I have just got my acoustic guitar back from a friend... with broken strings and damaged. humpf. Last time I lend that out.
Anyhoo... suggestions on strings folks?
I usually use light guage electric guitar strings as I like the sound, but they tend to snap quicker because they need to be a bit tighter to stay in tune.
Suggestions on a postcard... PO Box Disco Dans Brain.

Yeahy yeah yeah - the name's shite - but Country Gold. Head on into the rock shop top of K' Road - they have a brilliant range there
Or d'Addadrio (or however you say it). They're good, but I prefer medium to heavy sets - last longer and a more meaty sound.

I presume it is a steel string acoustic guitar????
Yeah light gauge ain't really much good. I suggest using the acoustic strings of medium gauge.
Anything around the $20 mark is usually reasonable quality depending on what you play, where and why.

Yeah has to be steel strings. Hate nylon strings... they go yellow and look nasty, as well as sounding like a cheapo guitar.
Its a nice 'decent' guitar, and sounds great with steels.
I tried acoustic strings, but found electric strings to sound better?

electric string harmonics will sound rubbish.
go for a set of d'Addadrio (spelling?)
and get some fast fret for regular lubrication ;)
edit: 1000 posts ftw

Interesting. Do you run it through an AMP or some sort of sound system?

lubrication on a guitar? ...fantastic :innocent:
I prefer to 'pick' songs more than strumming, just found the electric strings to be crisper? Will give acoustic strings another go I think.

I use Martin Strings on mine (http://www.guitar.com.au/guitars/acoustic/garrison/ag700.html), although it came with D'addario EXPs. There's a feller on trademe that sells them for a good price.

Martin accoustic strings are the best for me - but everyone different. Go for Phosphor Bronze Light Guage. Sound sweet and you can easily pick them

Of note (in case it's needed)... steel strings on a nylon acoutic.... not good. Rippy the face off of it.
I know - you guys all know better than that but... just in case it saves a single guitar out there in guitar land...

The other quesiton is, why did you lend your guitar out in the first place?
This is something Id never do. Instruments are a personal item. People who borrow them dont respect them to the same level you do.
Unless they are musicians themselves, and you know them well enough to know they wont damage it in any way, then you could consider it.
The same goes with bikes too.

Framus Black Rose, wound with flat phosphur bronze wire, smooth as nylon, good for electric or accoustic and great tone. They've been on the market since the 1950s to my knowledge, maybe before that. You may have to order them but Mainline Music on Wairau road can get them.
