View Full Version : Coming off a 3 month licence suspension

kiwifruit
14th May 2007, 11:49
Today is the final day of my three month licence suspension. Yay.
I'm thinking of having the bike all warmed up and setting of for a ride at 12:01 tonight, which is tomorrow (right?).....

How will mr plod see this should he pull me over?

I obviously won't have a licence on me, so i'll get a fine of $50 or whatever for that....
But, would i still be seen as suspended in the eyes of the law?

what do you think?
what about from an insurance point of view?
am i taking the wording to literally?
will the removal of the suspension not be processed until business hours tomorrow?
am i feeling lucky?

Well - are you punk?!?

I think you should go and do a celebratory wheelie or comemmoratory breaking of the speedlimit.

Go on - you know you want to...

If that's your date, I guess that's your date. I'd wait till I got my lience in the mail, or until I know it's comming.

i won't be breaking the speed limit again, i've learnt that leason! I've had the bike restricted to 62mph

Indy, i would wait, but the lady from the ltsa said it will be around 21 days before my licence comes....
i will be down to the AA tomorrow to get a temp job (which the lady from the ltsa said the AA couldn't do *cough* bullshit *cough*)

You don't need to wait till you get your licence back mate, as of 1201 tonight your suspension ends and you're free to ride. Just carry that suspension notice on you (if you haven't already used it to wipe your arse with).

Whatsortacrapisthat?!?
Surely the LTSANZS (or whatever they call themselves) should make sure you get your licence back by the time your suspension ends, so you don't end up riding/driving without one. Or are you supposed to ride/drive for 21 days without one and risk a $55 fine each time?

Mine took 4 days and I had a spare licence anyway so would have been okay if stopped.........just happened that LTSA sent me a second licence years ago so kept both, one for car and 1 for bike.

Yep, its called tax collecting.

You'd get off it in court (maybe) but I bet they go on the idea that no one will go to court for 55 bucks as court costs are 130$.

i'll be getting a 3 monther for demerits soon thanks to a holden that doesn't like slowing down as fast as my corolla (i.e me not paying attention)

To be honest any cop would be a cunt to give you a ticket as you were just off of your suspension (unless you deserved it)... and not that they would care for your opinion anyway.

I was pulled over the day after my suspension lapsed and had no licence on me, i explained this to the cop (probably only a few years older than me) so he checked against my name from an Defence Force I.D and sent me on my way after a short talking to about the passing maneuver he pulled me over for.

Go for it dude... just try and behave

Heya bro - from an insurance point of view I'd wait till I had the license in my hand before goin for a ride.
Because of the bureaucracy surrounding this sort of thing, they would get stuck right in and see what time you got the phsical license taken off you (gay I know) and so forth.

But from a personal point of view, I'd say go out and enjoy the newfound freeness. The cop would be a complete wanker if he wrote you a ticket.

Thanks for that Tim,
I won't be going for a ride at 12:01, the cops round here would send all units....
I will however ride down to the AA in the morn and attempt to get a temp licence :sunny:

Hand yourself in... holding a drivers licence while suspended is court time... Having more than one licence can also result in fines too Grahamee.. but that is a special one reserved for those "special" cases though...

Lets hear from police officers... Patrick, Scummy? where are ya :)

Ring or visit the local station and get them to double check the status of your licence and the suspension end-date. That way you can be sure it is in fact cleared.

Some things are loaded from a certain time of day too - so check that isn't relevant to you. I just can't remember what...

Keep in mind that $55 is $55 and you could spend it somewhere else than giving it to the "Clark and Cullen" retirement fund.... like on petrol for more riding once you actually have a licence to produce.

I'd ring or visit LTNZ or AA and see if they can issue you a temporary paper licence to carry with you while you wait for the plastic photo ID in the mail. You never know - they may be able to do it and solve your dilemma.

Hope this helps,
Toaster.

Is 'snaped' a word? Your grammar really needs some attention too; "shouldn't of" ??? I think you'll find in English speaking countries that it should read "shouldn't have" and getting 'snaped' is just bad luck for the most part; you speed, you take your chances. It's pretty simple, which is lucky for you, it increases your chances of understanding.

Now, isn't it past your bedtime? Grab your teddy, off you go.

just read this post,my better half lost her licence late last year, the guy came round to get said licence from her,she asked to see papers as she was unsure if a couple of demerit points had been placed on the time of offence or when she disputed one ticket in court sometime later, bailiff didn't have any documents so she politely said to him go away sir(yeah right more like fuck off),she still had licence on her, came in handy for id purposes.she never drove whilst disqualified and checked date of disqualification till end and was ok.aparently you don't have to surrender your licence, but youre a dick if you drive when under suspension.

she didn't obtain a licence whilst suspended, just didn't hand it in as bailiff didn't have the correct papers,as she said to lawyer it could be anyone pretending to be from courts.in the end she suffered for 3 months.

I find it funny that you have to ask a question like this. If you get pulled over your going to get pinged again and the cop will probably say you are driving on a suspended liscence. Why not wait a futher 2 weeks, i think it takes that long to get your liscence re-made, and then ride legally?

If you haven't been able to ride or drive for the past 3 months whats an extra 2 weeks going to hurt?

Yeah, i was AMAZED he wrote me a ticket for 89 in an 80..
He didn't say much, just wrote the ticket and presented it to me after asking if i had a reason for exceeding the posted limit etc.
It was the same guy (young, say 25-27) that did me for 111 in a 100 a few weeks prior. He has since left the force i believe.

Well just come of my 3 months Sat (was legal from Midnight Friday). Went for an awesome ride in the Rain down ta Cajun's and back. Totally awesome being legal again. Couldn't get a temp licence cause the AA wasn't open on Sat so just went without it.

2 Things I have learnt:

Don't wait paying ya tickets with the idea of dropping some of ya earlier points. Don't work no more. Demerit points are now back dated to the date of the ticket issue (as it should be) as soon as ya pay it (not the date of payment as it used to be).
Just because ya detector doesn't go off, doesn't mean ya haven't been pinged. The Smart Cop will "POP" ya (flick it on and off quickly) from behind 3 "cages" as ya meet him coming the otherway over a blind hill. Then he turn around when ya can't see him as you ride on @ 100kph to make sure, follow you and then turn on his "Disco" lights when ya in tight corners being good cause ya got him up ya arse. Then he will pull ya up in a dangious spot to give ya a ticket for 116kph in a 100kpm (cause we all know it is sooo dangerious do any speed greater than 100kph).

89 in a 80km/h
111 in a 100
124 in a 100
125 in a 100

what a silly boy, now i have 62mph limiter installed so no chance of it happening again

would hurt plenty!

89 in 80 is a bit of balls! The ticket I got about two weeks ago had check boxes to tick which speed range over the limit you were and from looking at it you had to at least be doing 10 over to get fined and demerited (unless you are by school I guess).

yeah, maybe its 10%?
I'd say they could fine for as little as 1km/h over the limit, i mean, the limit is the limit aye.
Wasn't by a school... was on the map here: http://www.smaps.co.nz/nz/taupo/nukuhau/huka+falls+road/ where the "SH1" label is on sh1 near the huka falls road turn off. Top of the hill as you head north out of Taupo.

Damn straight, never given one but I believe the fine is $30 for up to 10kph over the limit.

Piss off the wrong cop and you might just wear one...

Are there new tickets??? You will get ticketed for 6 or more km over the speed near schools... no tick box for that?

I'm guessing, (as someone said he has since left)... he was newish, trying to impress and was not certified to use the device...

Ditto.. Had a young fella playing up big time in Wellsford, pissing everyone off, and when I told him if that is how he wants to play, I would park down the road from his place every day and ping him for anything over 50, including 51... he changed his attitude there and then, no trouble from then on (ever, as far as I know...). Glad he didn't call my bluff...!!!

So who police the Police?
Would agree with ya actions where the driver is a seriously know problem, but think some of you are getting a little over eager with ya tickets in some cases, and have loss ya ability to think and act outside of the square the Government has painted ya into.
Just my option at the end of the day.

Not all cops are arseholes * pardon my french... some of them just hate bikers but some (from my experience) are nice blokes who understand our passion, and if were not actin like retards will let us be. Like not so long ago while following a truck from a 50 to a 100 ... as the lane splitted into 2 i clipped her while accelerating in order to overtake the truck the front popped up and lo ... there was a copper just behind me ( i hadnt noticed him). he pulled me over after we overtook the truck and asked me what that was for, i told him look mate i wasnt speeding and wasnt tryin to act like a retard, i was tryin to overtake the truk as he was blowin trash and smoke into my face... he agreed after tellin me that i cud hav my lisence taken away and let me off with a "ride safe", I respect such men, reduces my hatred for the men in blue. (he was an x bike cop n had2 bikes).

I like warnings  I like cops who give warnings. U cant imagine what I think of cops who ticket for 5 ks over the limit. Or like recently who ticket 200 bucks for not bein able to read my number plate...(while same week 2 other cops said it was fine)... or who ticket bcoz they have to make a quota / having a bad day / wife not givin them enuf sex. :nono:

Oh wait, no wasnt a tick box. Was a table chart explaining how many demerits you get between what speeds over the limit you were doing. Just looked now :P

My bike doesnt like cruising right on 50 though, gears feel funny sitting right there :(

Use another gear then.
Hell, I have to sit in 3rd gear in a 50 area for it to feel 'right'

The difference being that I don't have the risk of a ticket - hence never have to think of 'batting my eyelashes'.

Not that somebody batting their eyelashes on me has ever worked either....

Why not. If Ya don't have a good reason for the speed, why should you be treated any different. Seeing that speeding is sooo dangerous. Stats show a high number of cops getting snapped by Cameras, I don't think you are as immune as ya think.

Last speed ticket was in 1987, never been snapped by a speed camera ever.

I guess it's a perk to know where they all are eh?:msn-wink:
