Bugger! I broke my wrist on Easter Monday doing downhill mountain biking.. Recently came out hospitable with pins. I hope I will still be able to ride a bike.. Apparently I have nerve damage, and it was quite a bad break.. I dont plan on riding until I feel no pain but..
Has anyone here broken a wrist badly? How long until you could ride a motorbike again? Also, what should I do to the bandit (preventative maintanance wise) while its not being ridden? I'm guessing they dont like sitting...
Thanks guys
And don't mention karma again.. I've been dished some mean luck!

ouch!! that's gotta smart!!
don't think you'll help it heal any quicker by over-straining it .... mebbe lay the bike up for a while?

You'll need to have a word to your specialist. I'm pretty sure that you will need a reasonable amount of rehabilitation once the pins come out, to build up movement and strength.
(FWIW I had pins in the bone that runs down the outside of my right hand to line up all the bits. They were only in for five weeks (was shattered pretty badly) so you might not be off for months. I was able to ride again within six weeks, but it was painful putting gloves on, etc.
The nerve and tissue damage is probably the bigger problem. In my case the bone has healed well, and two years later the bones that I broke are nice and smooth. However my little pinkie still sticks out at a slight angle and I still get pins and needles, and restricted feeling, down the outside of my hand in the cold.)
Good luck.
With your bike have a look at the Northern Hemisphere bike sites and see what they say about storing your bike for winter. Basically add some fuel stabiliser to a full tank of gas, remove your battery, and if you can lift your tyres off the ground when it's stored.

I've broken both my wrist (mountain biking) and thumb (racing) both of which required 6 weeks in a cast up to elbow.
After each I wasn't really do do much with that hand for a good 4 weeks and then it was another 6 months till I was 100% with it. Didn't really help that I wasn't fully recovered from the first break when the second one happened.
Just make sure you do what the doctor says and get physio sorted for immediately after you get the cast off. They will give you heaps of exercises to do to get back to shape.
Hope all goes well.

Thanks for the help/kind words. I'll do lots of physio, hopefully I can get back on asap.
I guess i can get fuel stabaliser from nearly anywhere.
Cheers folks!

Depending on how long you are off your bike.......as per specialist orders.
I suggest you have a read of this thread in case you end up storing your bike for a long length of time that you won't be riding.

I had eight weeks in a cast and it was another eight weeks before I was back to full strength for a scaphoid
I went riding while I was still in plaster about week 6, but it was hard to countersteer and use the clutch
