cheers mate....now being a suzuki man, i wanted to get your opinion on an RF900?
been looking around and found this (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=96990927)

the flat spot concerns me a little but other than that, do you know much about them? i think i read somewhere they have the same bottom end as a Gixxer1100 and are a pretty strong engine, cowboyz seems to think theyre a decent machine, just wanted your opinion??

oops, excuse the :Offtopic:

Gidday

It looks like a pretty nice bike, getting up in k's though. If possible it would be good to get a mechanic to listen to it and check it out, that could be a bit difficult though.

Mind you, the bigger engines are usually fairly understressed, so it would probably last for quite some time yet I'd imagine.

Both my gixxers have flat spots in the lower gears under acceleration, but they disappear in the higher gears, so it's not so much a concern for me.

My higher K (79K) gixxer has a noisy 2nd gear, which may mean future difficulties, so make sure you listen for a 'whine' from each gear if you test ride it.

I believe they are a good bike, but I've had zero experience with them.

Might be a good idea to start a thread on them, I'm sure I saw a thread on higher K bikes a few days ago and most people had had no problems with some pretty impressive mileage!

Ah, just found it!

My sister had one of these and loved it. She gave it a hiding too, wore out the rear tyres on the sides before the middle every time :Punk:

Flat spots are not usually a prob on larger capacity bikes.
Those RF900 motors are good ones, very under stressed.

I am not sure we have a plan. We usually dont.

Plan for me is to meet at ashhurst mobil at 9.30-10am (thanks to chanceyy!!)... Head east out the main road to danniverkie... hook up with suglite and co. find a back road to waipuk. possibly on to havelock north. See if we can catch up with the hawkes bay crowd on the way somewhere for lunch.

Back home via an undetermined route.

Well I had to go into PN this morning to take care of some work and the weather looked pretty damn good. Looking forward to a great day of riding.

Got home about 9 and Chanceyy showed up soon after to get herself cleaned up and ready for riding. Fantastic cause she thought that she was going to be late but managed to head off down to Mobil at the planned 930.

It seems like such a long time ago but I think there were 9 or 10 there. Yod was waiting on a mate so running a bit late but got away for a gentle stroll up to Dannivirke. Met up with more kbers including suglite who promptly took a liking to the new green machine and made some adjustments to the shocks.

hawkes bay Kbers showed up and after a few ciggys we were off.

The changes suglite made to the bike were evident in the first corner. Bike feels fantastic. Much more stable and heaps eaiser to ride.

Went through to Wimbilton and had a count up of the bikes. 19 out of 22 showed up. That is not good. Waited for a bit and nearly sent out a search party when Yod and co showed up with one of his young mates mirror in his pocket. Minor damage to right hand side of a gsxr400 but the lad got away alright. Wont dewell as most know my intollerance for single bike "accidents" by now.

Feeling a bit like some lunch we had a run through to somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Starts with P and someone will fill in where we were.
Nice lunch. MTRS will note that I did not get lost before lunch!

After lunch we headed up middle road and it all got a bit blurry from there. Turned off up one road then turned around and I assumed we were going one way so went one way but were surposed to go a different way. Managed to lose the group all together. Went on a tiki tour and found a couple with a ZX7R and a buell that had run out of gas. They were syphonning one to the other. They had it sorted so headed back and around till I found HW2.

Cool. Got in contact with 86 and found out that they had been on an adventure and were on HW50 so I blasted down to HW50 turnoff and waited there. Had a big regroup and all was good again. Made it home without getting lost (there was food waiting at home) and all is good.

Another adventure over. Bring on the next one. Next time Hawkes Bay should come down here and we will get you lost around our roads.

It was great to put some more names to faces and meet some more kbers
Good luck to the guys we met at the Dannivirke Mobil on thier way down south to start the Southern cross Ride safely guys

Yeah, there were some tricky patches on that first patch of road. Adds to the challenge of road riding huh...

I almost forgot about the eats at wimbleton pub. Fantastic hospitality from the pub. Much appreciated and held this lad over till lunch.

I might just add however condecending I seem it is only because I am naturally concieted.

Guess it is just good luck that 21 bikes made it to wimbilton in the same condition they left dannivirke.

cool. next time we will have to show you round our local roads. Some not bad ones on the doorstep here. I am always pleased to see a spread out pace where all bikes can find a place in the queue without the feeling someone is being left behind (except when everyone left the 9 behind) I never set my tripmeter for a change so I dont know my milage for the day but it felt great.

The only thing I hate about telling people to ride at their own pace is that very very often it translates to "you are slow and dont have the skill level to keep up with the real men"

what happened to your gps??

what i like about the (few) groups i've been out with so far is that ego's seemed to be non-existent....and thats how it should be imho

i'm at the slower end of the spectrum i reckon (probably only done 20000kms ever on bikes so still plenty of learning to do) but im just happy to be out there with a group (HEEEEEAPS more fun than riding by yourself) and the nice thing is the attitude i see from everyone is about being there and having fun, not "im faster than you ya big pussy" - no one cares who gets there first, just that you're there!

well the lil RZ made it home before it died again .. (no lights) .. I have never been so sore or shattered .. sorry for being stress bunny - but was really worried bike was not gonna make it home & I was so tired after fighting the bike for the first part of the trip, & after stopping really crashed out .. thanks Ant for not letting me fall of the bike when we stopped .. :innocent: cause I am sure we would have just gone over ..

enjoyed the roads after the first pub stop. great open roads .. not much traffic .. sighs that was nice

definately showing my noob status that would have to have been the biggest ride to date .. but glad to hear others are just as shattered .. thought that was my inexperience showing

Betsy is booked in for surgery tomorrow .. checked all the wires, fuses today could not find anything wrong - U4ea & I went for a quick blat to pram, no lights or ypvs all the way down or home ... & she is definately sluggish without it .. since i dunna have a speedo she is tapped out around 6.5 thou revs .. normally easily does 8

anyhow got back home .. parked in front of garage .. turned off .. thought hmmm turned on & presto .. everything works

so my question becomes ... is there a loose connection or a short ... or is the battery discharging while not running .. & taking quite a few ks to charge again .. ?? anyone help with that one ??

Sounds like a loose connection, which may require the removal of the seat and tank to find. Especially if there are no obvious visible signs on first inspection. Is the battery driving the lights, indicators without the engine running now?

Have you got a multimeter? Check battery with bike not running/then running. Take it for a ride and check again and compare results. Then leave bike overnight and check again. This should tell you if the battery is charging or losing power when idle.

86GSXR
26th April 2007, 20:00
If the battery is fine now, it is unlikely (but possible) that it has run flat twice. More likely there is a problem in the connection from the battery to the main battery bus. That should be a relatively simple fix once the break in the system is tracked down. It's just a matter of finding it!

fantastic idea. put it together and they will come......Herbetville would be farely central. With HB crowd coming from Havelock North, Elsthorp, Patangata, Waipuk, Wimbleton etc and us lot Balance, Pahiatua, Pongaroa, Weber, Wimbleton. Maybe all form up at Wimbleton and toodle off to Herbetville. It's been a while since I've been out there though. Apperently it's become a bach haven.

Probably could tee it up with Dutchy at Wimbleton to make sure he's not golfing a few weeks before hand(Ahhh! another excuse for a ride maybe and do Ant's little loop road :). So we know there's emergency gas if needed for those with limited fuel capcity/range.

Hey Crew,
GREAT ride :Punk:
Loved the company, comrade and rides.
Yeah, sure was a little disjointed here and there, but that just added to the fun
I'm slowly getting used to KB rides. The biggest difference is really only the amount of times we stop. I mostly used to ride with smaller groups, and we pretty much only stopped for gas!
I'm not complaining, just adjusting!

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the HB crew and seeing the Manawatu crew again too!

Glad you liked the suspension tweeks Cowboy.

I'm well impressed with Sandras skill level and endurance under stress! Way to go girl, I'm proud of ya :sunny:

Oh yeah, I like to be called Anthony rather than Ant please. (that nick name is like a little forest fire that pops up every few years or so and needs stamping out hehehe ) :done:

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the HB crew and seeing the Manawatu crew again too!

Glad you liked the suspension tweeks Cowboy.

As we did you in a social setting
Perhaps if you made a big improvement, you should have a look at mine too? Sometime.

Hey Crew,
GREAT ride :Punk:
Loved the company, comrade and rides.
Yeah, sure was a little disjointed here and there, but that just added to the fun
I'm slowly getting used to KB rides. The biggest difference is really only the amount of times we stop. I mostly used to ride with smaller groups, and we pretty much only stopped for gas!
I'm not complaining, just adjusting!

I'm well impressed with Sandras skill level and endurance under stress! Way to go girl, I'm proud of ya :sunny:

Wasp27, Thanks for showing what a well ridden cruiser is capable of!

thanks Anthony .. ;)

well it appears the probs with the RZ could be in the ignition switch .. still had power this morning but by time I arrived in Levin it was dying again .. battery is holding a charge even though it was almost flat, but wiggle the key & it will either cut out completely or get stronger, anyhow have it home for the weekend & it will be in on Tues to have the whole ignition system pulled apart ..

recitfier/regulator is working fine & no other breaks in the wiring, all connections are fine as well ...

soooooooooooo hopefully it will be a easy fix on tues
