THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON THE REPOST POLICE - THE QRF
How long is long enough before something can be posted again? Let's face it there is stuff that has been posted within a day of being by someone else and it has a easily searchable title - REPOST!! Scream the repost police... But what about something that has been posted awhile ago and may have been forgotten by everyone but the Polizi? Is there a certain length of time that is permissible between repeated posts before it can be posted again?

And a repost to you too sir
With the new Junta taking control of KB, the bills for hosting massive amounts of data that are exactly the same, will be passed onto them instead of the almighty Spank.
The QRF are doing the dirty work of the "Regime".
Obey all orders and you will be spared a fate WORSE, than a fate worse than death!

Have you done a "Search"???
Have you done a "Search"???
I frisk my wife daily.....
The problem is daft bastards putting the wrong title on the original - for example you go looking for a man with three buttocks - he's not been on KB before - GREAT - I'll post it!
Next thing some fukka points out the man WITH ONE AND A HALF ARSES has been mentioned before.
Repost! repost! repost! - keep it within reason FFS.

How much material is new anyway? Not a lot I'd wager. We've had mini-skirts since 40 or 50 years ago, skateboards come and go, music is constantly 'remade' and posts of ubiquitous information drift around here like the pollution in the north Pacific... it will turn up again sooner or later...

WHO CARES! NO REPOST NEVER HURT NO ONE!
If you've read it before, ignore it, it will go away.
I sure there are enough members that a little repost won't hurt.
And I agree with McJim, if you put something under a stupid title, expect a repost.

What is actually wrong with reposts?
In the site rules there is a section called Netiquette, which the site Mods/Admins have asked people to follow... netiquette includes doing a search to see if something has been posted before... its common internet courtesy.
Secondly this server is paid for, and people who post the same thing that has already been posted again and again, are basically taking up unnecessary space.
Do a search if you are not sure...
Spank has always felt quite strongly about that.

Thanks Joni..it was a serious question and wondered whether it was a space thing.
I vote "No" then although how about we look at deleting 'Non-Bike' bike posts (so as to keep important stuff on site for Newbies etc) after say 6 months which would free up some space for re-posts so keeping the Snipers of this world 'appy.
Will take that into consideration GB
One thing tho, and I say this in jest but also sesiously... I dont think Sniper was every interested in the Netiquette/Space site of things, he is just being a smart arse...:shit:

Ah now I know why you exhibit the characteristics you do.
As for reposts I don't give a rat - if I see a thread and I've seen the content before I just move on - if everyone did the same and didn't scream "repost" in the thread it would soon die a natural death.

You are actually dead right Joni. It started off being an ordinary day where I quickly found out that once you tell someone they have reposted, they tend to get uppity very quickly. Some I have noticed take it to the extreme and complain that Im even having a go at them personally.
Its a bit of fun and games, and I have also started to provide links so that the content may be merged. Cleans it up a bit.
Everyone on this site has something they type of do to keep themselves amused. Finn and Dover abuse the shit out of people, you either take it to heart (which too many do in this case and in reposts) or you shrug and say, "This is the internet" Different story if they say they are coming over to turn your dog into slippers or something. I say repost and count how many folk I wind up.
For all those that get upset about "repost", I have a great Idea. Go to my profile and click, "Add Sniper to ignore list", then you wont need to see or deal with it :D

See, Merv has learnt. I remember when he got wound up over one or two repots. He figures now that either Im a slow learner, or if you bite, it makes it more fun :D

If you bite, then the SERIOUS police become involved and the thread gets relegated to PD.

Nah haven't changed my view one bit I always thought it was a waste of space people typing "repost" and still do, it would be like in a verbal conversation saying "shutup, I've heard that before" - a real conversation breaker eh. At least now I know why you do it.
ps. and personally no worries with me, I never get wound up about anything really.

A quick search reveals that there are 700 posts on KBer with a reference to the term "repost"...not a huge number when you put that in perspective - total threads = 47,551.
Does posting the word "repost" constitute a repost?
Is it better to repost a thread or to dredge an old thread? Both actions seem to attract flamage by some.
As mentioned (does that mean this is a repost?), it's frustrating as hell when people post threads with a non-descript title and then just a hyper link...eg. this one (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=48562&highlight=check+this+out)
How much server space does a repost post use?
How many posts would a repost post if a repost could post posts?
If a repost was posted on KBer, and no one typed repost, is it still a repost?
That's just me being random

I didn't like any of the choices so didn't vote.
Technology changes, the people on KB change, consequently subjects like tyres will crop up again and again. Not always without good reason.
Unless a search uses exactly the right words a previous thread may be missed. If the previous thread was too recent perhaps the threads could be merged?
I seem to recall that happening.
Anyhoo I don't think a barage of "repost" replies is particularly helpful.
And in case you're wondering, so far I haven't been guilty. (Fingers crossed.)

Excellent moderation Joni.
I hate the reposts that seem to emerge as a result of mass emails. You see reposts of news items & jokes when the original posts are still on the New Posts page ffs!

A lot of people don't seem to know how to use the search function and that is why many posts are reposts. You don't have to match the post word for word, but try putting a line or two into the search box (using copy and paste, it's not difficult!) and you'll usually find a match if it has been reposted before. If people change things to make it local it can make it harder, but if you choose the punchline it often come up during a search.
I like hearing new jokes and it's annoying to find a repost of something - funny or not - just months, weeks or in some cases, days after the original.
And I'm stilll with Mr Merde (I think that's who it was) on putting You Tube videos in a separate section.
