Sunday Star Times pullout...'Sunday' has a page dedicated to a place in NZ to stay for 36 hours......todays issue its 'Greytown'....:gob: Now come on! really? what the hell could take up 36 hours of anyone life in Greytown? at least EK'Tahuna has a massive Kiwi to look at...Everytime i arrive in Greytown form the north or the south, im reminded of the classic kiwi band 'Citizen Band' and their album of from the late 70's...Just drove thru' town...(was that it?) I think the Greytown locals have been on the case of Sunday Star Times for a while now...'come do us, come do us' SST have conceded and gone to do the 36 hour piece hoping it wouldnt take that long. I mean why would it? Greytown is on a par with the deep south township of Milton. Yet another place i have been thru'. Was going to stop the night but fuck that!, went on up to Mosgiel instead....Go do a peice on Gladstone FFS...
Love to all in Greytown...see ya soon....not....Mark

Great food, excellent boutique shops, heaps of good rides ranging from 1 hour to 8 hours, vineyards in Martinborough 30 minutes down the road, glow worm caves, surfing an hour away, brilliant B&Bs and farmstays that are really quiet (good for a weekend with Mom),blah, blah, blah.

Life is what you make it.

Me and Mrs merv stayed there for over 36 hours (3 days in fact) in March last year with the trail bikes and enjoyed it and hadn't exhausted choices for restaurants either.

Between Carterton and Tauherenikau (where they race horse's) so Beigeville is close enough...I have spent a bit of time in those area's 'yonks' ago (i use that word cos' it is still widely used in Greytown) i wont even get into what happened at the Gladstone Pub once but what a fun place that is...

You're missing the whole point; you have to actually STAY 36 hours to get the feel of a place. I have had some great times in Greytown, even in the rain. Mind you, I've never stayed in Milton but I HAVE stayed in Winton, and that was great. We actually chose Winton over Lumsden but I lucked out with the barmaid in Winton. Oh well, not the first time.......

My luck was no better in Garston.

Gaytown is a great place for a coffee.. lots of Welly folk come up. I think some of the locals are bit peeved that they are buying up all the houses, driving prices up and shopping and getting a park at the weekend is terrible. But nice place to stop I think... The White Swan is a good place to stay, kinda up market. I tend to only go to Gladstone Pub or to the Flying Fish in Martinborough personally, but then I live in the Wairarapa.

Gaytown??!! (snigger) Maybe I should paint the bike pink and cruise on down for a bit of man-love? :gob:

I could run for mayor, then we can turn it into Toastertown and make all the parking for bikers only.

(yes I am a silly bugger tonight - must be a full moon!!).

But seriously there are some awesome high speed roads in the Wairarapa. It was always a great ride over the Rimutakas for a blast along the straights.

Not that I am admitting to anything... or the cops I used to ride with... hehe

Thus spake the man from Warkworth.

Exactly...I'm guessing there's a big Asian population in Warkworth, what with the giant Wok they've built to try and attract some tourists.

As for the coffee maha man is still peeved that he couldn't get the stenciled love heart chocolate sprinkles that just "makes" a coffee......
