CBR400 no spark

Any ideas? it turns over fine, but there is no spark at all

Same as my zxr...... was fried plugs. $72 for 4 new ones and starts up everytime. To get it in i had to take the plugs out and using thinner and sandpaper clean them a bit. It just barley started then. As soon as the new plugs went in it starts first time every time.

Yep Ive said it before on this site-shit NZ feul and fouled plugs sounds like the cocktail you are experiencing. Try the plugs first and if that is your problem change to 91 octane petrol -it keeps better than 96.GOOD LUCK

No spark at all...meaning none from the plug leads (pulled off plug, inserted screwdriver, found an earth... nothing)
and it was running fine yesterday, i went over the rimutukas on it!

hondas. alll the hondas ive had dont like flooding, the plugs foul and then thier never the same again. use less not more choke. If my batteries voltage is a little bit low she just wont fire. she turns over all right but no go. Im assuming this might be because hondas run higher compression generaly and you need more omph to spark in higher atmospheres (can any1 confirm this?)
check all connections. buy a cheap multimeter. thier like a asprin, headaches can go away (maybe thats codein :D)
could your carbs be out of ballance ? I suspect mine are, running on one low rev for ages (trafic) and every now and then ill feel her burble for a few revs, crank her revs out for a mo and its sweet. makes me sweat tho. and makes me wonder if the plugs are fouling. In line fours are a shit load easier to change the plugs on than v-fours. Having said that i always carry enough tools to be able to do it. :sweatdrop

this is probably a dumb question but can some bikes still turn over with the kill switch off? Im sure that happened to me a while ago. bike wouldnt start, turned over but no go. a closer inspection of switch showed it was in off position but not quite cliked down. maybe a faulty connection.

well i have said it before and experienced it on the vt250. Honda's charging systems are shit. Check that your cdi hasn't blown. Also check connectors cause a spike (when riding) could have blown one of the wires(due to it being an older bike)

cheers... I've hooked it up to another battery.. still no go. been over all the fuses.

it was running fine yesterday, all highway home! took off the fairings to clean then rolled it in the shed, not starting it, coz it started to rain... went to ride to work this morning...no spark

Will go over it wire by wire when i get home!

Check your plugs,My ZX7R's problem from last week was solved by a new set,though they were $23.00 each!!!!!!

Alright! I'm now turning it over with the cage attached... still no spark... no voltage from the pulse coils at all... any thoughts?

You probably have to back track it. Check that power is coming out of the alternator (the Reg/rec box input plug) then check connections from reg/rec to cdi etc etc etc and slowly work your way to the spark plug.

Went thru all the wiring.... tightened things... crc'd things...

Dude...

Check your earths... A bit of rust and crap under a connector and..... Not a bad move to check if the ignition earth is expected to transit through the steering head bearings and if so, add a strap!

A clean strap, engine case to battery not a bad move either.

I'll let you know when i'm going to pull the front fairing again... might get a strap when i got to town to get my honda stickers on the weekend!
