Coming home from work a short while ago, riding along Princes St in Otahuhu heading for the motorway.

Now those that know Princes St, know that it is a single wide lane between Church St and the lights before the motorway bridge.

So I'm in the correct position, you know, riding where the right side wheels of a car would be, and I noted in my left mirror a car, sitting quite close but not uncomfortably close.

I carried on, and checked my mirror again, I could only see his right hand headlight. Didn't think too much of it.

A few seconds later, I couldn't see his headlights at all, so quickly whipped my head round to the left, and the bastard was foot flat undertaking me, almost scraping parked cars and heading straight for my left leg.

I had nothing coming from ahead, so ducked right VERY quickly with an extra dollop of throttle for added measure.

Dickhead went past so close I felt my pants rustle with the wind.

I saw red.

Pulled on a bit more throttle, came up along side, flipped my visor up and let loose a torrent of choice words that I am sure my mother will haunt me for in my dreams for a week.

What response did I get? He looked out the corner of his eye, and wound his window up!

So we get to the lights, and they're red.

I weighed up my options, and several past KB threads went through my mind on retribution.

I opted for pulling up 6 inches from his door, leaning over to his window so my visor tapped it, read him his parentage, asked him if his intention was to kill me, and suggested he was reminiscent of a vulgar term for the opposite sexes genitalia.

He looked away, clearly uncomfortable, and when the light went green, stomped the pedal in his Honda Civic. I pedalled a bit quicker, and showed him using fingers how many times he has tried to kill me so far.

Lesson learned?

1) Believe it - everyone out there is trying to kill you.
2) Use your mirrors, they're not just decorations.
3) Life saver (head) check SAVE LIVES!

Be bloody safe out there folks.

Believe me, the thought went through my mind, but there was no need to go lower than his level.

I always find talking a situation through gets a result - putting the shits up him will hopefully help him correct the errors of his ways.

A mate found out, some time ago (when he was being pillioned down Queen St), that the helmet is quite useful in situations like this.
Off with said helmet and grasped by the chincup; quick flick and "hey-presto" a broken windscreen.

Good grief glad you are ok mate.

I had a similar "Brown pants" moment today heading along Monument Rd before I got to the 4 way intersection and the top of the hill heading towards Clevedon. Came around an easyish corner just below 100 and there was a ute wholly in my lane heading straight for me. We both swerved and didn't end up too close but scared the crap out of me (no not quite literally) Had a dirt bike in the back too stupid bugger

Thank gosh for life saving head checks! Good on ya for not turning into an impromptu hood ornament

As for that cager, he full well knew exactly what he was doing - unless he was blind and not seeing you. Yeah, right. :angry2: And good to see that you gave him a civilised talking to about the rights of two wheeled users of the road also.

And remember, you're not being paranoid enough if you think they are out to get you... they are all out to get you!

Stay safe and avoid being a red shirt!

"must spread bling around to other bling whores before giving it to bling supplicant"

I would have cut the engine, take out my keys, scratch his car as I glide past, put my keys back in and fired 'er up and taken off with a 1 fingered salute.

But that's just me.

Glad you're okay man.

S'funny now I am calm enough to reflect... he was a nerdy looking white guy, well presented around the early 40's I guess... with the red mist finally lifted, I guess I did detect a little bit of fear in his eyes...

...thank god for that, hate to think I had wasted my time... :devil2:

 I actually said something useful you could remember!? I thought I was muttering about "you have to bling your bike out" and "I think your arse looks big in that Cordura..."

That drumming was actually your chin strap undone and flicking around in the wind as you rode...

And yes, grasshopper - you have done well. Don't get cocky! Otherwise, you too, can be in line for an impromptu Crusty Demon tryout! :o :innocent:

Ah yes! the world is full of morons with 4 wheels that think it is their god given right to own the whole f***ng road. No doubt this road warrior got his licence from his morning cereal box!
I agree with Big Dan the surgical removal of the wing mirror would seem to be a small price to pay for nearly wiping out a law abiding rider. After all if he doesn't use the bloody thing he shouldn't miss it a whole lot!!!!!!

And should you one day raise yourself to the level of rider of the big and old then you won't have the same trouble again as the twat in the civc would not have enough room or power to pass the mighty beast of thunder!!!!!!!!
