Looking at a bike with a personalised plate on it at the mo that the owner wants to keep - does anyone know how long it would take him to put a normal plate (presumably the old reg) back on? Is it a pop in the AA job, or do they have to wait for a new plate through the post?? What happens about the ownership document?

easy as pie
goes down to AA does a change of plate form, system is updated straight away
then do a change of ownership forms once bike is picked it up

or go down to the testing station with the seller, do a plate swap and change of ownership at the same time. i don't think the AA/post office carries plates (down here they don't)

We did this when I sold my GSX-R1000. We had to get a new plate for it (our's came from the AA) before we could sell it. It didn't go back to the original plate - it was completely new.
Cajun should be able to tell you how much it cost us to get the new plate. Once we did that, we completed the change of ownership papers with the new plate number.

Yep real easy to change to a regular plate again. The owner just takes the bike to an authorised place place (we used VTNZ) and they did it straight away (gave a replacement place etc). Landtransport send out new paperwork, but if you wanted to buy the bike straight off, they can give you generic paperwork (postoffice - change of ownership papers).
You can also change ownership online, which we did today for hubby's bike - much easier. www.transact.landtransport.govt.nz - no forms, no pissing around with standing in line.

Walked into AA (Off Lambton Quay), filled in two forms. One was to take the Personalised plate off the CBX and replace it with a new one (Which they got out of a cupboard). The second was to put the Personalised plate onto the CB500. (and they kept the old plate). Took about 10 mins in total.
They will give you replacement reg's at the same time. Only thing they don't do is issue replacement WOF's with the new plate on. Not sure of the process around the wof. I swapped them over a couple of weeks before the WOF was due so it wasn't an issue for me as I was getting a new wof anyway.
