I'm just wonder how many of you guys use your bike as your MAIN form of transport.
I know there are quite of few weekend bikers and people who only ride on sunny days etc..
Just kinda curious about the exact ratio..
I myself use my bike for getting basically everywhere, most of the time when its raining as well. The only time i dont use it is when i feel i would be is real danger taking it out, say on a very windy rainy day... I clock up about 45km every weekday commuting...

i was down your way this morning, was a great day for a ride, pity i was in my car.
I use my bike for going to work and local trips around the city... but only in the dry! i hate getting my bike wet, not cos i dont like rain. If i had a crap old bike then id use a bike 95% of the time. at the moment the ratio is 50:50 bike to car.

I answer the top option, though do have cars, but I am more than wiling and do ride in all weathers and anyday. But with work being a matter of metres aways from the back door, not much point starting anything to get there, though I might have to buy a new pair of boots for walkin... lol

Bar the heavens soaking the roads, or a much needed trip to the shops for supplies - it's bike all the way. Is there any better way to travel? :D

Only form of transport for me.
Used to own a car as well, but hardly used it and it started to fall in disrepair from lack of use. Rego etc lapsed... went mouldy inside... so cleand it up and sold it to skidmark.
Im fortunate that I live with people that own cars, and when im working on my bike and need parts I can borrow their car to go get stuff for it.
Every other time/situation I use my bike. Even if its just cigs at the dairy down the road.
I dont mind the rain. Every morning I jump into the shower and get wetter than is ever possible with all my bike gear on so dont see what all the fuss is about. Its only rain. Its water. Thats all. Take gear off - im dry. Simple.
Thats why I have a sports-tourer opossed to a sport bike... much more comfortable for daily use.

I've always had both a cage and bike.
When my last car blew up the bike became the main transport.
Other than that its purely for fun. Sometimes I'll use it more than just on the weekends.
Dont think I'll ever make up my mind on this one. Its easy to just use both.

I used to ride all of the time in all weathers, I had little other choice, the bike was basically a necessity... these days the bike has changed, and so has its purpose... a nice shiny toy to be dragged out of the shed and enjoyed when the mood takes me. Usually the mood takes me when it isn't pissing down. The thought of all that cleaning takes some of the fun out of it.

My bike is my main transport...really only use cage when I have to pick stuff up that wont fit on the bike rain hail or shine.......

Used to be my only form of transport other than shoe leather then life changed and I got to use "our" car occasionally. Now I work at home so don't need to commute any more. Occasionally we take a day off and then I'll be on the bike usually to watch some racing or maybe just a quick thrash around the back roads

I have both, use the bike as often as possible (those who know my pootling, know that well!) Ride in all weathers, anytime, anywhere!
like today ... used the cage to pick up bike bits, but I was seriously thinking of taking the bike and strapping the spare rear RZ wheel onto my back!
Whatta sight that woulda been for the cagers I pass ... Red ninja rider with a red rear wheel whizzing past them! :innocent:
Damn, now that I think of it, I shoulda done!
My option is not there - I use the bike most of the time. It's mainly if I need to carry lots of shite that I take the car - I ride the ducati in the rain - it's not true what they say - Ducatis are waterproof!
Yeah - bike $6,500 car $1,500....I'm not as rich as these out of work IT types from Hamihole

No voting option for me, I have a cage a light truck and the bike, I ride the bike as first preference rain hail or shine but sometimes the forces of darkness win and I have to use the others, damn it! :shit: John.
can you add an option:
"i use my work car for work, and my wife's car if i need it, but other than that i use my bike" ?
thanks in advance,

so obviously, my tick went for bike all the time. Dry, its awesome, wet, you pass all the gridlock, so it can be awesome whichever way you look at it

Currently trying to resolve this problem for myself as well.
It pulls at the heart strings firing up a $17,000 mile muncher to travel 9 km at 40km an hour each way, let alone using 168ps to go to the dairy for cigarettes.
No, as soon as I can manage it there will be a little shitter sharing my parking space with my pride and joy. Nothing flash but that I can service myself and will get me to and from work on $150 per end instead of eating $350 per end tyres in the last five months (15,000 by the time they are no longer legal).
I estimate (short of major mechanical failure) a $500 bike to commute on (while ugly) will save me around $1900 a year in maintenance and my bike will last longer as a result.
i ride my scooter to work everyday. easy to park and i dont get stopped by the cops everytime they see me coming home at 3am
and it doesnt wake up the neighbour hood ... but i do take the harley everynow and then
hardly ever take the car - unless its snowing

I ride a much as I can if weather to shite I'll take the bus, I have a car but reg. on hold as I have never used it since I moved to Auck.
I've got quite a nice Maxima but the bike to car K's ratio is about 15 to 1.
I should get rid of it but probably wouldn't get much for it and it does come in handy sometimes.....Nice to have a choice i guess. That's what freedom is all about.

Whats the top of the fuel tank for man?

So true and if I had a Staffy then maybe...buuuut the hounds are twice that size!
Have a friend with a Norton and his Staffy used to perch on the tank, she wore a 'biggles' flying hat/mask!
Know another guy with a Buell who transports his foxie in a backpack.
I have a work vehicle which I and others use during the day so have to take that to work. The missus has a company car, plus we have a near new Falcon sitting in the shed doing nothing, so the bikes have become purely a recreational thing as I've got older.
During the weekend if I have to go anywhere or into town I usually always take a bike unless needing to pick up hardware/DIY etc etc.
Used to use the bike to work most days when heaps younger and more bullet proof.
can you add an option:
"i use my work car for work, and my wife's car if i need it, but other than that i use my bike" ?

(it would take 1 hr to get to work in the car and $2500 per year parking. 30 mins on the bike + free parking)
I voted '1' just in case no.

man it sucks to live in auckland
takes me 7 minutes to get to work in a car, maybe 10 on a bad day
and thats from the edge of town to the centre :killingme:
of course, it IS palmy so if i didnt have a bike, i'd be bored senseless....

ATM I'm using the bike everyday, and the car only when I need to transport shit around.
Once the weather turns nasty I'll probably find I end up using the tinbox more though

My bike's my only registered and warranted vehicle, so most of the time it's the bike if I need to get anywhere. I do have the option of taking my partner's car if it's pissing down (haven't got any wet weather gear for the bike, really need to do something about that), unless she needs it for work, for travelling to a client (auditor), then the bike's my only option. I do have a car, but it's in storage at the moment, reg on hold, waiting for me to send it to the panel and paint shop. It'll be there a while longer ;)

only got a bike. dont know how to drive anything else! use the bike to and from work no matter the weather, and also for going into town, or out of town, unless mum or dad is going the same way.
