This may be useful to someone.
I'll add things as I find them (unless I'm bidding of course :shifty:).

This was for sale a while ago (9 months?) and I had a look at it. Actually, despite the colour, it's a very clean and sound bike. Great buying for someone!

The orange is only paint that an hour with paint stripper will remove.

That first link is for a pre 96 DR650RS. There is very little similarity between it and the new DR650's. Being an RS though it was the touring DR650 with the twin pipes (this is the give away) and it would have had a fairing of sorts on the front end.

The two bikes go together - make one better (good might be a little strong) bike out of the two???

I recently brought a 2008 DR650 (trading up from a BMW 650 Dakar as it was just too heavy for anything more than gravel road touring) and now want to buy a few parts to get it set-up right.

Can anyone provide advice on where to source things like a dynojet kit plus K&N filter? i.e. can you buy these locally (I'm in Wellington) or is it best to buy online and bring parts in from the US?

Any other recommendations on set-up? I have an IMS tank on order already.
Cheers.

Awesome. I was tempted to throw a bid on those, but got a bit rich for me.

If I paid myself $30 to change my tyres myself, the price of those is over 20 changes, and you still have to take the wheels off and on. If I ran 2 sets of tyres, I'd have to change them over 20 times before they started paying for themselves, (Ok, that's Bart logic).

Watch that back tyre though. I've got one of those and it's a shitter on the black stuff. Not bad for mud or gravel though.

I haven't on mine yet, but helped a mate with his DR650. I didn't believe him when he said it was a bitch of a thing. I had a go.........and the rubber hammer got a work out. Had to really beat the tyre down into the well in the rim. Wasn't too bad, but certainly harder than the 18 inch DRZ rear.

Joe and Dave were at my place saturday and changed the rear on Dave's bike. I was going to take a video of the comedy show as there was a lot of sweating and straining for not much progress.

It appeared to be a lot more difficult that other tyres changes I've seen done.

You need a good galvanic lucifer, you do.

LED is today, something made of glass tubes and vessels, precious-metal electrical contacts, carbon electrodes and based on the electrolytic decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen is too primitive, besides the DR forks won't handle the weight.

Helmet mount then.

Have you read "Cryptonomicon"?

Very good description of one there :D

When he ventures back, he finds Ghnxh whittling an electrode from an ingot of pure carbon. The jar of aqua regia has been capped off now, and a variety of anodes, cathodes, and other working substances are suspended in it, held in place by clamps of hammered gold. Thick wires, in insulating sheathes of hand-knit asbestos, twist out of the jar and into the business end of the galvanick lucifer: a copper salad bowl whose mouth is closed off by a Fresnel lens like the ones on a lighthouse. When Ghnxh gets his carbon whittled to just the right size and shape, he fits it into a little hatch in the side of this bowl, and casually throws a Frankensteinian blade switch. A spark pops across the contacts like a firecracker.

For a moment, Waterhouse thinks that one wall of the building has collapsed, exposing them to the direct light of the sun. But Ghnxh has simply turned on the galvanick lucifer, which soon becomes about ten times brighter, as Ghnxh adjusts a bronze thumbscrew. Crushed with shame, Waterhouse puts his Navy flashlight back into its prissy little belt holster, and precedes Ghnxh out of the room, the galvanick lucifer casting a palpable warmth on the back of his neck.

They were going to put XR on it but they found it was too hard to start after picking it up.
