View Full Version : Wellington: What time for the Sunday TCSMR?

Grub

Add your vote on the time we should schedule our regular sunday morning rides and let's see where it takes us.

Someboby must have been taking the pee by suggesting a default 0830 start time for the Cruisy Sunday Morning Rides. However, the point was well made by someone else that by 11am all the nanas have got their sunday hats on and are clogging the roads, particularly "The Hill".

Personally I like the idea of a bit of a sleep in and a leisurely ride to brunch late in the morning.

The TCSMR discussion forum is here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=48572

You could go for an early ride and then join the 11am charity ride of course? But I see you have thought of that all ready..

Why do you Socialists have to politely grovel about asking everyone permission to do anything?

Just organise a bloody ride and go for a ride with the people that turn up.

Stop worrying about other people's feelings.

We're freaking motorcyclists. Not an ugly chick bulimic society, desperately scrabbling for self esteem.

Yup Paul, this wasn't actually about this sunday per se but the regular time we should adopt for the autumn/winter

Speak for your bloody self about the self esteem,Buddy!!
Ill be scrabbling with the best of them
All jokes aside, look at the turn out you guys had on sunday & speaking with Sels1 you were only expecting about 6 bikes
As jim says, set the time & do it,they will turn up!!!

Weeeell ... last time I questioned something you posted you threw your toys out of the cot and we haven't seen you live and in person since ... just trying to play nice :)

I did no such thing.

One thing I've learned over the last decade or so is woe betide me should I hold a strong opinion and stick to it. Das ist verboten.

However I must acknowledge that everybody else's strong opinion is a "truth" to be obeyed and implemented.

It doesn't matter what time you set, some bugger will always whinge about it and trying to accommodate one noisy person is likely to put 5 quiet people out. The quiet people are usually nicer to be around anyway.

Dont stress, he's not really human and only exists in 3d during the full moon.. In his defence he is not stingy with coffee and jolly good company when he does actually materialise...

I object to setting time full stop - I believe spontaneous rides in different directions on alternate days should be compulsary...

Thanks mate - I didn't know you liked my company so much...

I'll second that, hubby keeps telling me no matter what I do I won't please everyone, as long as I please him that's all that matters!!!!
So you'll never please everyone, so just please yourself, you're the one putting in the effort to organise it and if it doesn't suit two people, then they don't go. (That's what I've decided for future rides, even though I've vowed not to organise any more, for much the same reason!):innocent:

Just set a hand-wavy medium time and see what happens. Far too much organising going on these days...

But if you're fairly indifferent, then running a poll to find out the time that suits the majority seems like a fairly simple and sensible thing to do to me.
At the end of the day Grub can choose the time and whether or not he takes into account the poll result is up to him. I might even still go even if he chooses a time different from the one that I voted for! :sunny:

Well I hope not! All I've contributed is to just start the thread in the same way TCWNR was done. People will post ideas and others will just turn up at the appointed time (whatever that may be - like 6.30pm was for TCWNR).

Me, organise it? Nope, not a hope. We do just fine on the Wed night ride without it, works for me on a Sunday too.

That's what I was hoping the Sunday ride would be about, nice and casual.

But it would benefit from a regular start time like the Wednesday night ride, so people know they should be ok just to turn up at the same time.

The poll is a good idea to get a general idea for a start time.

I rode for years with Ulysses, always a 1000 start and we'd ride much further than the rides have been going lately so I'd like 1000 thankyou.

We enjoy our bed too much to be getting up early like I do all week to go to work.

Jim2 no matter what that stuff you were saying was and Grub was replying to, are you going to turn up? I'm going to suffer withdrawal for you coz I haven't seen you at a lunch or anything lately either......

.... and Kendogs no cruisy ride would be the same without you would it no matter what time consensus picks?

Hell, I might even be there as I've said above if it aint too early.

You're too nice.

I'm going on the Ambulance run on Sunday which leaves Upper Hutt at 11am, destined for Wellington and a Sausage Sizzle and badges and donations and stuff.

Ambulance run for me this Sunday. I voted 10.00am but any time will do :Punk:

I don't know how many of you are from Hutt and how many are from Wellington.

Being from Wellington, I might be a minority, but for us to be at Rimutex before 10am would be almost impossible, especially for the beginners.

Imagine that you are a beginner, on a 250cc bike and have to be at Rimutex before 10. What time would you need to wake up if you live in the Wellington southern or eastern suburbs?

You joined Ulysses yet seeing you are well old enough now to be a junior member?

Do beginners need more sleep?

But seriously, there is often a gathering of Wellington/Jville area riders at the self service Caltex on old Hutt Road. The ride out to Rimutex from there.

Damn i was up at 0530hrs yesterday to pick up an old trail bike to teach my partner how to ride then i was at the Summit of Rimutakas at 0715hrs aboslutely gorgeous up there and little or no traffic, then was up there again at 0850hrs for ride number 2 with Riffer.

Good on ya Grub for setting this poll up, once the time is determined then we will all know that on each sunday their is a group ride at ????hrs. My suggestion would be that there is more riding time than sitting and eating time.

James Deuce
26th April 2007, 15:44
Hurry up and post the time so I can plan my rides around it.

So is it Rimutex at 1000 then what, ride up the hill and back down to The Hood (Upper Hutt) to join the ambulance ride or are we going to give that ride a miss?

You know I'm just trying to get my post count over 4,000 eh!

If the ambulance ride is at 11am, might it be better to go up the hill after that? Or should people just make their own minds up? Couple be a split decision, which would suit a couple of my schizo patients!

Grub
28th April 2007, 07:19
Well, I was sure that 11am would be the preferred time so it's great to see a clear consensus .... 10am it is.

I've updated the TCSMR announcement and thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=48572) with 10am.

I'm intending doing the Ambulance run this weekend so will probably give the cruisy a miss. I need to scrub the new rubber so will probably go out early, have a bit of a play and then shoot over to the meet at 11.00.
I was hoping to scrub the rubber today but looking out at the rain I may leave it until later.
