Stunning. Even my 14 yrd old was impressed (he's a budding guitarist) despite being a metal fan.

That was truly amazing...!! Thanks for finding that. Takes me back to before I broke my wrist.. When I could actually play guitar.. Now I cannot, ever.. :( *Emotional strings*

Not that I could play that well anyway :innocent:

Not sure if I am doing this right but I love the African style of guitar. And this guy is just like his old man :) <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_2x4M-L4WzY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_2x4M-L4WzY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Edit: By the way it's Vieux Farka Toure :)

Very cool stuff.

Actually Chisanga, I have an Ali Farke Toure and Ry Cooder album I've been thrashing lately. Nice to see his son's doing nicely too. I must hunt some down on the torrents.

Thanks for the Stairway too Dave. That fellas got some mighty strong fingers. My fretless wonder's spoiled me for that kind of stuff on acoustics now... it hurts too much to try.

First guy was awesome, the african guy though didn't sound very African, just an African jamming some very average blues based stuff. I love the ry cooder style music though. There's another guy in this mould who is worth a listen if this guy does it for you, I haven't listened to him in about 15 years but I *think* his name is Patrick Ubana Jones, do a search for him.

If you are interested in an amazing guitarist that you've probably never heard of, I present to you Don Ross :niceone:

He has quite a few songs on Youtube, all of em great.

There's some other guys I've seen on there too that are worth posting in this thread, I'll see if I can find em.

Paul Ubana Jones is the name. He may even be a kiwi as I saw him a couple of time at high school in Gisborne. Simply amazing what he could do with a guitar, made all the more impressive seeing it live.

stairway to heaven, beautiful song.. i love the original more than any covers... but still quite good I'm sure by the comments, i just dont want to listen to it in case it ruins the song for me .. lol...

Jimmy Page is my idol, and will forever be my idol... i have the same birth day as him, and my guitars are my children... my life .. heh...

Led Zep, I salute you!

I don't think it would be possible to ruin the original, it's a classic.

You should take a listen to this cover, it is excellent. It is simply another way to appreciate the classic.

Did you never hear / see the Rolf Harris version?

This one is certainly cool though. I just happened to catch it on J2 this morning.

Haven't seen that, but it doesn't sound pretty.

As I recall, it did cause a bit of an uproar with the PC rockers of the time.

It did include his 'beat-board' thingy and was done in much the same genre as his other music....whatever that genre is.

Vicki and I have a bit of a collection of Nuevo Flamenco (which if you insist on putting music into boxes - thats where I'd put this) and quite enjoy it!

The Stairway to Heaven track is from a studio album called Rodrigo y Gabriela and it alsom features a Metalica song 'Orion' (believe it or not) and it's actually a pretty damn good album. Comes with a DVD an everything...

We used to be serious Ottmar Liebert fans (saw him live, had the tee shirt etc) but Ottmar does not get much playtime at the moment - I have every confidence he will make a comeback.

Knee deep in flowers we'll stray
We'll keep the showers away
And if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight
Will you pardon me?
And tiptoe through the tulips with me...

I had an Ottmar Leibert album in the late 90s/early 2k that was awesome, a friend put me onto him when we use to have random music day at work.

Didn't come across him again until a new album last year, which was completely different and I didn't like it at all. Hopefully he heads back in teh direction he was going a few years back!

Ottmar was in Wellington about 10 or so years ago as one of the star turns for the Festival. Mrs H and I went along. What a band! I thought his drummer had a third leg.

The band is called Luna Negra and the bass guitar and drummer are long standing members - others come / go. We saw them on the same tour in ChCh - fantastic talents.

On the subject of guitarists. I had the pleasure to watch a chap by the name of Norbert Langensiepen play in the town square of Albufiera, Portugal about two years ago. He plays easy listening type music and although the tunes are all old hits and easily recognisable, he certainly adds his own style. I bought one of his 4 CDs but unfortunately he died in August 05.

Don't know where samples of his music can be found though and you certainly wont see it on mainstream.

Found this after my first look into YouTube
