Yes, it's official, I am now part of the prestigious club of lane splitters who have been ticketed.
And being me, I did it with great style and made sure there was a reasonable chance of other bikers noticing.
Hence the thread title.
So, when the very nice gentleman asked me if there was any reason why I was in such a hurry, my answer was clearly "No reason that would be acceptable to you".
Gotta love the guy that had been splitting through at similar speed and shakes his head at me (he obviously saw the cop)......:innocent:
So yeah, take it easy out there boys n girls, oh and use your indicator.

Yeah, pretty sure that was the wording ($150.00) the timing is fortuitous, as my first email this morning confimed my half yearly bonus payment date!

I take it was a bike cop that pulled you. If it was and the bikes number plate was 46WME then I have spotted that rider doing exactly what he just booked you for.
On more than one occasion
Lane Splitting.

What was the infringement?
Mine was unsafe lane changing. $150. No demerits.

The nice gentleman allowed me to head to my very important meeting, so I can't confirm the exact wording until the infringement arrives in the mail in seven to ten days.
I will assume that it will be the same as yours, as changing lanes without indicating would surely translate to "unsafe lane changing"?

I don't see why not indicating is unsafe. If the actual manoevre did not cause anyone to stop, swerve etc how would indicating make it safer?

Hey
No worries, to be fair I should not have been so cocky and stayed behind ya ;)
I would have seen him from the inside lane as you did, as it was I didn't see him until I was nearly beside him !
DOH.

Basically; I was riding in an illegal manner, fair and square.
Just ask VeeTWIN_PJS :innocent: .....
There is no point in debating this issue buddy. The law is the law.

In my case it had nothing to do with the not indicating, as I was indicating.
The cop was more concerned with the speed differential between the cars and myself, and the rapidity of my lane changing.
Giving him the talk about how riders of large capacity motorcycles have the reactions of jet fighter pilots made no headway.

you should have gone with the chuck norris-like spidie senses. and if he laughed just roundhouse kick him and say 'SEE? too quick for YOU, mofo'.
that would have convinced him.

I like it....krsh ah ground control, this is tornado mike alpha delta commencing bomb run....krsh
So far I havent been given my club papers for lane splitting but normally I'm pretty good with the whole speed differential thing...do you reckon this was the main problem the rozzer had?
I did get firked off with a tw@ van driver yesterday morning and definately was not thinking of speed differential as I used a bus stop (which further up turned into a bus lane) to rapidly take the van on the inside....on seeing the cop parked on the other side of the road however, I almost pulled a stoppy on the other side of the bus stop, parked the bike and went into the adjacent dairy to buy....anything really....of course I meant to do that ocifer. :Police: :innocent:

In my case, well, errrmmm, to be honest, yeah......
I am pretty sure that should the speed differential and general attitude of the bike and rider have been different, and I hadn't indicated whilst splitting, he would not have bothered with me.
Naughty girly??? Spank me??? :devil2:
Lesson learnt is that I should ride the bike more often so that when I get on it I don't get carried away. Oh and get the bloody F3 bike out on the track "stat" so I can get my fix in the appropriate forum.

I went past you too - I shook my head at the cop, and the fact you had been pulled over...
You weren't riding dangerously - the traffic was crawling, 40-45K was all I was doing...
Thursday last week I got pulled over by an HP, license check - he got out of the car and said "dont worry, you havent done anything wrong - just a license check to make sure I was legal for the Bandit."
Anyhow, we spent the next 10 mins talking about the bike/bike stuff, I asked him for his view on lane-splitting - his response was that he had no problem with it, so long as it wasnt dangerous to myself or other road users around me...
GG - you were hard done by...

Good point.
No point defending it on the side of the road though. Usually, when faced with a query, your average copper will reply "Is that right? Would you prefer careless driving?"
Considering the amount of lane splitting I do, a $150 fine every four years is pretty good odds I reckon... touch wood.

the other one you would have to watch out for, is passing on the left of the fast lane, that will also carry a $150... Yep, I joined that club last year
If anything, I think the bike cops might be worse than the HP...

I've split behind the same bike cop three times along Manukau Rd.
Of course, one individual isn't necessarily representative.

There's 2 hondas, then bmws... I passed a honda a couple of times, no issues, then either that one, or the other, got me from the top of a bridge, went after me, and let rip...
As some have said... view it as a tax. Do it one day, no issue. Next day you get hammered for the same thing...
