Well.
A bonus day...
Five kids to be entertained. Already gone for a ride up the takas, (bull's gone up twice already) so what to do?
bull's got his hands on an old trail bike.
So half an hour at chez riffer to ensure its safe and running properly, and off to Alexander Road car park (where they used to do the buckets). Take picnic lunch, and the kids pushbikes too.
Set up some cones, and its basic handling skills time for Aroha and Gini. Actually, Gini's got her 6L aready but she hasn't ridden for a number of years so needed a refresher.
As you can see in the pictures, the ladies did great!
We should do this more often.
The little feller on the bike with me is Nicholas. He's my youngest, he's twenty-six months old, and he's been on a bike since he was nine months old. He's absolutely fearless. He's the one in my profile pic.
What a great time. Thanks for the idea bull!

How did i miss this thread - cheers for the great day Simon, the girls had a ride on the bikes and my middle child Denzel(6yr) learnt to ride his pushbike.
30 min at Chez Riffer? felt like a frickin eternity pushing you along on the bike trying to crash start it. LEast we know now that it needs heaps of petrol as the reserve is f@#cked.
Was really impressed with how quickly Aroha picked up the skills required, you make a decent instructor buddy. Especially enjoyed the part where you had to do the running around yelling instructions - justice.
Aroha has allready been thinking about commuting to work on a bike, she reckons shell leave at the same time as she would catch the train as there is hardly any traffic - no traffic???? sounds boring. Lanesplitting to work is the favourite part of my working week.
Definitely have to do it again, how about this weekend on Sunday? ill organise the trailbike again and well get there with picnic and the kids again. Will suss out a time.
Looks like a good time .. always a good thing to help others learn to ride and appreciate what we love.

Good lord, where are the helmets, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!
Looks like good fun, kids love bikes more than we could ever know
I've tried everything to get Missfinn to take up riding but she won't have a bar of it. I even bought her a Street Magic to learn on - didn't work. The MV & Honda are too uncomfortable so I borrowed an ST1300 for the day thinking that'll sort her out, but to no avail. In her words "I just don't see the point".
It's a hard road finding the perfect woman.

Did she ride bicycles as a kid? I've read that if you don't learn by about 5, you'll find it very hard to ride motorcycles.

Point one....
Calling Vicki 'The Wife' would result in me spending the rest of the day removing the motorcycle from a fundemental orifice....
Point two
Sigh - Me teaching Vicki to ride? Um.... yeah...

Take her to Waiheke for the day and rent her a scooter, she will have so much fun she will be begging to learn.

Nah, I didn't learn to ride a bike till I was (mumble) and I can ride a motorbike. Some of the skills are definitely easier if you've had experience riding a pushie, but the biggest thing is motivation.
I second Mack's idea of going to Waiheke and renting scoots. In January the SV Rider and I were going to Waiheke and I insisted we take the Volty instead of catching those dusty old buses everywhere. What a revelation! We discovered a whole new Waiheke that we never knew existed! Just one tip: stick to the cafes and avoid the vinyards
