Anyone got any cures for being homesick? I miss all my family and friends terribly and wondered besides time if there was any other way of getting over it?

Don;t get me wrong I love spending time with the HB crowd they have been absolutely awesome to me, just miss the fact when feeling down you can;t just ring your best friend for a chat as its too expensive or too far away for that familair hug that you need when feeling like that

Frack Wellington is only just down the road visit them on the weekend... leave friday after work come back sunday evening... its not a bad ride either if I remember correctly :)

as for chating... do it on the net and if it is important get on the blower and chat.... most calls are for $3 as long as you like at present (so I believe)

If you have an 0274 phone you can nominate a landline phone number that you can call as much as you like for $10 per month.

Just another option, keep smiling...:)

Problem with that is that I have only just got my car learners license and my bike learners licesne also....Flying has become too expensive and I live with my Aunty and Uncle and not too keen on owing them heaps of money due to phone calls.

My mobile bill is already $300 per month due to trying to keep in contact

how new on the learners license is new?

well if you can afford $300 a month on on the cell fone... A bus trip probably only costs $60 - $70 a return trip... do the math...

Enroll in a course and learn something useful like welding. Then come fix this bracket for me.

Ok, now its just pointless.

Wellington is not far away, no matter where you live in nz.

Don't spend so much on a phone and go for a weekend every month.

geez louise....

When mum moved from Australia to New Zealand she was homesick for over 10 years... Even now, over 20 years later she still gets homesick...

Home is where your heart is.. Maybe its time to look at the bigger picture..

Home is where your heart is... true... but you don't need to be there. After having in the army and travelled around a bit home has always been Wellington. I've lived elsewhere and will again but I'll always call Hillville home.

Friends family and loved ones you take with you wherever you may roam. Sometimes it's good to be away and realise your independence. Then you know what you can do when you go home, and your perspective changes.

Well fuck that for a start.

You obviously have access to a computer - tried Skype? You can skype to real phone numbers using a thing called SkypeOut. I used it to call a cellphone in the states for HOURS and it cost bugger all.

?? have you money or something???

following on from col,...
my home is where the rain doesn't get in....
and to be honest ... that is being honest,
missing family/friends?....
there are some friends that i would love to see more often... but i know i cannot, then get on with life...
but as i have beeen doing that since the age of 3 ( moving).. one gets used to making new friends and then leaving them behind as one moves.......

hang in there and have fun.. and STOP calling ET so much... take one day and decided NOT to call anyone.. then 2... after a while it will be a 1hr call every 2 months..

Gotta be comfortable with yourself and by yourself I reckon. Take pride in the fact you can stand on your own two feet unaided and without reassurance. You have control, whether you choose to revel in it or shy away from it is up to you. I couldn't wait to have my freedom and I still guard it jealously.

As for the $300 phone bill, that's just bloody stupid if you aren't rolling in cash. Ditch the mobile (except for safety reasons) ration yourself to 1 call a week (on a landline, skype etc) and get on with living your life and enjoying the extra coin in your pocket.

You related to Colapop? He's here in Wellington.

From what I understand of him, he'd ride to Auckland for a hug...Napier shouldn't be any problem.

I know very well homesick since 6 months...
And there are 10 hours of jet-lag between Auckland and Paris..
So the best thing I found: skype and msn, both free, and you can see each other and talk in the same time!
Hard to find the time when your friends and you are connected at the same time etc, but still good to hear their voices...
My problem is: 26hours flights and 2000$ for the airplane ticket...No friends working, so no money, so no trip to New Zealand...

This might sound harsh - unless you can learn to cut away from what you think is home you will always be homesick, make home where you are not where other people are.

You have to learn how to boil them first, cos they hurt more then.
