Awesome news!
I just got a call from the President of the VMCC, saying I got the sponsored ride for the Winter Series! Yay!! :D
He said they were looking for around 15/16 year olds and, well, I'm gonna be 20 before the end of the year :o but mentally, I'm around that age and I'm sure I can hibernate in a small box for a week or so to stunt growth before the races start.
Will this mean all the racers on the 150s (streetstock?) will be around that age? If so, my not-weighing-much-as-a-handy-advantage plan has been foiled... If this is the case, I shall be racing against young experienced racing lads with typically no regard for their own lives, who weigh about the same, if not less than me. Bugger!
Oh well, if I get my knee down I'll be happy... Unless the rest of me and the bike follows which I REALLY HOPE won't happen!
A small problem has arisen though. My helmet is a Caberg, it is a flip up lid which is not allowed in racing. My spare helmet is a HJC but is slightly too big. It would do, but there's a bit of play when moving it from side to side and up and down when wearing it. Without being done up, I think it would come off pretty easily at speed. But the strap is quite secure.
So I was wondering if anyone has a spare full face helmet out there, that is a small, size 55-56, that they wouldn't mind lending to a noob to put in to peril. If you could pass on this plight, I'd appreciate it very much.
Now I just have to sift through these forms that I just printed off. They're all so technical...
edit: I just thought, my boots are secured by velcro and whilst they do their job, I'm not sure they'll be substantial enough for racing? If anyone can shine a light on that too, I'd appreciate it cos I'll need to ask around for some boots aswell. So unprepared!

Congrats also! But.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to a good store (Turnbulls probably if you are in Feilding or Whitelocks is it? or better still, head down to MotoMart and ask Marty Sparkybills to sort you out) and buy some good gear!!!! A helmet that flops around or a borrowed one is NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! (and yes, Cabergs and BMW helmets are not suitable). Velcro closure only boots are also a BARE minimum. Remember, it is your body, it behoves you to protect it the best you can. And also remember, this is motorcycle road racing, race tracks are hard and scratchy and it is motorsport. Motorsport costs money, it does not happen for free. Please go and spend some money on the best gloves, boots and helmet you can possibly afford or better still, ones you can't afford, cos they will be better. I assume you have good leathers (zip together minimum) and a back protector. I see in your pic that you have Quasi leathers. They are also a minimum standard, but will be pretty good for you I reckon. Rmember that back protector!!
Sorry to appear like an old nana, but we don't want any new riders (or old ones for that matter) to get hurt for the lack of good gear do we. Believe me, when you are sliding down the main street of Paeroa at 180km/h (back in 1991 that was) you appreciate that you spent a few extra bucks on good gear.
Enjoy ;-)

Find a sponsor with access to SPRINT. You'll be amazed at the rude markup bike kit is in this country.

no i wouldnt be amazed...im well aware of the obscene prices we pay here
just look at the comparative prices of helmets (for example) on ebay....even with shipping included you can land a helmet for under $350NZ that would retail for $600, was looking at Nolans, the problem is, no-one in palmy sells them so i cant try the damn things on!
but.. SPRINT?? do tell....

AJ, you're spot on with the KD description, that's exactly it!
I'm looking forward to chatting to you 150 racers, I might even pick up tips on how you go about this whole racing business.
Yod, my helmet is the S500 Alpha as opposed to the Air one with all the vents and stuff, and that set me back $200, after a $30 discount so not too bad but still  when you're broke! I bought that at Freedom Honda.
Prices are pretty insane over here aye, my mate's bringing me an AGV TiTech over from the UK with him when he visits at the end of next month, he's paying 250 quid for it, which is what... $700? Around that, whereas over here, they're more than double that.
Thanks to everyone for the good wishes and stuff, I'm gonna need all the luck I can get so it's much appreciated! Cheers! :D

ayyi yi crikey. I buy my helmets when I go to Japan on business. Latest Arai top notch helmets are less than $500 there as opposed to well over a thousand in NZ.
Thanks to Craig Sheriffs I got my HJC helmet for free.
And since then I have been going faster its something in that helmet Im sure of it.
Knee down comes with time and confidence.
I mean my firstknee down the bike was straight and I had my body forced off the bike to do it now I use my knee put it out and stand on the peg to push bike over to drag it.
SOme riders drag it and then lift it up I drag it and keep it sliding some riders I know never drag it and are fast,
Dont be scared to race scaring yourself only gets worse and wrose rught until raceday where you have so many thoughts on your mind and you might not go fast,
I actually think about what my plan is and memorise the track in my head theday before and then load up and then get to the track and ride the bike
The more comfartable you are the better you will learn things to go faster

Prices in NZ are the way they are cos distributors and retailers tend to double up the prices as they go, so you pay 200% margin oftentimes, and remember the shipping costs also.
But, there are smaller importer/retailers under the one roof who offer better prices, but often not on the best gear cos they are already tied up in agreements. But this is not always the case (eg tyrewarmers.co.nz shameless plug!!!) and some of these guys have good brands.
Getting gear from overseas is OK as far as that goes, but beware, that helmet sizing and shell shapes do differ from market to market and what happens if the fit is wrong? Ask the NZ Police hahahahahahahaha, wankers!
And if an AGV Ti-Tech for example, is legally declared as it should be cos it is over the value threshold, GST will be payable too on top of the shipping which if it was mailed from the UK would be about 30-40 pounds. But can be snuck in if you are careful or tricky. A Ti-Tech for 200 knicker is WAY below the odds even in the UK. Retail for a plain colour Ti-Tech can be up to 260 or 300 pounds.
And remember, if we all go trying to buy stuff off the internet, then there will soon be no local distributors of anything.
Enjoy ;-)
