I'd like to thank KB for helping me to NOT buy a bike.
Tonight I test-rode an XT400, a cool little dual-purpose bike.
It was very interesting working through the things listed in the Buying A New Bike (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=26572) sticky thread, and also the things brought up in the thread where I asked "Should I buy this bike? (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=41867)"
I tested it at 100kph and tried pushing 5th gear to see how it was, and it was stuffed, so I'm not going to buy it. (actually I still like the bike so I will find out how much a gearbox repair could be)
But I would never have thought to test for that particular thing if I hadn't gotten advice from Ixion and also from other people.

So THANKS Kiwibikers! You saved me some dosh and made me actually aware of what the heck I was doing when I tested an old bike.
Thanks.

Gah, that's a shame the gearbox isn't up to snuff. Cool looking bike, that -- a man can never have enough singles! You sold your other one, silly lad.

How exactly was it 'stuffed' ...you shoulda binned it and blamed it on gearbox failure
