View Full Version : McJim's new ride

Here are some pics of the new bike that's in my garage. Have had a couple of very short rides on it but need to sort some shit out before I give it a good thrashing over the hills (need to learn how to ride it for a start!).

The sound is awesome - bear in mind I'm still a rank noobie with only about 20,000km and one year's riding experience. That which is mediocre for some of you is pretty good by my standards.

It's everything I want at the moment - i.e. basically like the VTR250 but with full fairing and a bit more oomph (but not too much!).

That's hot, mate :D I bet the sound is awesome, there's a Pantah that goes past work quite often and you can hear it coming from miles away, even though it's not that loud. Isn't that the same model (except wasn't it 900cc?) that Hunter S Thompson wrote that article about?

Good luck with it. Hope all the Ducati reliability problems propaganda is just that. :D

The happy shopper handlebars on the VTR were killing my back (I was never designed to sit upright being an ex racing cyclist) the Ducati is soooooo comfortable!

The torque is really scary at first and the hydraulic clutch feels..well..different to the cable clutch.

At pace it handles much better then the VTR since the suspension is a bit stiffer and the USD forks make the front end feel mega positive - the gearing is very very tall....but the sound.....the sound is just gorgeous.

At slow speed it feels heavy compared to the VTR which is understandable since it IS heavier than the VTR.

I am not disappointed.

Thats a beautiful looking bike bro.

It's only a 600 so there isn't gonna be the opportunity to get much more out of it. I'll be better spending my time upgrading my riding ability than blowing money on blinging the bike!

You'd hate it - it's tiny and only 53hp.

It just looks and sounds good - not a real sportsbike.

I've thought about the seating position too, a sports bike could feel more "natural" for me. Of course really being a triathlete.... what I need is a motorbike with aerobars attached! :gob:

Feck'n typical - took ages for him to get this post up 'cause he was out riding it!

I can vouch for the delectable delight it inspires ... mmm ... red ... my fave colour! Very loud too! I think he'll have to start wearing ear plugs to preserve the ol'hearing methinks!

Anyhows, congrats on the new addiction and thanks for letting me sit on it for a long while! :msn-wink: mmmm ... have fun getting the twist of the wrist right on it! :woohoo:

Congrats on the new bike! Very nice. Welcome to the 'red bike club'. Although I did notice the VTR looked a bit red in the last photo I saw of it.

I don't normally drag old threads out of the cupboard but there is a reason. A fella at work is coming round to have a look at the bike with a view to buying it. If he doesn't buy it I'll put it on trademe. Hopefully it will get me enough money for a ticket to Scotland. :2thumbsup:

Yeah well, I've only got one mum and one dad and it's not really fair to keep the grandkids 17,000 km away from them. Mum's too ill to travel out here but it's blardy difficult getting a family of 4 to the UK on a New Zealand wage I can tell you.
