View Full Version : Cage equivalents of the biking world

Black Bandit
12th May 2007, 21:56
While reading a review recently on the Benelli TnT Cafe Racer, I came across the following:

"A Weapon of Mass Consumption the 1130 guzzles premium octane in volumes only matched by Paris Hilton on a bender or mid-sized SUVs ... with the fuel light coming on around 120km into the 16.5L tank."

It started me thinking, jeez that bike sounds like the two wheeled equivalent of General Motor's Hummer. Come to think of it, it's got a similar paint job and it's blinged out to the max. Now of course most will consider it most sacraligeous to identify such monstrocity with an Italian design, but you gotta admit - there is a resemblance.

So what of it? Nominations for the link between iconic cage's and their two-wheeled equivalent in the world of motorcycles.

Course if you think I've completely lost the plot all together you are welcome to fire away :2guns: :corn:

P.S. This thread is useless without pics

Aww, I don't know ... still an interesting design. It has its moments and it will turn heads wherever it goes. Just look at the cool key you get with it. :innocent:

I would put the CB900 Hornet into a mid-90's aussie V6/V8 category. Strong motor, fast enough to get you into trouble, not out and out sports but you can have a bit of fun getting there. Not much is adjustable and you'd get into trouble if you start pushing it a bit too hard in the twisty stuff.

Sorry to say but the GSF250 BANDIT would be a little like an early Corolla FXGT: wizzy motors that are a hoot to ride/drive, but really they are still a 1600cc/250cc that would struggle against something bigger like your WRX/GSXR1000 combo.

RGV250 and RX7 - Both blow up on a regular basis
CBR1000RR and Honda S2000 - Both are a shitload better than everyone gives 'em credit for (yes, I've owned / own both)
Goldwing and Rolls Royce - big, comfortable, and terrible at corners.

1999-2002 Yamaha YZF-R6 and Mazda MX5

Both really good out of the box packages. Mid-size power with good handling. Both look really sexy with a few after market bits. Either one well setup will give bigger more powerful opponents a run for their money in the twisties... and if you are a guy that rides/drives one all your mates tell you you are gay.

CB250RS and later MGBGT with the rubber bumpers (note: I think the pic is of an MGBGT V8, but I don't mean that model :)).

Low-powered simple low-capacity engine. Not very fast in a straight line, but will corner exceptionally well, despite the age and old design. A bit ugly, with the (rubber bumpers/square headlight+tail), but the (bonnet-line/tank) redeems it. Considered by those with WRXs and Evos to be a bit pointless, but those that have them like them for representing the simple bare basics and essence of (motoring/motorcycling).

Dude I own a Vmax and I've driven a charger. Trust me they are quite simaler.

Decent power stock but almost anything newer can out do it except in straight lines where it will still take out the unwary opponent. But with certain mods can be made into a true monster.

I'm not sure I agree. Different styling; Vmax is super-aggressive dynamic industrial techno stuff; Charger is standard bloated American slab.

Vmax also can go around corners, or so I read somewhere. Charger is strictly a straight-line animal, which wallows around corners like a 70s Kawasaki superbike.

Charger is more akin to some hotrodded Harley. Cool in a bogan-mullet way, lots of power and fat wheels, but way too heavy and disproportionate to handle in any sense of the word.

lol the Vmax is esentiallywhat a horodded harley is mate. The only real reason it handles as good as it does is shorter wheel base with decent-ish rake and trail. Not making long distance calls to the front wheel you know?

Put in the flexible as hell frame, soft suspension, and exhust tube swing arm and the thing wobles all over at anything over 75kmh in 50kmh corners.
It's much better than a cruiser for response and the like but quite unstable in anything other than a stright line at speed.

What are you people on? There is NO comparison at all. Comparing a motorcycle to a car (bleah) is like trying to claim intelligent design is the result of a benign God looking to create the perfect reality for Human Beings.

There's more oxymorons in that concept than the phrase "Baseball World Series".

I thought about that, long and hard (i wish it were true). But i cant draw the same conclusion :(:(.
I know is seems sad - but you have to compare it to the original car.
The original GTI was what? It was a car with a peppy motor, good handling - for the youth who like sports. The W12 version is just like getting a AK47 (fuck off gun) and bolting a grendade launcher (BF motor) on it. The fazer is the opposite - you take a family safe, not too obnoxious vehicle (the GTI was allways a boy racer car) and add sugar....lots of sugar.
