I've been deliberating (for over 6 months) on what sort of hemet to buy. Mrs Kendog has kindly put me in contact with someone that will do free shipping from the US, however I still can't decide. I'm interested in knowing how people choose their replica helmets - do you chose based on the rider regardless of how ugly it is, or based on the look? Votes please....

most would pick their helmets on fit/function over form at a rough guess.......

True, but once you know what size and style you are getting you then have the option of chosing the colour/graphic

Get the one with flames on.
Mmmm... fire.... :shifty:
im a plain colour or simple graphic man (but you didnt really have an option for both)
im not really into the bright colours and wild graphics meself, and I'd rather have my own helmet than a copy of someone elses (altho some are pretty sweet)
and, as already stated above - i try try try until i find a nice comfy fit, then choose from the range of colours/graphics they have
with my old nolan i actually removed most of the stickers cos i didnt like 'em, the new one (arriving shortly from the US) is a plain graphite - i really like the matt finishes that are out there these days too
Edit: if i had to pick one of the 4 you have up there, i'd go for the first or the third (have i made your mind up for ya? lol)

Apart from the shit helmets I had in the "old days", I've chosen only two based on graphics. One was when I bought my VF500, and the dealer gave me a discount on helmet and boots. The AGV he had in my size was nice, but it didn't match the red/white/blue of the bike, so he got another from the importer in another colour scheme for me.
I replaced that with a black/silver/gold one when I had my black VFR (with gold and silver accents). That helmet was replaced with one bought secondhand, and it was just luck that being multicoloured (with some red in it) it went OK with the red FahrtSturm, and the blue in it matched the blue in the VifFerraRi.
Sort of.
I'll probably just get something blue-ish next, or maybe silverish.
The problem with doing the colour-matching thing is you can end up out of whack. I decided to buy some Spidi Pro-1 gloves in black/yellow/white to match my black VFR and black/silver/gold helmet, but they looked really crap when I got my red Teknic jacket, and even worse with the red bike.
Best bet is to stick with black, I guess.
I'd like a Rossi-replica helmet, but I've gone off AGVs. I love the features, but they don't fit my head shape very well.
Then there's the "Don't buy a $50 helmet unless you have a $50 head!" crapola (started, I believe, by Bell losing sales to cheaper brands). My head has been over-capitalised for years. If only I could find a helmet for $50....

When you're after a lid, get the one that fits the best, then the one that looks the best ... in that order. If I must have a replica, it would be the one that looked the best, unless I thought that the rider concerned was a cunt.

Shit, what is that? Looks great.
My last Helmet purchase was chosen cause it was the nicest looking of all the cheap helmets. In fact I thought it was nicer looking than even the more expensive helmets. It fit fairly well of course but comfort and low wind noise are a luxury that I had to do without.
I suggest: if in doubt, go for the one with flames.

Yeah I just got the email today from the supplier. The brand is "Marushin" it was a japanese brand which was bought by German company in the 80's I think. They sponsored many MotoGP or Superbike riders (can't remember which) incl the only woman to ride 250cc class.
Its a limited edition which runs out end of this month...I could put an order through if people were interested but they are about EURO$100 ea wholesale +shipping (minimum order and all)
If you bought one retail, probably looking around the $400 mark?

where yo from mate remuera or ponsonby?
gotta have a helmet that looks nice while u sip ur latte? most of those fags wear open faces.
just taking the piss lol
for me it just depends on the helmet, i'm all for great graphics but if the helmets shit i'd rather have an ugly helmet, thatll actually save my head.
i really like the craft replicas of the old simpsons but i also like the shoei paranoia xr1000
i will try the craft on, but i like shoeis, for thier safety etc, but i will definately try the craft to see which is better fit but i think i might choose quality over looks at the end of the day, i might splash out and get a shoei x sprit i would get arai but arai nz supplier is shit, and i don't have an arai head,
basic rule is ur either a shoei head or an arai head should head people also like hjc's.
the useless things u learn selling helmets in a motorbike shop huh.

I'm not too fussed about all the colours on many current helmets, I have to say. I've usually just bought plain white and decorated myself, either paint or tape/decals, although that's a bit limiting due to the naff selection of suitable stick-on stuff you can buy. Current iteration below.
I'd like a racer rep, but old ones, Read, Hailwood, Ago, etc., - the problem being I feel like I'd have to ride like them and feel completely wank never being able to. I like the Colin one, tho', simple and classic. Could live without the stars, true - and there's an AGV I like which looks really nice but has a pretty obvious USA flag spoiling it. Mind you, I probably wouldn't feel that way if it was the NZ flag
Cheers

Hmm, if you had actually read my post (which you quoted) I said "I'm interested in knowing how people choose their replica helmets", at no time did I say "I wan't you to tell me how you chose your helmet so I can chose mine the same way".
I didn't specifically ask anyone to tell me which one they liked the best but as it happens people have, which is great - it's no different from chatting about which bike you think looks the best (or perhaps you think that's pathetic too?). I think you'll find a large percentage of the threads on this forum are people chatting about what they do and don't like, not purely requests for and replies with hard information.
The fact is I've been thinking about getting a new one for a while (whilst saving the money for one) which made me wonder how people choose - I haven't spent the last 6 months sitting in a room thinking solely about this, I do have a life.

Apologies if I caused offence, but the question has no answer: how do you explain personal taste...and how relevant is one persons personal taste to another?
Personally, I couldn't care less if someone doesn't like my bike/riding gear/choice of accessories, 'cos they are purchased with my needs/taste in mind and designed for my sole enjoyment, no one elses.
I'd love to have a pocketful of cash to go and buy bike stuff...I'd revel in it...and couldn't think of anything worse than to have bystanders (strangers no less) offer their largely irrelevant opinions.
But each to their own, good luck with your hunt.
