Hey

I get this error when haxing out (sending) an email

Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following
reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail
relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:

550 relay not permitted

How to fix now?

Thanks

Usually means you have specified a SMTP server outside your providers network.

These days in an effort to combat spam, you are not able to hook into a SMTP server other than the one belonging to the ISP you are connected to.

Also possible your ISPs server is having issues.

Basically the SMTP (outing mail) server you are pointing at will not allow you to pass it mail for delivery. Can be caused by a few things. Sometimes a configuration error but most mail systems do not allow relays to avoid becoming a server that delivers spam.
Pop3 is a protocol for downloading mail from an ISP - which is allowed, your problem is sending mail back to the ISP to get them to deliver it for you, which is actually done by SMTP protocol. Which is why mail is only flowing in not out.

If you are setting up your mail at work, then you are not actually directly connected to your ISP but accessing it from your own network. The ISP is recognising that and not allowing you to submit mail from one network onto their network for delivery - you may have to talk to your systems admins and get your internal mail server to handle outgoing. I do this at work, recieve POP3 from ISP but use my internal mail system to deliver outgoing, as I can provide a username and password that the system knows. All done under your mail account, properties, servers if using Outlook Express.

You will also have this problem if you switch ISPs but keep mail settings that you had with the old one. Once again you are on one network but asking another network to deliver mail.
If this is the case find out from your new ISP what the SMTP settings are for mail - and configure your client to use the new ISP for sending (outgoing mail, smtp)
You can keep downloading (incoming POP3) from your old ISP so those setting dont' change.

If you are experiencing this problem at home, while connected to the ISP that holds your mail account, recheck all configuration they gave you and give them a ring.

Yep but only change the smpt address, leave the pop3 as orcon (assuming you're trying to send from your orcon account).
