The LTSA is replacing the testing station gear to meet the same standard as the roadside gear, so it will be interestign to see what kind of BS Tony Friedlander comes up with to excuse the trucking industry and the LTSA from being criminally incompetent.

You got it in one Hitcher - they don't get caught cos they all let each other know where the cops are at. I got this straight from the horses mouth when I was working in a gas station years ago. When I asked a local cop about speeding trucks, he said they were a myth.....bloody fool.

Actually shag, they are meant to be pinged for 95, i.e. they only get 5km leeway as opposed to bikes/cars with 10 km leeway.

Perhaps Spud can enlighten me otherwise but the last time I got pulled up I was driving with the bike on the trailer at 4.30am down Mana Esplanade (was when I was hauling the WR to Opoutama) and the three trucks that were ahead of me at Paremata roundabout disappeared into the distance heading North.
See this thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=55943#post55943
The cop pulled me up about Shell Mana and says I was doing 70 in the 50. Well hell then the trucks would have been doing 80 - all big B Trains as I saw them side on as I approached the roundabout. He never touched the trucks. I asked him about the trucks but he said something like "big rigs don't go that fast here". I could see it was no point arguing, shut my mouth and got no ticket.
Seems to me though the trucks are invisible to the cops - follow them and you get pulled up.

But yeah, it seems that they can speed with impunity, doesn't it?
Reminds me of the time I was driving between Waiotapu and Rotorua, and ahead of me I saw a Kenworth rig with a full load of logs, pull out and pass everything on 10-Mile Hill. Now that's grunt...

Heaps of the so called professional drivers are nothing more than outright road criminals (not all). Taxi drivers, courier drivers, truckies, security guards, they all seem to think at times that they own the road and are above the law. As far as I'm concerned they should receive the firmest enforcement of all because they are SUPPOSED to be professional drivers. Security guards are some of the worst, one was found recently doing 140 in a 50 because he was responding to an alarm activation that was 45 minutes old - f**ken halfwit!! :ar15: :ar15:

Now here is the second part to this equation or is it the answer.
The LTSA are considering reducing the five and half hour driving time before having to take a half hour break down to five hours. This is to reduce driver fatigue. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure why the speed limit for trucks has been upped 10k's. Maths are not my forte but if anyone wants to do some sums on this I'll wager a bottle of my favourite ale for myself that the 10k increase makes up for the half hour reduction in drive time.

Probably more for the Truckies in Auckland who don't get to do 90Km per hour but can spend 5 hours just crossing town.

Pulled out to pass a truck in the rain near Rotorua and promptly got blinded by the spray, not much fun.
I've always found truck drivers to be the only other group of road users to show me a bit of courtesy on the road, waving me through or pulling over when they have room, don't get to many car drivers doing that.

I used to have lighting on the fairing above the cab that had a switch by the center console that Id flick twice, only the truck oncomming would see that.
As for the speed limit being raised, the truckie cant win now can he. At 80 or 90kph you'd get shit throughen at ya for driving so slow by inpatiant drivers, now ya get shit cos you are aloud to drive faster

Guys I travel myself at the 90-95 mark in a truck and constantly get passed by other trucks doing 110and as for the police not pulling up trucks is a load of codswallop how many car/mcycle riders have there own cops to deal with(not talking bout the bumble bees), we in the trucking fraternity have what we call mermaids(C***s With Scales)that pull us over anywhere anytime of the day/night.{really called C.V.I.U= Commercial vehicle investigation unit}
And if you break the law you bloody well deserve a ticket,
Been to 5 truck smashes this year 2 of them Hazardous substances, and every time i spoke to the driver it was the same thing..... geez bro i think i was going too fast(morons).
So if you see me on the road stay back look for me in my mirror then i can see you.But one thing! we can actually get into trouble for waving cars on, ask spud he`ll tell ya.

trucks have been able to do 90kph for ages all they have done is bring truck and trailers into line with trucks, semis, and B-trains. you wanna do this for a living and try sittin on 80kph it aint easy also the tolerance for all trucks went down to 5kph so now youll only get away with 95kph. also technollogy has come along way in the heavy transport arena since that 80kph limit was set.
however i will agree with you about bike speed limits. i find it difficult to sitt on 100-110 on my bike to do it i spend more time looking at the speedo than i care to. 130-140 would suit me fine

You hate drivers getting in the way of bikes? Being a cyclist is the worst. Supposedly you have equal rights to everyone on the road. Bull. We constantly have to give way to every single car, truck, van, etc. Just the other day, I had to bike down a damned busy road, and cars were shoving me into the gutter, so I had to go onto the footpath for fears of being knocked over, then bam, I go straight into the back of a People mover backing out a driveway. It was backing out pretty fast, if it had been backing out casualy like most cars, I would've avoided it. In the end, I had to pay $500 cause of a dent I put in the car with my head, and I was unable to go on my motorbike cause I had a buggered up knee.
I got a Day off school the day after though.

well I dont no what its like up your way but in Chch at what was a normal intersection ie: one lane for turning right and for going straight and another for turning left and going straight........ the idiot roading engineeres have deleted one of the lanes and made it 1/2 as wide (all cars use this lane) and added a pushbike lane which is 1.5m wide.
This means if a car wants to turn and has to wait to give way then all other traffic is held up to the point were only one car gets through the intersection.
This is all over the city now and the roads have been painted red for the silly bikes not good on the motorbike in the wet.
And who pays for all this????

I would imagine a lot of cyclists are ratepayers and own other vehicles and so contribute to road upkeep but aren't lazy fucks like most car drivers and prefer not to add to even more traffic congestion.
As a law abiding cyclist when I used to ride around town I was continually put in serious danger because of the ignorance of the car driving public.

good on the people getting out into the open a having a push bike ride. but for goodness sake the rules clearly state not to ride two abreast!!! this applys to state h'ways as well as back roads. i live in an area with a very strong push bike club and see them regularly out and about, but just because they wear bright clothing dosent mean your going to be seen!!
i have seen people riding (wearing full gears) push bikes on SH3 between Hams and te awamutu (which is a very busy road and has a high percentage of heavy traffic) two abreast! you would think that these peiople would have a lot more common sense than others!! people who get run over in this manner do not have my sympothy!

Yeah, what's happened here? go out on a weekend, particualy north in Auckland and you see expensive SUVs parked up and bunches of expensive bikes in colourful lycra all over the place - seems like they have taken their SUV arrogance and applied it to push bikes. You see cars crawling along the Scenic Drive stuck behind these arrogant sods who seem to think they can ride 2 or 3 abreast, yabbering away about the share market and property values while riding - they better watch out...there's a Pajero with a broken crank and pedal still stuck in it's grill that cruises those roads.
