Does anyone have any recommendations re mc hire from Wellington? The Harris’s have closed & I’d hardly recommend throwing $ their way.
I have a mad step uncle who is coming out to NZ & wants to tiki tour around for a bit in the SI, but he wants to leave from Wgtn. Most outfits seem to be based in Auckland or Chch.
Any experience with them? I might just suggest he takes another flight to chch. I’d lend him my tourer but he toppled the last hire bike over turning around & the RF is considerably heavier (but not as tall) as the Pegasus thingy he had.
Besides I’m washing its hair that week. :yeah: Yeah that's a good excuse.

Talk to the hire companies..
They are based in chch / akl for obvious reasons. Thats where the main gateways are but they are always relocating bikes in either direction. Dropping it off in wellie will be no problem I think.

There's definitely a bike hire place in Nelson. Can't remember the name but they hire out Harleys and Beemers etc etc. Might be Thunderbikes???

If he dosnt mind going to Christchurch I can personally reccomend these guys:

Top blokes that went the extra mile for me and made my holiday a whole lot better than I was expecting by solving a problem at no small cost to themselves. They`re a good crew and look after their customers. They also supply riding gear in with the rental, well-used obviously but does the job and better than lugging a helmet and god knows half way around the world in my case. Better gear is available for a few dollars extra. If he wants to go up north and drop the bike off at their Auckland base that`s no problem, might be a neat way to end up his holiday, bit of a cruise up through North Island.
They do all kinds of bikes, including a few old but worthy war-horses for the budget traveller. I take it from you writing "Pegasus" and your description that he rides an Aprilia Pegaso. If so what he wants is an FS650 BMW, which is basically what he`s got,the older models were even built in the Aprilia factory and the motors are almost identical apart from the BM being a 4-valver, the Aprilia 5. He`ll be away from home on strange roads so a familiar-ish bike will probably be a good move.If you get in touch with the guys tell `em Dave from Plymouth sent you, might get me a discount next time round.

ok I'll pass that on as a suggestion. Dunno what he has back home, he hired a 'prilla last time, but it was fairly tall which was the problem (didn't expect many people to know what a Pegasus was so didn't bother to explain).
Posh Tourer :P

Thunderbikes rings a bell as a name.
Used to work for Te Waipounamu M/C tours, but they are based in Chch and Akl. They may be able to do a Wellington if you give them enough notice

That`s the guys I recommended. Good people, Darren in Auckland was a star("grab yourself a beer out of the fridge and I`ll give her a quick wash down") and John in Christchurch recently sent me some pics for a magazine article I wrote plus I believe it was on his say so that I found myself riding an 1100 BMW instead of the XT600 I`d booked because the XT was waiting on parts. My first experience of the Kiwi way of doing things and I was well-impressed, over here I`d have got shit-loads of excuses and probably my money back rather than any effort into sorting out any problem.
