Do a registry scan and delete the bits and pieces (Make a backup before doing so...)

I would reinstall the original program, then uninstall it correctly by using the add/remove program function in control panel.
Unless that is what you tried in the first place of course.

Not sure what version OS u are using ? nor the antivirus proggy you are trying to get rid of, but.. if u used the correct Uninstall Process from within Control Panel, you will need to reboot after u uninstal it, as parts load into memory on boot up.. so reboot then try loading new proggy..
Secondly if not unisntalled correctly then the advice earlier will help, reinstall it to its original locations, reboot it all... then use correct uninstall.
Thirdly, if all else fails, use REGEDIT to scan the registry for anything with the name of the program and delete it, BUT BE WARNED this is highly dangerous unless u know what u are doing...
The problem of not using the correct unstal process is that bits that are written into the Startup routine, and into Registry never get cleaned out properly...... anyway.. good luck....

Symantec/norton antivirus can be a complete beyatch to remove. If you've got the disks, try reinstalling it then removing. Failing that, there's a norton removal tool on the Symantec website.
