View Full Version : The bike you have loved/enjoyed most
what is the most enjoyable bike you have owned, doesnt matter what year or condition, just the one you have had the most amount of fun on or the one you just wanted to keep riding, might not have been the prettiest, its a personal thing...
and you probably remember it more fondly now than the time you owned it.
i have owned around 27 bikes including dirt bikes but the one that sticks in my memory was my 1982 honda 250 superdream which i used for work, thought i was so fast on the thing when really i wasnt, at the time i had a new 97 cbr 600 as my weekend bike and really didnt seem to be able to go round bends anywhere near as quick, but when i think back it was the noise of the engine making it sound quick:yes: still realy loved it tho.
Well I've only owned 2 bikes so don't have much to chose from but it has to be the 1150 GS. 70,000 trouble free miles in 3.5 years and it just comes back for more. It's done everything from commuting, TT circuits, trips through Europe and blasts around the Kent countryside. I've even ventured off the tarmac on the odd occasion, which is where the one major fault arises - it's one heavy mother. Reduce that weight and it would be the perfect all rounder. Of course me acquiring some off road skills would help as well.

Only relatively new to riding so I've only owned the one bike - 1988 Suzuki NZ250S (pic in my profile). Have to say though it's been a fantastic learner bike... can be hustled along quite well in the twisties but dead easy to ride sedately through town as well. Very little maintenance needed (good for a newbie), cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap to insure... and fun to ride. I'll be happy to keep it until I get my full. :)

Each and every of my bikes I've enjoyed, some for different reason, some for the same. But if I was to choose just one it would be my current steed. I've invested a lot of time and a decent wedge of money changing it to suit my likes. It's a bike I can ride for 40km or 400km and hop off grinning ear to ear, and then sit down with a ciggie and admire the bits I've already changed and contemplate those bits I haven't.

This old girl here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=18278&d=1129879327)
 Bloody good fun old bike, out dated when they were released  flexy chassis, wooden brakes, comfy, lazy on tour, and I hardly ever used the electric start. But it took me on some great adventures :Punk:

I would have to say 2 favourite bikes,an early 50,s A7 Shooting Star, always started, never let me down, handled well through the twisty lanes of Kent,a great allrounder, and for speed and thrills,my 1959 Royal Enfield Constellation,Lots of chrome,Peacock Blue metalic paint and at the time the largest over the counter road bike available in the UK.Allways drew a crowd when parked outside Johnsons Cafe. Those were the days!

Probably my RF900 at this stage, but I can see that either of my two current ones will take the pick very soon if not now.
Probably the Speed Triple.

Well, only had two bikes. I'm in love with my Speed Four. Best bike i've ridden (and i've ridden a few now - my bike shop calls ME a bike whore). Done 44,000km in about 19 months on it and I love it to bits, even when stuff breaks on it (*ahem* speedo just died yesterday).
Dont want to sell it, there's nothing out there that I like more.

Well out of my plethora of bikes I own / have owned, I'd say..um..my RZ500.
The sound of those 4 two-stroke pipes coming into the powerband was something else. You haven't lived til you've ridden one of these.

Same as kiwifruit 'cept it was an 83 I think. I lived to ride that bike aevery day and its probably what kept me sane through some not so enjoyable parts of my life. I still have a "little moment" when I see a lookalike

Well, the GSXR1000K6 was really fast, but I'd have to say the cruiser is far more fun to ride.... tons of torque too :)

Probably my 1955 Triumph Tiger 100 (not bought new I hasten to add:innocent: ). Used as regular transport to varsity, even through snow in harsh UK winters, thrashed unmercifully round the Isle of Man at the 1969 TT on open days, dropped numerous times, including going under a cow (don't ask) and still carried me more or less reliably everywhere for years without getting stranded. Perhaps it's because it was my first "big" bike that I hold it in special affection.

Don't laugh, it was my RG150! The bike I learned to ride on and the one I rode thoustands of kms on. It was my first bike and I loved it to bits. I would find any excuse to ride it and I was sorry to see it go four years later when I bought the F650CS. The Goose is pretty good though, but the RG - believe it or not - had a more comfortable seat!

What's all this, "Well I've only owned 2 bikes..." stuff? Hardly a basis for contributing to this thread now, is it?
The bike that gave me the most satisfaction (and was also the crappest bike I've owned, and the most troublesome) was the XBR500RS Mutant (CB250RS frame, XR500 engine). Never quite got the thing running right, but it cost me a total of ~$600, and that was for paint, new plugs, tyres and sundry stuff. Completely dismantled it, repainted it, rejetted it, etc., and made it mine. It had the crappest tyres (what do you expect for what they cost?) and was a pig in a lot of ways, but it just oozed character and was a real wheelie monster.
I "inherited" it when I was 'between bikes', and if I rode it now, I'm sure I would think it was the biggest pile'o'poo on two wheels.
But I had some fun with it, and it filled the gaping void in my life started by reading a book about a guy that bought a Ducati 900 racebike on a whim.

oh cmon now u gotta tell us the story about going under the cow
Oh all right!
I was coming home from varsity with mate on the back. Going down a country lane not far from home, 2 cows wandered onto the road from an open gate in a paddock and completely blocked the road. Although I was braking heavily, impact was inevitable as they were too close and I managed to get the bike sliding as a precursor to laying it down. Smacked the cow side-on at about 10 mph and it bloody hurt – felt my shoulder pop out, then pop back in. My mate landed on the cow’s back and fell in a heap on the other side. The bike and I ended up under the cow and I remember praying not to get trampled as there appeared to be hooves everywhere.
After the cows had buggered off at high speed down the road, I found that the crashbars had taken most of the impact and apart from a broken mirror and scratches on the crashbars, the bike was pretty much all right. Was able to ride it home but the left hand side of my body was all the colours of the rainbow a couple of days later and stiff all over. A lucky let-off – cows are pretty solid objects!:bye:

I've had a few bikes in my life but the one I love the most and can't stay off and enjoy riding more than any other is my GSX1400.
I just had to knock up 30,000kms in a year and a half on the first K2 I bought
and decided I wanted the latest in black. Only ride it for fun in the weekends and the odd run after work in summer, but I could ride it all day, every day.
They do everything well.

My Honda CM125 was great. Nice riding position and it never missed a beat. Went everywhere on it and passed my test riding it. I expect I remember it more positively than I should as it was twenty years ago back in the UK.

Really enjoyed my first bike, a Honda CBX250. Rode it everywhere but eventually upgraded to something that could handle long trips better.
KTM 640 Adventure is the recent fave. Highly competent and capable bike, soaks up everything, can be ridden nearly anywhere. Strangely it seems a very 'companionable' bike... just seems to encourage you to ride more, chuck it around some more...

When it comes to bikes, I tend to love the one I'm with.
Saturday, for example, I was "in the zone" on the FJR and having a blast. Smooth as silk, torque-surfing around the block. Perfect lines, Avon Storms exquisitely closing the gap between machine and road, no wind, birds in the trees, god in his heaven. Fabulous.
Sunday? I managed to sneak Mrs H's new Bandit out for a bit of a fang -- it was Mothers' Day, after all. Light, compliant, superbly set-up for the type of bike it is. Over the GTOD going flat-out and deliberately taking the long way round corners just so I could soak up the moment, taking corners at speeds I would have backed off on with the FJR. I think I gained some insights as to the appeal of Motarding. One could have lusted for more power and more punch from the engine, but that would then mean that the suspension set-up would have to be completely re-done. Which kind of negates the whole thing really. I guess deep down, my heart is still with the FJR, but that Bandit just reeks "FUN". Whoar!
1979 Kawasaki Z1R this isnt my one but mine had the big tank it was a great bike would sit on 160 ks all day but wouldnt stop in the wet
