I just about got taken on by a Nissan Largo reg# BWG542 around 6pm, Swanson RD in west aucks..

Going along (luckily straight) this van came flying up my right literally less then 30cm away (from me, not the widest point on the bike), then pulled a handbrakie of sorts into a left hand road just down the road abit. Initially I was going to carry on but i followed and got the reg#, went down the rd, turned around and ended up behind him again turning towards my street (now he was driving real slow).

How do I go about reporting this? head down to the police station tomoro or is there a number I can ring?

Isnt it *555 from your mobile?? That the number I always use to see when riding along the motorway, plus I think its what my bro has on speed dial (He's a truckkie, sees lots of crazy shit)

Go to the police website (http://www.police.govt.nz/service/road/roadwatch.html) and use the Report a Dangerous Driver form. If the driver gets a certain number of these (3 or 4?) the coppers pay 'em a visit, as I understand things. You can also go to the local station and lay charges but understand it's going to be your word against theirs unless you have witnesses or video footage...

Yep, go report that scum to the boys (and girls) in blue. Sounds like they deserve a good spanking. Good job mate.

My mum and a friend were witnesses in a thing against this idiot driver recently. They were passed dangerously then saw him do other stupid things so the passenger did the *555 thing. So did another woman on the same stretch of road.
He tried defending himself and apparently was 'a real arsehole' but got convicted, 6 months disqualification and $600 fine.

The police were really pleased and kept passing 'we're going to nail the bastard!' looks while they were giving evidence :)

Do it :)

Now that is more like it! (more like what really happens as opposed to the half heard stories on here...)

For karma reasons i'd say don't do it as it may just happen to you when your broke on 80 demerits and just about to lose your job.

I wouldn't put too much faith in *555.

A few weeks ago I was driving behind a weaving car on the South-Western motorway at around 4am. The car started drifting towards the median barrier, crashed into it, and continued driving. Then the guy slowed down and stopped in the middle of the off-ramp before he carried on.

I doubled back from the next exit and found where the guy had parked his car. He was lurching around on the pavement - pissed as a fart. So I gave the location and rego details to *555 and hung around at a discrete distance to wait for the police.

I waited 45 minutes for the cops to show, but nobody came past. So I gave up waiting and left.

Maybe it was just a busy night. I really don't know.

That is really unusual Forest. They take *555 calls, especially ones about drunks in cars, *very* seriously. They'll often have several cars, not just one, hone in on where the offender is. You did all the stuff they needed too with rego, location and maintaining observation.

There must have been other stuff going on. 2-4am is when all the baddies are out and about doing bad stuff. Maybe th fact that he'd parked it up meant that they didn't have to worry about them being an immediate danger to others?

Theyy wouldn't have been at all upset if you had rung them back and said that you were still observing this guy, did they want you to wait or not. They would have told you what was happening. Not many people hang around, it would have made a difference

Let them know you are happy to stay on the phone til the cop arrives and can give them a running commentary... calltaker probably thought you buggered off when you hung up...as is often the way...

I saw a guy driving and drinking a beer so called the cops.

To be honest the lady who answered asked all this crazy questions, was he speeding.........lady he is driving ands he has what looks like a big bottle of booze in his mouth..........I really felt that I should not have bothered.

Anyway, I think the guy got picked up as his car was up for sale soon after.

Get bent, we all fuck up, and do things that are a bit dodgy. "Deserve it",pffft eat shit. It's the fucking up over and over again that makes you deserve it... I could be wrong though, what did you do to get 80 demerit points in one hit Renegade?

I'm going to have to weigh in on this one as well and say that i agree with imdying... if you get demerits you are doing something stupid and got caught.

Just for a change, lets stop looking at demerits as a badge of honour and start looking at them for what they really are .. proof that you were riding like an idiot and got caught.

We all do stupid shit and i'd be lieing if i said that i didn't as well .. but i dont have any points on my license, maybe that makes me lucky ?? or maybe it means that i don't do stupid shit very often.

But enough of that, back on topic, I have used both the *555 and the on-line form a couple of times, the boys and girls in blue have always followed up and on a couple of occasions even rung me to tell me that they got the bastard i reported.

I say, do everything you can to get bad drivers and riders off the road, it makes it a safer place for the rest of us.

Rant over.

Yep I did the online form, as said before if I layed a charge it's just me vs them.

Cheers for the advice.

trying to lay charges is a waste of time ... i doubt the cops would have even bothered ... better to use the form or *555 .. if they get enough reports about the same person ... well .. a visit from your local cop does wonders .. lol

also if im broke on 80 demerits and about to lose my job....id say i feckin deserve it!!!!you see that would mean i spend all my money on booze/drugs, get caught speeding and going to lose my job cause i was so wasted that i didnt turn up for work....and you want to let this type of person get away with it?

and as for karma, it could mean that he goes down the road around the next corner and runs you down as he goes through the next red light, but hey you wanted to let karma deal with it instead of the cops......
