they really do work!! :sunny: in light of whats happened recently, im happy to be able to type this.

had a couple of mongrels do a drive off from my petrol station yesterday. $70.88 worth gone. went over when they arrived and offered help, got told they were ok.
wandered to other side of the forecourt, watching the guys.
next thing, hes in the car, and theyre gone. if a car had been coming the opposite way, they would have been destroyed. if id been close enough to get in front of them, i would have been flattened. [not that i would have done that anyways...]

get my inside co worker the call the cops [111]. shes on with them for about 20 mins or more. im in the window writing down the details [got the plate and make when i went over initially] of car and occupants [two of em]
shes off the phone, so i go out the back to call the operations manager [oh, oh, oh, im just going out for lunch, ill get the security footage tomorrow.] hmm, thanks for nothing.
get back out the front, and my girls talking to a cop. he takes statement and details from me and leaves.

the drive-off happened at exactly 10.30am.

the day ticks away in a blur of customers and shop cleaning [i started the dishes... didnt get em finished though]

1pm rolls round... 1 hour till home time. phone goes. they got em.

the hour passes, and im home. 3pm arrives...

phone at home goes. its my girl from work. seems they got him doing 127k :stupid: up a 50k street littered with families and elderly.
court tomorrow for him, but we arent needed. mufti car got him, and the theft came up during the checks.

so... im pleasantly surprised... i was expecting nothing to be done in tracking the assholes. the cops actually do something right now and then!

sunday, 15 april 2007. my very first drive off. :first:

Good to hear the system occasionally works

But but but, all he was doing was speeding............ why did the bloody cop bother stopping him in the first place?

LOL... yeah - I can't add anything to what you said without appearing anti Police even though it would be a huge pisstake.

127.... 50.... elderly, families. Not many on here seriously defend that.

But even if they pulled them up for 51 in a 50...... pull over enough people, find some bad guys. I myself don't complain about being pulled over, it's the back pocket impact that gets me going.

Yeah well its the back pocket impact that pisses a lot of cops off too but the point is that while very few motorists are criminals, virtually all criminals drive. Stopping vehicles and checking the details of the drivers is a very effective way of catching bad guys, as has been demonstrated by this story.

I admit this is quite effective, and most times i've been pulled over (referring specifically to when i've done nothing wrong) it's been a quick sort of exercise, so i have no problem with that.

Don't criminals also live somewhere, should cops go door knocking? (p/t)

Yeah, but those 'somewheres' are just a tad too unhygienic for anybody but the criminals to enter....

TV1 news tonight, some human rights bloke was criticising the Cops for actively targetting burglars and criminal types in Christchurch at the time of day that most criminal activity goes on in the area!!!

Seems the poor blokes in Blue just can't do anything right, sometimes...

Not even me and I've had my wallet downloaded a few times in recent months. 111 on the highway is a tad different to 127 in a 50. If they'd cruised home at 55 they might have got away with it. I'd never condone ripping off a gas station but seriously, these guys were asking to get caught and while banging them up is to be applauded it's not exactly Sherlock Holmes stuff it it? However, well done one and all.

The crims obviously have not heard the jingle "when the conditions change..."

They now had a full tank of petrol, so should have been driving slower!
Tsk, tsk.

Well if it had been a speed camera he wouldn't have had to stop... Just goes to show we need real coppers out there. Job well done.

And so th ejustification for the speed cameras is therefore...? "sorry we didn't catch the toerags - but we sent them an invoice and photo for their wall!"

Seriously, if you're not up to anything, you've got nothing to hide, right? I do a few drugs now and then but I don't carry them coz it's not a regular thing. I don't pinch shit, I don't buy stolen shit, I don't have more than a pint or two when riding/driving, so no DIC and I rarely carry mangled bodies in the trunk of my automobile. Not much chance of me getting into strife when searched by the coppers so why not let them have a look? I'd be sick on the spot if my place got turned over and the bobbies were dishing out TON's around the corner instead of tipping out low-lifes. I've got a grunty stereo, loads of CD's, a computer that I earn a living with and I DON'T want any of it pinched.

exactly.

well.. get to work yesterday, and no one says a thing to me about it! 4 staff members wandering around [not including myself] and not a single comment.
oh well... next time i wont bother calling it in.

mwvt... you make a good point. it would be easy enough to access records of registration [vehicles] to find those out of date. i saw one two days ago that was due march 06!! thats an easy way to collect revenue... have one guy sitting on his ass typing, and another guy stuffing envelopes.

Did anyone explain why it took that amount of time to report the rego and description of a drive-off?

The cops do tens of thousands of 'things right' every year. We just never hear about it. The media only seek to sell papers and gain ratings by picking at them when things do go wrong - and only by a minority few that spoil it for the rest of them.
