Hi there,

Long time reader first time writer. I have recently purchased a '93 Yamaha FZX250 Zeal and am having a couple problems with it. It's a great looking bike and runs fine but there are some starting issues. Whenever I turn the key to on, hot or cold, a ticking sound is heard from the engine somewhere and it lasts for about 5 seconds then stops. On a cold start with the choke out the engine will fire up no problems, but when I take it for a spin and come to a standstill the bike conks out and takes forever to start up again. The engine turns over but won't start for a few minutes.

Could this be a start motor problem or is the battery on the way out, or does this sound more sinister?

Any help would be great.

RonR.

That's your fuel pump. No worries. Lots of bikes do a noise like that.

The other conking out problem sounds like something a decent tune-up would fix. Get thee to a decent Yamaha mechanic!
