Thought I would start a new thread seeing as we are getting into the winter weather.

Ride this Sunday, not sure where yet. At this stage its me and Brent. Maybe up north this time? Or shall we join the Sunday Morning Ride over the takas?

Also Stellas is closing very soon, so we have to find somewhere else to meet, I think elle should hurry up and open her Pizza/Pasta place so we can hang out there ;)

Just checked the weather forecast and its has these big swirly blue thingys which must mean wind... Darn it... Most if not all of the rapa riders are busy on Saturday. I might just wait and see what the weather is going to do and post something up tonight/Tomorrow. :)

I dont like wind either.. if the weather is crap might just stay around the rapa for Sunday, meet up with the welly crowd, but you are welcome to join us.

Also I am not sure where else to post this idea, maybe make a new thread.... but I think we Rapa people should organise a trip up north sometime for a couple of days, stay at a motel, or cabins whatever. As usual I have no idea where.. or when. What do ya think guys?

Am I still an honorary rapa chick? (I have nicer leather pants now, lol)

If so... I think it sounds like a cool idea as long as we can get on the piss;

If not... what a shite idea, you should stay on your own patch (and go riding with me!):dodge:

Thats a great idea Mel. I'm keen- weekend road trip

Theres some nice back roads up to Taihape I've done a couple of times- then you can go on to Taupo (SH1- Desert Rd), all very do-able in a day. Taupo Napier home???
Or West coast way- New Plymouth? I haven't been out there yet.

Theres also the Cold Kiwi (http://www.coldkiwi.co.nz/index.php?page=index) on the first weekend of September. But that deserves another trip entirely.

My 2c. Other suggestions?

Lissa
20th May 2007, 12:35
Heehee ok, I am going to start a different thread for our Weekend Road Trip, so this thread can stay as the Weekend/Wednesday Night ride. We got to sort out a date so Elle can come along.. even if its on her little 150... will leave Trudes to persuade her... cause you are so good at that ;). Nigel you are welcome to join us.... we might need someone to drag Trudes out of the gutter.

Cold Kiwi sounds like fun... a little cold, but fun kinje!

Arr thats true... the hippy look! :D

Sorry I didnt make it to your house elle.. riding all day with Ronin has me shattered.

Heres my promised Ride Report:

Arrived at Ronins at approx 1200 hrs. Had a natter and off we went.

Approx 1205 hrs we arrived at the shell service station in Masterton. Fulled the tanks up with gas, checked our tyres, had a natter, a drink and a smoke. Then again off we went.

The weather in the rapa was beautiful.. as usual. The skys over palmy way looked grey and misty. I was starting to get a little worried that RONINS decision was the wrong up... not surprising though.

At approx hmm 1240 hrs.. we arrived at our next stop Ekatahuna. Stopped, Ronin needed to get supplies from the dairy, another drink, and natter.

Then at some stage we stopped again, not sure of the time or even were we where, but we had to put on our extra jerseys, and change our visiors. Ronin telling me, he didnt give a crap if I didnt want to carry on, I was going too.... such a bossy boots!

Stopped just after the Track... and decided to go to Ashhurst to gas up again. The windmills are magnificient.... should have taken my camera.. I am sure I would win the 'Photo Compedition' with one of them it in.

Went through the gorge to the little Cafe over the bridge (no idea what the name of it is) Nice place... nice outdoor bath (have to get myself one of them). Had a coffee and some food. Then at approx 1440hrs we headed home again... Ok so we stopped once on the way home. In all 200kms travelled... not a lot really but I am friggin shattered. No untoward things happening (Ronin was on his semi-best behaviour), practiced my counter steering.. in all a good day. :)

28th May 2007, 10:38
Well, I'm having a great trip so far.

Rode to Wellington on Friday night after work and had a quiet night as there had been a big one the night before and I had to get up early for the ferry on Saturday morning.

Crossed on the 8am Bluebridge sailing. Rode through to Blenheim and caught up with my Aunty and Uncle for lunch. Continued on down the Waiau (sp) Valley to St Arnard- very straight and boring. After St Arnard things got interesting with some exciting corners through to Murchison, heaps of fun!!!

Gassed up in Murchison then headed down to Springs Junction, again some nice corners through there and a quick photo stop at Maruia Falls.

Springs Junction to Hanmer Springs over the Lewis Pass, my my that was fun, again some lovely sections with fast flowing corners mmm.

Overnight pit stop in Hanmer complete with a soak in the hotpools.

Next morning off to Christchurch- some interesting bits but mostly boring long straights except for Weka Pass. Had lunch with my brother in CHCH, then down to Timaru after that. Mind-numingly boring down SH1. Dead straight and cops everywhere :(

Got into Timaru, and shit from family about my hair. Couple of days pit stop in Timaru now with the folks, then on to the next leg...

Lissa
28th May 2007, 11:59
Yay... Sounds like loads of fun Brent... except for the cops and your hair part!!! :Punk: I am not in the slightest bit jealous....

Hows the weather down there? Do they have banjos down there you can pick up cheap?

Have Fun... ride safe. :scooter:

Kinje
28th May 2007, 20:20
Haven't looked into the price of banjoes. Weathers good. Was pretty windy on the Sat and overnight on Sat, but that helped keep the temperature up. Calmed down yesterday and had a cold night and morning this morning, probably going to be clear, calm and cold overnight too.

Looking pretty good over the next couple of days with a big high in the Tasman so hopefully more of the same. Theres a pretty nasty looking front down to the south west tho so will be watching what that does, may make itself felt later in the week.

Have fun back up in the Rapa. Get organised for the KB gathering!

Cheers if you can help a brother out.:niceone: I'd love to get out on my bike but I'm not gonna get pneumonia for it.

:nono: Arrg! Screw it! wrong thread...appologies:dodge:

From what Lissa said in a couple of other threads it was looking ok for today.

Hey rapa chicks and guys. Have a good ride today.

Quick update while I'm checking Haast Pass road conditions and West Coast weather to see how wet we are going to get.

Had a great wee blast down to the Catlins, nice area and road. Rained a little bit over night and had damp and slippery roads so quiet ride to Invercargill, down to Bluff, then back up to Dunedin via Tapanui, Raes Junction, Lawrance, a few oh shit moments on the damp roads- 1st time i've ridden the 600 in the wet I think.

Stayed in Dunedin and caught up with some rellys and friends. Back to Timaru on the Friday.

Saturday- BRASS MONKEY. Wet ride down and pretty soaking by the time we got to site. Set up tents and started a drum fire to warm and dry out. Some time that evening the rain stopped and clouds cleared. After a few drinks 4 of us pierced our ears with our badges- apparently it's tradition. After more drinks off to bed not too cold.

Woke the next morning it had cooled down a lot and frosted. Battled my way out of frozen tent, warmed up again, fed then on the road. Ranfurly to Dunedin via Middlemarch. What a fantastic road! Loved that ride- supreme. Wee break in Dunedin, then up to Wanaka via Milton, Clutha Valley, Alexandra. Another great wee road, but sun had gone down and was pretty cold by Alex and on auto pilot by Wanaka.

Sunny day here in Wanaka now, but I think we are guna get wet up the west coast if we can make it through the reported ice and grit on the Haast Pass.

Nah i set out and got to Woodville and looked down your way and it looked like utter shite! So i thought it's not to late i'll go back cet the car and go down in it, when I got in the car I thought I had better check my rear tyres coz I noticed they were getting a bit lean on tread the other day and sure enough the passenger side stealbelt was juuust starting to peek through. So I called Dusty and flagged it, i'll just have to finalize the jacket via e-mail.
