Angry calls for Richard Brunstrom, the self-appointed “Traffic Taliban” to resign were ringing as the North Wales Chief Constable used photos of a headless biker to back his anti-speeding campaign – without the permission of his family.

One of the images – which were revealed at a presentation to journalists and road safety workers - showed the headless torso imbedded in a car and another showed the head, which landed 50 metres away, still in the helmet with the eyes open.

The images will not be shown to the public.

Paul Smith, of pressure group Safe Speed, branded Mr Brunstrom a “buffoon” and demanded his resignation. And Arthur Roberts of People for Proper Policing, said “This is typical of his gung-ho attitude.”

The AA said “Research has shown that these type of pictures do not have much effect.” Human rights lawyers called the police’s actions “callous” and could be in breach of the family’s right to privacy.

The victim’s constituency MP, Bob Wareing, said last night: “It’s absolutely deplorable that North Wales police should use the body of a dead man in this way, without asking the family. Whether the accident was his fault or not is beside the point. It’s unethical and I will be protesting to the North Wales police.”

Brunstrom was defiant, saying: “We did it to serve a purpose. The images are there to make an impact.”

This sort of thing is totally disgusting especially without the consent of the family..I liken it to the two childrens bodies which were retreived from the ocean (near Waiheke isle). Its very bad taste even if the bodies are covered in a tarpolin...

RIP

First thought was.......'The Young Ones' when Viv got his head knocked off soon after he stuck it out the train window...and when he finally caught up with it, proceeded to kick it along the tracks....
