Mint TL 98TLS, my one used to be that colour, tis black now, not by my choice though. Enjoy it mate, BTW dropping a 16T on the front helps liven things up, and makes 2nd gear wheelies a mite side easier

Some might call me lucky, i consider damn unlucky, the TL got looped at 180kph (my bad) it's a bit funky looking now, and the GSXR motor died, crank bearings went, 1st in a lot places to do a crank in
So i's gotta sell the TL to buy a motor maybe at the mo. 5 bikes and only 1 runs barely, just hanging on for dear life (the TL, god bless the poor thing, just keeps on going):not:

I just had a poke of my spring up the side of the frame, and I assume the bushes are gone, because its got a fair bit of updown/sideways movement at the rod exit point - I assume its like any other rod assembly and it should stay quite straight? If everyone else agrees that it sounds forked, does anyone have a spare laying around? Bike, and I assume spring has 94thou on the clock. Cheers!

Yea bro 94K is good going, mine did itself in at 73K and Dss3's did his in even earlier, 60K's me thinks. No real way to fix it other than chuck a second hand shock in, i got mine for cheap as chips from the states from the guys on www.tlplanet.com put aup a thread and see if anyone comes to the party, most have done a bitubo or the likes conversion and have there stock shock hanging around.

Unless you wanna do an bitubo conversion yourself, it's already got an ohlins right?

Bummer you're down tauranga way, otherwise you could've brought it round to my pad and i could've done it for ya in less than half an hour or so, it's a fairly straight forward job, just pay attention to how everything comes out, especially the linkage at the bottom end of the shock.

Cheers for the offer loosebruce. I'll be right for taking it out, as I will need to take the back wheel off soon for a new tyre anyway - never hurts to see if anyone has one privately for sale before going to the wrecker and shelling out too much money  I figure i will just use the steel bar through swingarm mount and axel stands on either side, looks good on paper.
When I get the old one out I might have to look at some diy engineering to bring it back to life as a spare. Its amazing what you can do with some cuttlery and a welder
Recently did the temperature sensor relocation - was running at about 67deg on the open road, now sits at 80-83 (also put in a daihatsu charade 88deg thermostat), though I have yet to take it out on a really cold day, but I suspect it could need the bypass modification still.

New KAD top tripple

Set of new radiators
Yosh 2-1 head pipes
Graves fairing stay w/front harness hooked up.

Had a run over the weekend, and I've had a slight problem with the bike @ 3000-3500RPM that it stalls slightly then surges.. well a mate told me to put it into Dealer Mode... which was fine.. did the ol shorten out the connector with a wire and it read -c00 at idle.. so I twist the wrist till it got to the laggy\surge part of the dial and after a couple times.. it sorted it out. I'm guessing it sorted any fuel richness\deficiency?

The ride to work this morning.. the lag\surge is gone, nearly 97%, there's a slight glimmer of it there.. but I'm very pleased with the result. I've been contemplating getting it fully serviced... think I may still go ahead and do that....

So where did this originall price list come from? it was not direct from Suzuki NZ as they do not sell to the public, and where did the 2nd list come from

TLDV8

So where did this originall price list come from? it was not direct from Suzuki NZ as they do not sell to the public, and where did the 2nd list come from

The first list is Brent B's from up the page further.A dealer price no doubt.
The second list is Ronayers.com in the US (admitted i think they are an online seller so some reduced costs perhaps)

The current price here for a TL1000S "bare" front fairing is over nz$500 per side..(That price has been the same going back to the old us 41 cents for nz$1 years ago when i got a full set of plastic)
One of the members on TL Zone (US) just bought the same fairing from his local dealer,cost.... US$163 or nz$ 243

No one can deny business's running at a profit or they would not survive,but..

Two head and base gaskets here, around $270.

I still remember the BS price quoted here when i was doing the Honda SP2 TB to TL mod and wanted some stock manifolds. They were half the cost including freight from the US..$200 dearer here.

Someone is setting the RRP,i would have thought Suzuki NZ or what name they go by (Used to be based in Wanganui ?)

Lets not even go near the stainless Yoshimura mufflers at $1500 a pair here...To put that into perspective my full high mount system with Titanium cans cost less than that including air freight,GST and no BS receipts to get it though customs.

It is just something that annoys me every now and again..... I love those standard..Its the exchange rate mate..... Ummm ok,then how is it that the prices are the same when the rate has gone from 41 cents to as high as 71 cents.....You suddenly get no more answer's

Had my 1999 black TL1000R for about 2 months now, and loving it's power and sound, done the TRE mod, cheap, cost of a 15k resistor from dick smiths, adjusted throttle TPS, was miles out of adjustment. Have not done airbox mod yet, but have just setup suspension, with settings from sportsrider .com, was having trouble running wide on corners but seems good now,( might have been going to fast !!! ) also changed the oil in the steering damper to lighter grade. Hope to meet a few riders out there.

It has a full yoshi two into one system, Bitubo rear suspension, rear height adjuster and a few other things done to her.

There may be a few hp gained at the rear wheel but not a huge amount. However, the weight saving is pretty impressive which of course helps with the performance.

Whats your opinion on running the TL without the steering damper. It feels pretty good without it as I've set the suspension pretty well. It's such a clumsy and clutted set up that if I can ride confidently and the way I like to with out it I will leave it off.

Get in line.

Whats your opinion on running the TL without the steering damper. It feels pretty good without it as I've set the suspension pretty well. It's such a clumsy and clutted set up that if I can ride confidently and the way I like to with out it I will leave it off.

I left it on for my other TL's as they were running the rotary damper and stick.

I think since you have aftermarket suspension on the rear you should be Ok , I only ever got serious scares when mine had the rotary door closer on it. The TL feels as stable as a rock ( without the steering damper ) after the Buell and that has no damper either.
The stock damper makes the TL feel stodgy in my opinion .
However should you not use the damper and come to grief this post will self destruct :)

I took mine off once for a long ride and it was night and day handling wise.
But it has saved my arse too many times running over rabbits, ducks and opossums to keep it off the bike.

And where's that sound clip?

She seems to be quite steady without it. I'll put it on today and see how heavy it makes it feel.

I'll put some 2.5w in so that should help.<_<

Nice mate , Those clutch covers were just coming out when I sold my old TL. They look so goooood. Don't tell me you have those 6 potters sitting in your garage then? I am expecting a package very soon.

I'm used to very good brakes and pretty good front suspension so that is taking a bit to get used to.

I pissed around with mine a bit mate, just couldnt get them right, first ride with the gixxer forks and radial calipers i pretty much said "thank fuck for that",you may have better results than me and look forward to what you think, what year calipers are you getting?not sure if and when they changed em.That said it may well be how there used etc,i grew up riding bikes with no rear brake (read as might not as well have had one) and all these years later i really dont give a shite what the experts and books say i simply dont touch the thing, who knows but as i said be interested to see what you think of them after riding what you have of late.

So as you know the brakes are really average on the TL s.

today I have got some sintered pads and some new rotors on and the difference is brilliant. The old rotors that were on there were cast and needed to be super hot to work. They also rusted in the wet.:weird:

I have now got some decent stopping power again.

Next is a look at the front suspension. New oil is first.

They shouldn't of needed to be superhot, that sounds more like a pad/rotor material mismatch, cast was always considered superior to stainless as a braking material and Brembo still do a lot of cast discs

I got sintered pads but the rotors that were on there were not OEM but clever cast ones. They did not work well. Kic mentioned earlier that they should have been good in fact very good but I'm happier with them off and have lots more stopping powere with the wavy stainless. I have a six potter set here ready to go on but will see how I go with this combo first.

Yeh the 1198 is a great bike.

I have loved getting back on the TL. It is a real hoot to ride but I have to think a little more about where I put her on the road.

That gsxr conversion sounds like it is the way to go. I'll just do the fork oil etc first.

So can u go back to the old mount while you sort a new one?

I could but I'd just have a real dark video, my old visor has a wee bit of high side damage :innocent:

I was thinking of making a hole in the new visor and fitting a small peice of clear polycarb for a cam port... i think this will make my bike ugly...er

You'll be right as long as you zoom in so it's only showing from behind the screen.
It only effs up if it's half 'n half

Oh not your visor mate your blade or your screen. I get what you are saying.

Vmax has made up a helmet mount for his little cam. He is doing mostly dirt bike riding now. It would be similar to yours. Ask him about it:yes:

I've seen some of his footage and its pretty good:yes:

I have mounts for most of my cameras, its just a matter of how you stick them to the helmet I thought maybe rivets as I don't want screws in my helmet.

hows is yours attached?

I would be keen on another coro loop, wouldn't have those slow MV's in my way crashing and what not

not sure about weather tho, it don't look so flash

Yes well sounds like the MV guys had an interesting outing with Mr shineypants. :innocent: but lets not talk about that

The go pro uses very clever mounts with a 3m tape on the underside. I have a mount on my helmet and two on the girlz bike.

I'll give it a try, I guess it should work as the cameras have auto brightness adjustment. Hopefully cuts out some glare too.

I'd like to mount a rear facing one too, that should be loads easier.

On a side note my new Dunlop Q2 rear seems a different composition to the last one ??? a little softer but still good cold grip, it wasn't all oily from new either

It's worked for me with excellent results...as in you didn't realise it was being filmed from behind a screen

Ahh yes, I have some real sticky thin foam dub tape and some HevDuty solid velcro stuff too.

Will experiment later today, I have to cut the seat tube down on my BMX so my son can reach the ground for a ride today.

So just about 118 at the rear wheel, shes a little on the rich side but I don't think the yoshi box could have been specific enough to lean that out so I left it as is.

Yeh its a bit funny really:yes: I'm pretty happy to have gotten that with out doing anything to her.

The run was to see if the fueling was where it should be. As you can see it's a little rich in places so theres room to move if I wanted to. Which I don't:sunny:
