50 - 70 km zones, so the Z6's handle commuting pretty well and I like cruise around 100 - 110 ish open road when I get the opportunity (couple of hours every couple of weeks).

Yep! I'm getting a pair of Road Attacks too for the CB this weekend. (c/o TSS)

Previous rubber munching was:

16000K on the OE Michelin Macadam (Front)
7500K on the OE Michelin Macadam (Rear)
8500K on the (replacement BT020) (Rear)

99% of my riding is two-up so whether or not those results are good I dunno, but it will be interesting to compare the new Contis.
