Akatarawa road
Paikakariki hill - short but fun.
Around lake Ferry over the Takas.
umm....
just get a different bike and do all those ones you have already done, again. It'll feel like new again.

Why did you name yourself after a rapist? Hmm....

Try around the lake to Martinbough- Gladstone -Masterton-Carterton and back to Martinbough, plenty on back roads to cruise and explore.

the Moonshine Hill road is quite good too - tighter than most, but I think less tight than the Akatarawas (which I haven't done yet on a bike - it's on my todo list).
There's also some little obscure roads which are a bit more suburban but quite fun anyway:
Sweetacres drive and others along the top of the Western Hutt Hills (you can get right along from Belmont to Korokoro)
Another (short) one is I think the Old Porirua Rd up to Khandallah from the bottom of the Ngaio Gorge (winds up the right side of the valley above the main gorge road)
You probably know the back road from Johnsonville to Tawa, but the low speed limits are encroaching from the ends of that these days.

I'm in Upper Hutt and often go akatarawa - paekak - Moonshine curcuit.
I bit tighter than most would like tho...
Takas never fails to amuse!
maybe explore whitemans valley?
Wainui coast road?
Shelly bay/mount vic area - lotsa hazards so not to fast!
My fave is over the takas then right at featherston around west side of lake wairarapa, maybe stop at lake ferry for a pint/lunch then explore up to ngawi or check out the pinnicles. back to marty for a coffee and then home.
Gladstone area is great, any roads around there. Admiral hill my fave - again tight!
Just explore and have fun!
Good luck and safe riding.

ohhh...moonshines a bit nasty. and the akatarawas. unless your comfortable trying to go for it with less than one lane in most places...not much chance to get out of first.
another half decent one is Oharu (spelling...???) valley, behind johnsonville, going up to makara/karoiri.
unfortunatly this is a narrow little bast' like the top two. My stomping ground is Paekakariki Hill....look for the darkies :D I love that place. If you pick your times right, you shouldn't hit too much traffic...Stay left, and stay safe though.
Doesn't matter where you ride so long as your on a bike tho right??

East of Upper Hutt. There are IIRC 3 roads to get over there; the easiest to find is to head for the Takas, then turn right by the buildings on the straight just before the Te Marua hill.
There's also one somewhere round the Maidstone industrial area, and behind Pinehaven/Silverstream.

There's 4... another one can be found East of the Rimutaka traffic lights on SH2.

I'd forgotten about that one. Obviously time to go exploring again ...
Richard
There is also for a slightly longer ride the Wellington/Mid find a back road/go to Palmerston for brunch ... but you need a map for that one .. also jsut januting up the line to places like Levin.

Masterton, Alfredton, Pongaroa, Waipukurau.
Masterton, Alfredton, Ekatahuna, Mangamaire, Palmerston Nth, Shannon, Levin, Paekak Hill, home.
Wanganui, Paraparas, Taumaranui, Taupo, Home (you might have to get up early for that one)
Napier via SH2 and SH50, Taupo via Napier-Taupo Highway, Desert Rd Hom. Bit of a day trip.
Masterton, Alfredton, Ekatahuna, Mangamaire, Palmerston Nth, Shannon, Levin, Paekak Hill, home.
Wanganui, Paraparas, Taumaranui, Taupo, Home (you might have to get up early for that one)
If you like the longer rides, there's lots of variations available here:
Alfredton, Pahiatua
Magamaire, Balance
Over the saddle and back over the track
Parapara's, Tokaanu (for a hot pool)
Parapara's, Fields Track
And there's heaps in Rangitikei,
Wanganui, Fordell, Hunterville
Vinegar Hill
Mangaweka, Kimbolton
Utiku, Kimbolton
Kimbolton, Apiti, Pohongina Valley.....and on, and on, and on.
The good rides around Wellington are generally too short or too narrow (have to watch the big 4WD's)

And there's the always stunning City South Coast ride. It's not fast, but it's fun.
And there are several variations on the "Round The Block" circuit (Away via Wairarapa home via Manawatu/Horowhenua or vice versa) with a goodly selection of mid-point cafes.
And one could always do a Hitcher family favourite -- coffee in Taihape. Again there are choices for to and from.

Or I'd take the Silverstream turn from SH2, towards Pinehaven then take left up to Blue Mountains/Whitemans Valley - bit twisty but still fun!
There is also the option of buying a map ... or going to the top of the hill and asking the guys with bikes up there...

Surely you jest?
Would you be recommending SH1 for a good ride? :dodge:

Yeah, but he had, like, ten thousand men or something like that. It's always more fun with friends.

Ummm 'safe' Jay? Wasn't that you passing me on the back wheel of Stew's bike? Nice tank-slapper going into that right-left though :)

can do the big loop .. (which is on my agenda) , taka's masterton back roads to paihutia, paihutia track ,back roads to shannon then the boring flit to piecock hill again & where ever ..
I will be doing it from shannon soon  as soon as i can twist a few arms to come with me
even tempted to go aka's

Nasty & The Grub did that one ... sort of by accident but *highly* recommended
Palmerston (via whatever route you fancy), Feilding, Cheltenham, Kimbolton, Mangarimu, Pemberton, Rangiwahia, Karewarewa (do *not* take the "Managaweka 6km", instead take the "Taihape Alternative Route 30km"), Upper Kawhatau, SH1 (vomit), Utiku, Taihape.
The cafe behind the old Bank is the best in town with a yard out back with plenty of room for your gear. Park in behind the bank and go in thru the trellis gate.
Surely you jest?

SH2 is good too :) you know what I meant - should maybe have replaced "twisty" with "slow" as you'd never get done for speeding on that Blue Mountains road!

Or take the 'short cut'...Takas - Martinborough - Gladstone - Whangaehu - Alfredton - Weber - Wimbleton - Waipukurau - Waipawa - Tikokino - Omahu - Gentle Annie - Taihape. That way, the only boring bit is between Waipk & Waipawa. Oh, and over the Takas of course:innocent:

I really liked going over the Saddle road which was great and you can stop and look at the windmills half way through ... that is instead of Pahiatua track .. nice and twisty too.

I love that road though
Me too and me, Sparky Bills, RG100 (of the KBers I know) have to do it every day - twice :)
