so basically
how do i go about getting this bike into my name?

ltsa says....

Step 1

Take the vehicle to a TSD agent with proof that it has been previously registered in New Zealand and that you’re the person entitled to reregister the vehicle.
The proof of previous registration can be old registration papers or documentation that verifies the vehicle’s VIN or chassis number. For instance, registration plates and a warrant of fitness checksheet, or registration plates and insurance policy documents that show the VIN or chassis number.
The TSD agent will need to be satisfied that these documents demonstrate that the vehicle, when originally registered, was designed and constructed according to the requirements applying at that time. For example, vehicles manufactured before 1991 don’t need to meet as many vehicle standards.
Step 2

The TSD agent will inspect the vehicle, attach a VIN to it if necessary, and issue a Record of Certification for compliance with registration requirements. The TSD agent will charge a fee for the vehicle inspection and certification. Information about the vehicle will be added to the Motor Vehicle Register.
Step 3

The vehicle will qualify for a warrant of fitness from the date it passes the TSD agent’s inspection.
Step 4

The TSD agent can reregister and license the vehicle for you so that you can legally drive it on the road. The reregistration and licensing fee includes the cost of the new registration plates and the necessary licence labels. The vehicle can be reregistered immediately by the TSD agent or within the period for which the Record of Certification is valid.
Step 5

Your vehicle may be driven on the road when it has its new registration plates, licence label, warrant of fitness label and (if applicable) RUC licence attached.

as step one says i need documentation showing that model bike and i assume...that it's actually mine?,yes the wrecker can give me a receipt, but is that enough proof...and if i show them the vir saying they dunno who the old owner is...and that i have a receipt from the wrecker i bought it off, is that enough proof to allow me a revin ...yes it is still a complete bike.

i want to get this bike back on the road but i'm at a loss

put simply

help!

as far as i have been told by the wreckers the new owner did not give any details when he bought it as he moved and didn't want ltsa or anybody i think for that matter...finding him.

no idea why.

From reading the LTSA information, isn't it easy? The TSD Agent wants proof of the bike's details and history, you have that in the VIR Report.

Why not just go to the Agent and ask them?????

but how do i prove that i own it when current registered owner is persons unknown? how do i put that into my name

bungbung

Because it's been deregistered, they don't care who the last registered owner is. It may have passed through several other sets of hands, it doesn't really matter. As long as it has been reg'd in NZ and hasn't been reported stolen you'll be listed as the new owner.

I did this with about a month ago.

You have proof in that you should have a bill of sale from the wreckers. This with the police report saying it is of no interest should be enough. You also have a history of the bike as well.

Bikes and cars do get lapses in registration, left in garages or at wreckers and sold on. This is all that has happened to your bike.

I went through this process with my current bike. No VIN and no WOF. It took a trip to the police station to get the poice to say there is no interest and then over the road in Wairau Park to the place next to the AA testing station to get my VIN. I think I got the WOF first, can't remember it was a while ago. The process was straight forward, the only one freaking out about it and being nervous was me. All the people I dealt with were super helpful and some even helped out by tweaking one or two bits on the bike.

Good luck.

Take it to AA in Glenfeild --Get a receipt from the wrecker and keep a copy of the stuff you just printed out.
They will tell you if you need a brake cert --If ya do give Alex a yell He can do one if you do.
Wait a couple of days and you'll have your compliance and ya WOF
Check all ya lenses have compliance marks on em,the tyres are all legal. No leaking fork seals -ends areon brake n clutch levers --other wise no compliance.

Another point you may be able to use if all else fails is to go to a JP (justice of the Peace) and fill at a sworn statement saying that you are the legal owner, he will witness it and LTSA or Compliance agent will have to accept it, you wll ofcourse need to ensure it has a engine/chassis number attached to relevant items and that it meets current LTSA standards... then just proceed normally.. get it approved by Compliance Centre and rego's & warranted...

johnnyflash
19th April 2007, 16:07
PS... you will need to take Proof OF Identity, ie photo id/licence etc) along to a JP, the JP services are free btw... and are dotted all over the city..

i went to a justice of the peace (look in phone book) write a letter saying that you bought it in best interests from a wrecker (show him the paper work you just put up, and get a receipt to show aswell). JOTP will stamp and sign and you are away, show this to the guy when you go for your VIN. Its not hard... just dont get excited okay dude.

I don't know about a jp. When I got my bike done, all that VTNZ were interested in was their form, the statement from the Police stating that it's of no interest.

Go to your local testing station, get a copy of this form and get it filled out by the cops and you're all good.

larriken

It is super easy..........

Get the vin or engine number and go to the police to get the vehicle signed off as no interest to them, ie, it's not stolen.

Take your bike to a certified bike shop to get the brakes measured. Normally costs $100 to $150 depending on the bike shop.

Take both of these bits of paper and proof of purchase along to AA or VTNZ. Job's done, they will check the bike and that's it, you get new plates.

Only catch can be if the vehicle was dereg and noted that it was structural. Then you have to have a certed engineer report saying it's been fixed.

Hope that helps.

cheers mate very helpfuil, so breaks will definately need checking, wondered that...

you only need a cert for the brakes if the bike is after 1990 (from memory, check up). Definetley not for a 1987 bike.

The whole process is simple:
1. The WOF station will give you a form to take to the police (a photo copied form where U state that U are the owner and where the police fill in the blanks saying that it is not stolen and bla bla) Police do not charge for this.
2. Fix up bike to WOF standards. Make sure all lights and indicators have linses with the numbers on (as some of the replacement/after mark ones do not). Make sure the fork seals are OK etc. (Like for any WOF)
3. Take in and fill in form. If U have some papers on that U bought her then take with U, but if not then no worries.
4. They will do the rest and U will pay the $$'s. U now have the bike VIN'ed (if it did not have a VIN plate before. If it did have one, then they use that one). U also now have a WOF.
5. Now the owner (can be U or someone else) pays for the registration and gets a new plate. Minimum for 6 months. This does not have to be done at same time. U can take bike home after the VIN process if U for ex. have done up bike for sale and do not want it regoed in your name.

No need to sweat here. And I have always found the guys/gals at the VTNZ very friendly and helpful

All the best.

Thanks for that, I'd wondered why some bikes needed the cert and others didn't.
