Question: If you could live forever, would you and why?Nup.
Because life has been very tiresome lately, and it's looking like it's downhill from here, so why would I want more of that?
Quality before quantity.

Likewise, IF I could live forever at 25 years old I might think about it, at the moment the whole world does not look so attractive as it did when I was 25.

Look at it this way. I want to have kids later on down the line but at the same time I'd think twice about it. I'd think twice cause I'd feel sorry for my kids. Sure every thing looks "cooler" with all the high tech stuff now and things will only be better in that sence but things are seriously going down hill as time passes by if you look at the "bigger picture".
Live for ever? I'd look at it as a curse! The joys of life come from being mortal. If you were imortal, things would get pretty boaring I reckon...

Question: If you could live forever, would you and why?
I think it would be cool to see all the new things that would be invented and discovered.
Like intersteller vehicles, fashion, music... heck what would the tools look like?
But I don't think I would like the part of seeing members of my family pass away generation after generation. :crybaby:
And if I did get to live forever, would my body keep degenerationg or would I stay a certain age?
Besides if you knew me off line, you'd know that I was never one to follow fashion and therefore I'll never die. :bleh:

It depends whether you are talking not aging or immortality.... I'd be happy with not aging....
Firestormer, if it was not aging, surely you could spend as long as you like trying to find what you really want to do.... Eventually you could enjoy it if you want to. Also, you'd probably have a different perspective on time - imagine an ant - short lived creature probably sees time passing slower than we do... The reverse might apply to you

Well Zed I see you're still at it. I thought all this was in the Religous ravings thread but since it has become so boring you have taken it upon yourself to continue your preaching to us. Now what was the question? Ah yes something about living forever and why we want to. One of the interesting thing about this subject is the number of religions that espouse this theme: eternal life. Another thing that you may find interesting is the number of religions that have one God. These are two concepts if I may use such a term are also central to Christian belief. Perhaps if you come to an understanding with yourself (god dwells within you and not the bible) you may one day acheive enlightenment, then you will truly know the truth and not wast your time, my time or anyone elses time with your nonesense.

Well put Skyryder. Zed,why is it you shy away from proper debate in the "Religious Ravings" thread yet still hijack other threads with your rants about your beliefs?
There`s already a well-established thread for this sort of discussion, all you`re doing is pissing people off who want to discuss another topic here, stop running away and we`ll discuss it in the proper place, Spankme accommodated your bushwacking of a thread in that case to give you a place to air your views, is it really fair to then do the same in another thread?
Back to the original subject, I dont know about living forever but being continually reincarnated with a clear recollection of your past lives would be neat, kind of like "Groundhog Day" only you`d hopefully use all that experience to live better and contribute more. Imagine starting out in adult life with all the worldly knowledge of a 40-year-old only without all the hassle and trauma that most of us go through on the way to getting that. I`ve crashed through this life like a bull in a china-shop and another go with the realisation that I have now from the start would be really neat.

My opinion - but doesnt mean its right..
Question 1. Yes. Cos of the bark ripping, leaves russling. just cos we can't
hear it, it doesnt mean it doesnt make a sound....what about if a deaf person is in the forest? or dolphins & sonar?.. had that question in Psych 101 & 102 - dont remember what the answer was.
Question 2. Whoevers name is on the registration & ownership papers owns
it. But while its been paid off the Finance company owns it.
or does it come under possession is 9/10ths of the law! :stoogie:

as much fun as it is too guess at what happens in death and life the universe and everything, if you can place who this quote is attributed too then its a good start to ruling out the flotsam of hypothesis "one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything"
*insert JR here"

Occam's Razor.
Engaging one's brain before applying the razor is a good idea, though, lest one have a nasty sharp-edged philosophical accident.

But I know *I'd* rather have a chance to read The Last Question for the first time, again, than any mere chocolate fish.
Mere chocolate fish?
Now that's blasphemous.
All hail the chocolate fish!
Living forever?
Well that would mean my 1979 XR250 would be getting close to perfection with the little adjustments over the years and people with old european bikes would have finally found out how to get them to stop leaking oil :niceone:

Nothing but a wee drop of lager, tonight.
No, it all makes perfect sense if you've read Asimov's short story, 'The Last Question'.
The full text is available at http://www.aronson.co.il/adin/TheLastQ.htm. A highly recommended read.
[Edit: Of course, if you *haven't* read it, my signature rather spoils the story. Perhaps I'll change it.]
Hey this is a great story. :2thumbsup

Hmm a disaster is a sudden misfortune or a calamity (I looked up the
dikshonery).....so,to whom or what? a calamity to the environment? a misfortune to animal life? .... oh it goes on doesnt it.
If we have a leader of the country, are they a leader?

Here's the next part.
"The Mind lets in the light, then the dark, in interaction; so time is generated. At the end Mind awards victory to the light; time ceases and the Mind is complete."
Don't you love meaningless profundities?
Just the sort of thing a Zen master teaches his disciple.

Lol, there's that hypocritical streak coming out in you again moko!
You're entitled to your opinion though and I won't tell you to keep your mouth shut like you have me.
Where`s the hypocrisy?
And far from telling you to keep your mouth shut I`ve continually asked you to explain the things you say, as have others, which you fail to do. I`m just pointing out that you were given a place to discuss your beliefs, you`ve run away from that yet still keep spouting off in un-related threads.I`ll debate anything you`ve got to say relevent to your beliefs in the right place.

Where`s the hypocrisy?
moko, you said to me: "still hijack other threads with your rants about your beliefs?"
then you proceed to rant about your beliefs by saying "Back to the original subject, I dont know about living forever but being continually reincarnated with a clear recollection of your past lives "
So basically, I cannot make comments about my beliefs on a thread titled "If you could live forever, would you want to, and why?" but you can?
Hence why I call you an hypocrite! :thud:
