I won't be able to come on the ride myself  but how about the usual (and unusual) supsects meet at Rimutaka Caltex at say 10am?

Just to go for a blat & meet these likely lads from the North. :niceone:

Anybody else wanna be "in charge" of details from here on in.

Cheers Cathy

Rimutaka Caltex is on the main road from Upper Hutt .

If you go up the motorway (up River Road) it joins up with Fergusson Drive eventually.

Caltex Rimutaka is about 800km's south of the turnoff to the Akatarawa Rd and the Kaitokes (the hilly road before the Rimutakas). It's about 600m from the end of the Upper Hutt motorway.

You can't miss it. :niceone:

Akatarawa Road is okay up to Staglands, I travel up there most weekends as that's where my in-laws new house is (next door to Staglands).

As for the Reikorangi to Staglands bit, can't tell you.

Only problem is the snow and ice at the moment really.

Just use common sense and you'll be sweet.

BTW look in your mailbox tomorrow for a nice surprise.

My Aunty had to drive over from Waikanae end about a week ago and said it wasn't too bad. Last time I rode over (about a month ago) there were a few slips & there are still parts of the road that haven't been resealed from the big storm back in Feb! But it's rideable.

I might pop up to Caltex to say "Gidday" :spudwave:

Do yourself a favour and DON'T use the Akatarawa road...

It's quicker over the Paekakariki hill road and Haywards not to mention more fun! You bike might be a lot nimbler than my Guzzi but mate, that road sucks on a bike. Even without the plonkers in house sized 4WD's than cannot actually get around the bends without crossing onto your side (there is only 1 side in some place) it's just nasty!

If I get my oil changed this week I might be keen if it's no longer artic tundra on top of the hill. It means an early leave from the coast though and I will have house guests and a hangover so we have to see....

Just to help motivate you, I'll beetle up to your place to dig you out of bed, and meet up with you and Blakamin.

Blakamin and I need to have that Roadie vs Drummer smackdown, and I'll need someone to take me to hospital and store my bike in their garage after he's finished with me.

I'm a bit confused. Can someone please enlighten me?

Are we riding Saturday 4th heading north to meet up somewhere with Cajun etc as they head towards Wgtn?

Or are we riding Sunday 5th to accompany LooseBruce/Quasi some of the way on their return journey back north?

If it's Sat can't do.

Sunday can do, weather dependent.

Cheers Cathy10am Sunday, Caltex Rimutaka. Follow SH2 through the Hutt Valley until the road turns Suburban at Upper Hutt. You go past a Dairy on the left at some lights, some houses, then a Tavern on the Left followed immediately by Caltex Rimutaka. We'll leave there at 10:30am for Martinborough, followed by a ride out past Gladstone and on to Masterton for lunch, and then home again.

Or something like that.

If you wanna go on Saturday, then do, but I'll still be going on Sunday.

Good on ya Glenn. Great news!

I would hope you get a ticket rather than fall off though... that's a hard one to learn the not opening the throttle.

It took me about 18 minutes to get a ticket after getting my bike... :o

but I slowed down before I fell off.

Didn't stop me falling off 4 months later though, but it probably stopped me falling off in the first few days of ownership.

Enhoy the new bike...

How many of you?? I can probably manage an indifferent pasta for a small mob. Because if too many turn up it converts to boiling oil so's I can repel boarders (argh jim lad). Not that I'll need too because I will just play my Bluegrass collection if you stay too long... :bleh:

Our company for the evening, Pete and Sylivie are Guzzi nutters (well he's nuts anyway) and thus nearly understand motorcycles so they will probably find it all quite entertaining. :2thumbsup

I suggest the Wellington escort could meet at my place and show you the way into town and guide you through the '(dah tah dah) KILLER HIGHWAY'...

So we're riding down saturday, maybe meeting a few guys on the way down and hitting piecock hill on the way of course, unless we take the scenic route from palmy over onto sh2 and over the rima's, might be an idea to give cajun & quasi an intro before tearing over there on the sunday.

So is it meeting at Caltex Rima's at 10am on the sunday for a ride, looking forward to it, hope the weather holds up for both days.

I'm staying down there until friday so i'll be coming along to the Curry night as well.

Quasi will give you a call at some stage to sort some times and discuss a route down, then you can pass it onto cajun, i don't have his number.

Saturday is definitely no good. I'm working on Gini for the Sunday.

Sunday's not looking too bad at the moment.

It's one of those "communication" things. Things are looking a bit better in our household since she hit the second trimester and the morning sickness disappeared overnight. Discussing things like me pissing off for damn near half the weekend with some mates is a lot easier to discuss with her when she doesn't feel like shit all the time...

Or we'd be heading for feilding from vinegar hill, sh52 or something i think. But if we did head over that way we'd proberly head for the paihiatua track to sh2 then over the rima's. Anyone in palmy or that general area that might be keen to meet up and ride down the last stretch with us on saturday afternoon, let me know.

Will do man, pm your cell number an i'll let ya know, depends on how the other two are feeling they're a bit older than me and the parapara's (sp) might be enough excitment for them in one day.

What time do ya think you will be going thru Hunterville ?? I could see you there and escort you thru to Palmy or further depending on the time and the kind if pass I get from the kids .....then again if you do the Parapara's you won't be coming thru Vinegar Hill will ya ?? just let us know your route on friday and I can have a go at meeting ya .....

Cool man, it's looking like the parapara's at this stage, quasi n myself are anti sh1, so i'll try and con the old men into hitting sh2 and going over the rima's. One of us will post a final route on thursday or friday.

Paul: do you have lots of nice flat room for parking bikes? Do I need to bring my little round plastic doofery for the sidestand or is there copious amounts of concrete?

I'm starting to get excited about riding my bike again - it's been about four weeks now cos of this bloody shit weather! Hamish fitted the heated grips to the 1000 last night so I might just have to bring that instead of the 800.......
