Intercoms: What's best??

I purchased one of those Oxford brand intercoms, but have found that I get heaps of wind noise>
What brands are out there that have good suppression. A mate has suggested the Baher unit, some feedback would be welcome on current users!

Good timing, just posted this in the "What Helmet is Best" thread

Nasty & I have Nolan N102's with the Basic Comms kit and Bluetooth (those are the controls you see over the left ear in the photo (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=60150&d=1178138143)). Here you see it being charged up in my office as we speak :)

With the Basic Comms Kit, you can plug in helmet-helmet comms for a pillion, plus you can set up a cellphone and an iPod together. The iPod will mute when the phone is answered

This helmet is quiet, has anti-lift, has chin wind guard and the amazing pinlock anti-fog visor system as standard.

Nasty and I ride a lot together so we have the Bluetooth kits for bike-bike comms as well as for our phones. The bike to bike comms distance is about 5-6 car lengths which we very seldom exceed when touring and the quality of the ride is increased a thousand fold as we explore new places and see new things. I can't imagine ever doing without it now. The quality is excellent, no wind noise disturbance, no distortion, perfect clarity out to the full range of the bluetooth. The whole package is designed as an integrated setup which is why I think it works so well.

Cost is very very reasonable for a lift-up helmet (you have to love the convenience of that!)
- Helmet $599 (KB special price $535)
- Basic Kit $87 ish
- Bluetooth $385 ish

So for you and pillion, just helmet and basic kit for $622 is a mega-value deal. The Baehr unit will set you back a couple of thousand bucks just for the one bike. If she decided to get one of her own, you'd need another Baehr and that's another 2 grand.

I have a Pinfolds Mototalkie and its fantastic. It has input for mobile phone, Mp3 (although I have found the MP3 to be a bit quiet), Pillion to Pillion, Bike to Bike and other cool features like 50% volume reduction in Music (MP3) when your voice is detected in the mike. The unit including all the wires and mikes/helmet earpieces etc was $300! I have it installed under my ZX9R's passenger seat with wires hanging out to plug into. When I don't need it I just tuck it back under the seat. Also, there is no on/off switch, it automatically turns on when you plug your helmet into it....simple and effective. If you are thinking of buying a cost effective unit, you can't look past this unit. Mike is the guy to contact, he is very helpful and more than willing to help with any issues you have. Has anyone used intercom/inter Bike Coms from these guys P.H.S.Ltd Bike Comms (http://www.amalgamate2000.com/sales/motorcycle__communications.htm) ($135 for Rider To Pillion, $140 Bike to bike & $300 for Rider pillon/MP3/cellpdone/Bike to bike)? Seen the ad in "Kiwi Rider". I'm curious as I'm a cheap arse broke dude that can't afford $622 each and like the $340 helmets we already have.

Thanks biggles08, sounds like just the job, my preference is for a VOX operated unit but they are just so blasted expensive, I think Ill have settle on one of these Pinfolds.....

My Dad has a Baer system that is Vox operated (cost him around $1000 a few years back i think) but it doesn't in real terms seem to be any better really. With the mototalkie it is on all the time so you don't get the delay at the start when someone starts to talk and miss the first part of the sentence.

My dad and I have just organized bike to bike using walkie talkies and Dad asked the baer people about getting a cable for it and it was going to cost $96!!! I told him to call mike and he made one up for him (even though it wasn't his system) for $30! We now can chat between our bikes when we head down to the Brass Monkey this week :Punk:. I highly recommend the system...oh and by the way, if you want to try it before you buy it (he told me at least) you can ride down with a mate to Rotorua and he will give you a system to bugger off with for a couple of hours to have a go with it....didn't do it but if you are concerned about it theres that option for you

What I have found is that the best intercom system also depends on the type of bike that you are riding .. i found real differences with the Nolan depending on waht I am riding .. the cruiser (virago) or the sports touer (cbr)!!

I often talk on the phone while riding at around 100kph and I have a Micron can on my ZX9R (which wouldn't be described as quiet) and apparently it sounds like I'm sitting in a car?!?! There is no real background noise to speak of. It is really important that you set the headphones up right next to your ears in the helmet otherwise you may struggle to hear properly. This is just done by trial and error.
