And that my Kiwibiker friends is a wrap! :corn:
The SR43B (sounds better, kinda like the Blackbird stealth plane) :) has a warrant and Reg now, the aprilia (with a small a) is running smoothly and is fully legal as well. SO, who needs another bike Huh?
What was I thinking!!
Christmas coming and all that, I need some cash for a riding over the break, so make do....will ya! :done:
This is a good looking bike and the one the WAS parked in the garage next to it is when I took a look this afternoon....:)

Was pretty close to the reserve so he might have done a deal outside of trademe. Will see if it pops up again or not.
Have an old Honda to get going anyway, I'm just being impatient :devil2:
Fuel tanks are not something I would have thought of off the bat, cheers for the heads up.
Fuel efficiency is probably something that needs to be factored into buying these sorts of bikes as well. Didn't think of that with the last one and it's a pain having to refuel all the time.
Anywho, not the bike for me but this looks like an alright buy.

Shhhh! haha
Well the TT600 hasn't popped back up. Might have been a bit big for what I want anyway, that's what I'm telling myself anyway haha. The lead bidder bought that BMW I linked though so it might possibly pop back up after Christmas.
That 650 is too far away to bother with this time of year although it looks like someone is going to get a wicked bargain, even though he has fixed the KM's now ;)
Looking at 2 KTM's (520 and 525) one mid 00's and one earlier, an old DR350 and a late model Kawa 250. Leaning towards the Kawa (it's a hell of a deal) but man, wish I could just buy them all haha. The DR and one of the KTM's is really well set up though, tough call.
Anyway, KM's are high but for something that's just been revinned it seems cheap: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-676919447.htm

What can that do that a TDM can't? Hmmmm? Yeah but nah but yeah, I always find the evolution of Yamaha family's really interesting. Half an FZR 1000 turns into a 750 desert basher turns into an 850 all roader, then a 900, then a 1200.
Oh, I can answer that question, they crash much betterer. Far less damage, manly scarring really, for those bikes.

Mines similar K's & similar condition, er, was. It's due a top end service soon but otherwise it just starts & goes. I considered selling mine but figured I would not get much more than $5000 for it. It's worth a lot more in the shed. The other thing was what would I replace it with which is just as versatile & reliable from the "modern" crowd? Still pondering that question.
There is a lot to be said for a bike which will do 70 kms of very twisty gravel, loaded with beer & wine + a pillion, scrape a footrest on the tar seal bit and arrive at the party with beer still cold & safe to open. Happy pillion, too.
Be interesting to see what that one goes for. Should sound lubberly with that pipe on, too.
Go on, buy it! That would bring the number of peeps I know (of) in NZ to four.
Oh, either that back tire has just been ridden from the fitters or the owner is not one for hoonery.

It's great to be far from the madding crowd with a thumping sound track.

And all the best for 2014 yourself. All expired bulbs replaced and a matched set of BT023's in place.
After the recent resolution of back injury issues, the BT023's have been installed to remove temptation and avoid the necessity of answering the question: A gravel road, dual-purposes tyres, a dodgy back - what could possibly go wrong?

Doubt it, I bet it is that import that was for sale a little while ago.
If there were photos, it would be helpful. Don't know why he hasn't posted photos? but still willing to send?
You get 20 free photos with the listing fee, maybe he isn't locally attached to the bike?
Perhaps you are buying an Orange rick-shaw from Bombay....The new KTM:)
I have asked him for some photos...and mine had actually done more Km's too, but I did install another speedo sourced from Australia that was lower Km's, after the original being Kaput! due to electrical failure.
If it is the bike, the mileage is certainly not correct.

From everything I've read, RXV's are race bikes only and exceptional at that in Super Motard, would be comparable to having a 450MX as a dual sport , Husky TE sounds like a much better Idea, :)

Tell you what... You buy a 09 or later TE450 or 510 now and do a rebuild by the end of October; I'll then swap you the tricked out WR with a fresh set of plastics in November.:corn:

That was Noel.
He threw it over a 3-4m bank, at speed, and whereas the handlebar mounts snapped, it was relatively unscathed.
So I'm not sure that "fragile" is fair.

I'm probably not experienced enough to take too seriously, but, if everything was looked over when it was cracked open at 62 thou I don't see why the milage should put you off. Can you see it in person to go over it? Might be worth flicking Underground or another Dom owner a PM and asking what he would be checking closely on it ;)

So, in your opinion, does it look like a decent machine for the money? .
Check the countershaft, (fr sprocket shaft) spline for wear.
They are a weakness, and the crank case needs opening to replace the shaft.
Remove the sprocket, or at the very least, the chain, and fell for spline slopTM.
Listen for excessive top end noise etc.:msn-wink:

what triboy sez, check the countershaft spline..... just a common thing with owners getting sucked into aftermarket longer life steel sprockets that are harder than the shaft steel so the shaft wears prematurely.

I think the miles are genuine as the bike is being sold as part of a deceased estate, the bike had been under wraps for 8 years and belonged to someone who scored it through the bike industry and never actually used it apart from on his property a few times and perhaps to the shops.
My only concern was in regard to the problems that come from lack of use only.

I wanted the awesome silver and blue XL350, which to me was the most beautiful bike on earth.

Talk to Warewolf. He is the 640a guru. Also Clint640, as his is the enduro version, same motor & frame.
I had one before Gus, & sold it to Taz. It was a great bike, top suspension, good motor. The 640s have a reputation as a shaker. I didnt really experience this. But no good as a pillion bike. There is a lot on info on them on ADVrider (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86958). I recall the weak points being the cam follower bearings & water pump seals. I replaced those at circa 40k
There were 2 being sold in Chch recently via Tme, & this may be the one that has lurked because of the sellers unrealistic sale price expectations. Start price is in the ball park IMHO.
If I were to go back to the 640 motor, then I'd look for a nice 640sx, which is more enduro (lighter) & comes with a better FCR carb & exhaust.
My experience with KTM part supply was also a contributing factor is leaving team orange

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-731363848.htm
Anyone know how long it's been around, had one, how do they handle etc, other bad bits in general? We've heard there can be electrical probs with the oranges?
Your opinions please, thanks in advance.
I've owned a 640E and a 625SXC and I'd really liked them - if you were at the more "adventurous" end of the ADv spectrum and didn't want to do too much road work. They do shake a bit (to what degree depends on the model and milage), but it's a great all round bike with a very solid and durable motor. Clint is another guy who knows heaps about them.
I was interested in that 640Adv and was watching it, but there is something strange going on with the auction. Firstly, the price is a bit over the top, but more importantly there were comments in earlier auctions about work being needed on that bike. Someone who had inspected it made a comment along those lines and the seller said that he would discuss that when you came to look or suchlike.

When I talked with the guy about it a few weeks back he said that he wants 10k for it. I pretty much told him he was dreaming and didn't pursue it any more. But I to saw the comments on the last auction that apparently it would need work to get a warrant let alone be ridden.
On a side note, If anyone knows of anyone wanting to sell a tidy 640 Adv or Enduro please let me know.

followed that bikes fortunes since he put it on TM. He's had two offers for 8.5K. don't know why he wont just say he wont take less than 10K and stop wasting peoples time? The feeling is from the correspondence that's there's something a little "unsaid" about the bike. Hadn't herd the wiring/WOF issue before...makes the 10K even more unrealistic.

Some good comments above. The 640's aren't especially known for electrical problems but the Adv's can have issues with the wires flexing & failing at the back of the ignition switch, a well placed zip-tie or two will prevent that.
Everything you ever wanted to know about 640's: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86958
Dunno anything about that particular machine but for $7.5K I'd be wanting it to be in pretty good condition, at around $10K I'd be looking for a 690 instead.

500, just plain cool, 170kph dirt bike with lights :devil2:
Freeeride, steedy as she goes anywhere but not very fast or for long
Husky, good Price, heavier than the rest but if that doesn't matter to much. bonzer

Yes, suppose some people can afford to lose a few dollars. But would make much more sense to put the OEM tank, carb and pipe back on and sell as LAMS ready then easily get couple k for all the extras separately... If I ever sell mine that's what I'd do.

And some people work pretty hard for what they have
...... and then you have too deal with all the tight wads and multiple auctions getting rid of the extras after bike is gone .
A lot less stress doing it in one hit.

Yup, Basically a DRZ400E, (higher comp engine, Keinhen carb) with just enough S bits to be road legal standard. As a swiss army knife sorta dirt bike they're hard to beat, there's lots of machines that do particular things better but very few that do as much as well for the money.

Funny enough when I blew my stator I ordered one from the states. Long story short the first one he sent me was for an electric start. Even though I have him a par number for a leg start. Apparently they were only sold in the US as electric start.
They were sold leg start without lights or clocks. Or brakes that would pass muster on the road.
I guess they just figured anyone wanting to ride on the road would be unable to handle kicking it.

Good spotting. I had two, sweet engine, forks like wet spaghetti but very forgiving of ham fisted beginners.
Bored and stroked and balanced my second, which turned out well, although it was easy to overrev with predictable results. Think I put three pistons in it. And a cam, they wore out eventually.

Hey Robin, I also had 1 of these as a 16 year old. Mine had a 232cc Poweroll big bore kit in it with a hot cam and a super trapp.:first:
Cam also wore through the head on mine and I had to have a plain bearing inserted into the head for the cam to run in.

Alot of people like looking at my bike  but looking is all they will do because I pick it up on Friday.
Maybe a trip home via Rainbow would be appropriate.

Hoping to paint mine like that if I ever have any money to do anything with it  Was supposed to be rocking around on it last summer.
Price seems a bit optimistic I would have thought?

I actually did the buisiness minutes after it was listed but the vendor left the ad up because he was enjoying the interaction with the punters, Quite a character he is and it was a couple of hours before we dragged ourselves away from his projects and stories.

AT Padmei, AT!! XLV's are cool tho, but as it was I had to talk to the nice lady at the bank after comitting myself to the AT.
Woodman it would look cool in anyones shed....it even looked cool in the vendors shed, but they look coolest out riding and this one has had far too much shed time.

Like I want to be cured?
Got another bike hitting the docks shortly, building sections for a trials bike I don't own yet & hankering after a KLR for some odd reason.
Have to build a bigger shed from donated timber & tarpaulins, find a wealthy widow and get on the sickness benefit.

The only borderline bit is your sense of imagination...:)
If you have some, then it is a GREAT bike for adventures....Just lacking a bit of tank range...
Buy it, nice machines...:drinknsin

Haha yeah only the fuel range is why I say borderline ;) I couldn't make it from Blenheim to Kaikoura on that as is I don't think. There are larger tanks for it however (IMS, $afari).
I can't afford it , not unless he wanted a DR part trade anyway. I do keep going back to look at it on trademe though.

Well, turns out I am gonna buy it! The top box is fukkin ugly...So that will be changed with the nice Givi I have on the DR800.
I might sell off the Touratech boxes and racks, I prefer soft luggage..
The other stuff I can live with apart from the cockpit..., that has to be re-arranged.
I reckon it is a good deal, think of the farkling blokes do for a DR650?

Well, outbid! Went for close to $10,000! It was very nice, clean and looked new. Took it for a ride and was impressed.
When I got home finally, there was an auto bid in place...I took it to $9950 then gave in.
