Round 3 TTR Whangarei

Well after getting back into dirt biking earlier this year, I am entering my first Enduro. Ive heard the Top Trail Rider Series are good for relative begginers like me so should be good fun...anyone else going?

i did the first round as my first enduro,

as im new to auckland, how long does it take to get to whangarei?

we're racing the two man this weekend, but they sound quite good, i would be keen to do the next one.

Takes about 2 hours if you don't run into traffic, ie leave early morning and you will be fine. Might take a little longer if towing a trailor and sticking to 90km/hr.

At that hour of the morning traffic should be ok, but Hukerenui is another 20 minutes past Whangarei, so I'd budget on 2.5 hours ( Stay on the main road to Kaitaia through Whangarei, SH1 ).

About the TTR, I'll be there, my first enduro as well.

P.S. Here's a google map for hukerenui, there's a pub in the right & just past that on the left a garage & sign post for the Mid-Northern Rugby ground, the TTR signs are supposed to be near the pub, sign on from 8:30, riding from 10 I believe.

Its going to be myfirst crack at this kind of thing. Where do you enter? What are the rules and has anyone got any handy links or advice?

it has some good tips.
It was my first time at an enduro and had a ball.
I just entered in the novice class which was pretty short really at around 60km. net time I will go in the intermediate, although I may have lost some time doing that, but I wasnt really worried about that I just wanted the experience.

I am pleased I took a bumbag with a few tools in it, as just after the start of the second stage I realised my mudguard was falling off! So promptly stopped on the side of the trail to tighten up the two remaining bolts that were nearly falling out (more maintenance needed for me!...and maybe some locktight).

Make sure you have some water and snacks in the pits next to you fuel. And if your running late (during event) dont be tempted not to top up with fuel or have a banana and a muesli bar (or whatever food you decide on).

Have fun and just try and pace yourself, and go hard on the terrain tests.

Just enter on the day, get there around 8-8.30

I did the Hukerenui ride as well, first time enduro.

I'd add.

The pace is not that hard, so don't go to fast at the start, stay smooth ( I didn't, fell off & ended up with a damn near impossible throttle to twist by the time I got back to the pit's first time around ), remember to eat ( again I didn't ).

The other thing I'd say is if they put a warning up ( two down arrows ), unlike a Trial ride it might not be so obvious a blind monkey could see it, so be more careful of those than you might be used to.

In the end, it's the best riding I've ever had, nothing to hard technically, no quads, no slow riders ( except me ) & the people helping out are really cool.

It's absolutely a blast & worth the effort to go to.

I'm not sure about the minimum ( helmet/boots/goggles/gloves + near new rear tire should cover it, a camelback is handy )

The ride is off the Napier/Taupo road
