there is a ride on this weekend, what are the tracks like? are they the ones from the 2 man last weekend?
When: Sunday, 13 May 2007
Where: Woodhill Forest - Southern Entrance - Murawai
District (Region): Greater Auckland (AUCKLAND)
Directions: Signposted from State Highway 16 at Waimauku - head to Murawai and down through township. Take Coast Road past the Golf Club and enter the Forest from that end. A gate person will direct you to the start area.
Classes: - This ride has a minimum of four courses; blue for Beginners, green for kids, yellow for the whole family and red for the more skilled - tracks are groomed and user friendly - lots of fun.
Terrain: Sand Based Forest - All weather so riding doesn't stop. Easy terrian and lots of fun and especially really safe.

looks like it will be in the same area, the tracks around there are great, but some rain would be needed i think to make it worthwhile. if it has a days rain between now and then i will be going. the expert tracks are fun but no where near as technical as riding in riverhead!!

Your love it cheese, alot better then the trails at the bike part.
As they are not ridden every weekend.
Should still have alot of grass cover over the sand.
And a trial that you haven't been on before is always better then one that you can use every week. Even if it is cut up a bit.
Im not going to this ride as i'll most likely have to be "pit bitch for Gr8bums"
and "ArsoslowWC" at rodey club day:dodge: .
can't ride as instead of "thrashing" my 600 around the track i ended "trashing" it in stead:shutup: , and my wrist is paying for my big balls stupidity

a pretty good area to ride, when you can get access to it,
you will enjoy it more than the bike park.
I can only think of one area only one area better in the forest,
and thats the lake block :sunny: :sunny:
just north of the exsisting bike park, it used to be sub leased by a maori trust, not sure who controls it now, if you ever get the chance to ride there grab it with both hands..
Bugger all sand, heaps of natural jumps, lake, cover ,forest shade
great spot..

yep fully agree, still one of my fav places to ride
riverhead has huge potential, but I don't think it will ever happen,

dude, yeah mystical is a good description of the maori block,
its not part of the bike park, its about two blocks north of the eastern boundry of the bike park, you travel north up the center forestry road, you know where the double gates are ... as I said it used to be under the control of a maori trust, not sure if its been logged out yet or not, it was the best part of the whole forest, Greg ran some one off events there a couple of years ago, we would spend a day marking it out, a day test riding it , then run the event the following day..
I will make some enquires tonight and see if it is ever still available, will drop you a pm if I find anything positive..

Damn that might count me out.
$35 for me on CR250, $35 for my 17 year old on CR125, probably $25?? KX85 S/W for my 12 year old, Thats 95 bucks plus petrol for the ute and bikes for a family day out.
Probably go to Thunder Valley now.
Makes the Mr Motorcycles cross countries at $60 per family quite a good deal! Their site says they made 60 grand for charity over the 6 rides so someones doing ok at $35-00 per bike.
The kind lady at Thunder Valley only charges me $45-$50 for a family depending on how she is feeling that day and every 6th ride is free. So over the 6 that adds up to about $42 per time. And she has lots of awards for donations to westpac helicopter etc. So we know where some of our money goes when we go there. So that gets my vote.

Had a look on Silver bullett there is a club day at the Rodney MCC but i suppose you need a license etc and it will be a race day. Don't think me or my boys are ready for that. Looks like nice farm land tracks though.

oh no cheese she's far to wised up to my tricks over the years to fall for that one.
I'm always working on the bikes doing something, so its quite common they are in bits. So here's hoping!
I put a Steahly fly wheel weight on my bike came with all the bits in the kit ie bolts, spacer for cover. Paid 199 and took 10mins to chuck it on.
Reckless
10th May 2007, 23:13
Same 4 me. The one from tjebbe on my 01 CR250 was just a few minutes. But Cheese has got the later honda and there is bugger all room between his fly wheel and the case I think.
From the pics on the web the Stealy ones for his 04 bolt to the outside but there is a fairly wide spacer you put between the crankcase and the cover. and have to modify the cover aswell.
So it may be the best of 2 evils. Honda was probably trying to keep the cases small and light so didn't leave room for after market add ons. It is supposed to be a race bike. We want the power but don't wanna maintain a 4 stroke so its a compromise.

11th May 2007, 08:42
I ended up taking the flywheel weight off as there is too much flywheel and not enough space. I'll get Tjebbe to machine it down a bit for me.

It can get muddy there. Mainly slippery on top. It was good last weekend. Didn't do the A track as I had my boys. But the B was ok. If the weather is bad give them a call B4 you start to pack.
Thunder Cross Valley 09/233-3117 Fiona or James Fowlie.
As you approach the big Mobil at Mercer on the statehwy 1, go off to your left and take the New fly-over, over the motorway. I think there is a roundabout next, go straight through, then Pretty much follow the road for quite a while when you get to a T intersection, turn left. You wil go past Glen Murray and a golf club. Just keep heading for the big Mast on top of the hill with 3 or 4 big transmission dishes on it. You go directly past this and the entrance has a sign in about 1/2 a k/m. Drive down and stop at the house pay your money. Then go on down to the parking area. Find a spot under a big tree if its sunny.
When riding go to the far end of the carpark and turn right across the stream. Not left as thats the way out. The A track is a fork after you start the B about 1min or so in. So don't look for it from the carpark.
Would have liked to show you guys the way but not sure of my plans.

Oh I forgot. Don't forget she will give you a ticket and sign one of the slots. After 5 the 6th ride is free, bloody good loyalty system.
It is getting a bit choped up in places. No ruts but a few spots where the bikes have dug quite deep corogations try to get grip. It can't be to long b4 he gets the digger out. Its still second to Kimis though and first for entry cost.
Off to get my suspenders from Danger now CYA

Thank god I had body armour on as i would have fucked my sholder otherwise. I wasted my thumb as it was!! Ended up falling off about 8 times on the first loop.....
B Loop was awesome. A bit slippery in parts with some water down on the surface. I shit myself a bit with the downhills after all my spills.... Manageed to not fall off agiain, but my thumb made it a bit hard to go fast.

Went there one Wednesday about a month ago with my 17 year old, it was quite busy, he didn't even have a go. As the ones there were jumping high and long. He's not a whimp either, raced Karts for 7 years or more and can get round the B track at Thunder ok. But its pretty imtimidating when everyone is going for it. The other riders are very good but we thought the trails might be best intil we can jump 3 stories in the Air

Hope my directions to Thunder helped. Glad you had a good day out there. B track is getting a little cut up since I first went there. But its good aye!
Ardmore on a Wednesday practice starts at about 2pm so it would only be an afternoon off. Had a job in Papakura today so dropped by the track its in good nick wet enough for no dust, but not muddy. He does look after it well.

Theres not alot of clay at the Tarawera rides, its a nice loomy pumice type soil, it drains quite well and therefore drys quite quickly, but if you get alot of rain before the race it will still be quite slippery.
If you had that much trouble on the A track at thundercross, you may want to get a bit more practise in before tackling the T100.

Yeah I should be ok. I want to get a bit more time on the bike before the race. I might try to do a Wednesday at ardmore. I think if I'd done a few laps on the B loop before the A loop I would have been more confident.

Depending on conditions, which vary from week to week, a certain enduro champion (Chris Birch) has been known to comment that the A loop "took a fair bit of riding" to get through. He got round, of course, but it wasn't that easy.
Not sure how much James has changed the place since then (few years back) but it's not always as easy as on dry days.
I think this expert has also gone on to win the T100, but can't quite remember if he's even bothered to race it. I know last year they were commenting he was going to race, but as he was also going to the A4DE, he never made it.
I think I've only ever made it out there once or twice (definitely once, remember getting myself in a total shit hole through total stupidity on my part) but looking forward(?) to going again in a few weeks' time.
Sorry, but to basically slag off someone who struggled around the A loop, unless you were there, it's uncalled for as conditions change. No, I wasn't there the day the expert was there either, but my husband was & he commented about the comment from Chris afterwards.
It may be that Cheese was totally out of his depth but will have a ball at the T100. Cheese - are you going to the Waitemata MCC family day at the end of this month? If so, ask at sign-on if I've left anything for you. I've got a video of the T100 from a few years back - I want it back, but it may give you a bit of an idea of what to expect. If not, good luck (doubt I'm doing any off-road riding before or after then for a while).

"Sorry, but to basically slag off someone who struggled around the A loop, unless you were there, it's uncalled for as conditions change. No, I wasn't there the day the expert was there either, but my husband was & he commented about the comment from Chris afterwards".
Whoa ease up tiger... it was hardly slagging him off, it was a general comment!
I have ridden the A loop at thundercross hundreds of times and know exactly how bad it can get.
I have also raced enduros and ridden the Tarawera tracks many times and would think that it was only common sense to say that if you had that much trouble with such a short loop then maybe you might need a bit of practise before tackling a long race like T100.
No offence cheese.

I don't think that cheese is out their to win the t100, but to give it a go, and do it for fun.:dodge:
You never know he could finish the race with a smile:eek: on his face, and isn't that the main thing?

Na I'm not offended. I'm entering the race for the fun factor. I'm just going to try to not be last.
