View Full Version : Huge fine for speeding biker

A Durban motorcyclist, Jan-Hendrik de Vos, was clocked travelling at 295 km/h by traffic police along the N2 motorway in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. In addition, the rider was not displaying plates (gee I wonder why :wait:) and the GSX-R 1000 motorcycle was unlicensed. The Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court handed out the largest fine in the province's history, R102 000 (~ NZ $20 000).
The motorcyclist has been handed a suspended sentence, however, only paying half the fine now.
Should de Vos commit a similar crime in the next five years, he will have to pay the balance of the R102 000 speeding fine.

How much did they spend trying to catch him?
This is the reason for SA's soaring violent crime rate - the cops are all out trying to get revenue from speeders instead of trying to catch armed robbers. New Zealand take note......

Yeah, was wondering about that myself too. Especially without plates, how would they ever have found him? Unless they used a chopper to tail him.

Yes, an indicated 295, which is bs cos there has bound to be sprocket changes to make allowances for, and that really heavy standard exhaust pipe too.
i'd say your indicated 295 would be closer to actual 140.

Police in SA carry firearms. I've had friends that were shot at whilst trying to ride away from the police. Fortunately none of them got hit, but a few years back there was a guy who ran a road black who took a bullet in the back.
