Front of todays paper shows a Blue and white Jap motorbike got away from the police recording speeds of up to 190km/hr. Quite an entertaining story as they also say that if the rider had thrown it away he almost certainly would have killed himself. (paraphased)
It also goes on to say that it was fortunate that the traffic was light and the rider stayed on the backroads and away from urban areas. I would think this bit was planned.
So who was test riding a GSXR1000 yesterday morning around the manawatu?
And someone's gonna be daft enough to admit it on here?

Record? 190km/hr? Did he throw it away? Did he kill himself? Why did the rider take the roads with lighter traffic? Was it safer to ride on those roads? Hmmm, was the rider actually thinking then? Would he have gone slower on more congested roads? It's so annoying when I hear this propaganda and supposition from the news services (read: police). They're all scared shivering bunnies out there (or at least that 's what the man wants them/ us to be)

I just posted up quite a long post about my thoughts on the media and the way they portray event but my completely shit internet connection has this fucking annoying habit of cutting out just after I type too much losing what I have typed. fuck it.
General idea was that the guy was probably doing 141km when a cop showed up and weighed up the losing licence for 28 days or twisting the throttle. Looks like he made the right decision.
All things being the same ... no traffic... back roads... I cant say I wouldn't have done the same.

19th May 2007, 18:16
if you think you can get away you will try,as said here before at 141km the bikes gone for 30days,the guy obviously thought i'll give it a go and see if i can loose the cop,at a serious fast speed the cops are obliged to give up pursuit if public at risk.most idiots know this so they give the car/bike the boot, then mr plod gives up and no tickets.back in the real world what also can and does happen is these wankers either kill or maime themselves if we're lucky but mostly do the same to inocent people.if the cops are told to back off in dangerous pursuits, why did the press need to be informed, most lowlife people can listen or read so cops are in no win situation.

The 190 was a guess by an onlooker. Apperently he/she/it is an expert at speed testing while travelling in the oppersite direction.
The cops recorded 180kph.
There's a blue and white gixxer in AFC. Maybe the bloke was test riding it...........
I did hear someone on the weekend say something about doing a stand-up wheelie at over 200 when a cop appeared. They pinned it as the cop turned round barrelling smoke and lights blazing. Needless to say, the cops didn't catch up.
I don't know what bike they were on (but, knowing the rider, it wouldn't have been a Honda) or where they were or when it is, but I wonder if the two incidents are related.

I thought '3rd'. New FZR does 125kph comfortably in first.

this is the trouble with sportsbike riders image. Yes the bikes can go fast real quick. Everyone knows that. When I read the article I thought of some guy cruising round the back roads minding his own business tootling along not worrying about much at all and then a cop shows up, guy tosses a coin between running and losing licence. Blasts away from cops and then resumes his leasurely pace.
But even in this thread there has to be those who HAVE TO pull there pants down and blose on about how quick this or that is.
It is possible to ride a sportsbike at a comfortable safe pace without impersonating Rossi. Unfortuntely it is also quite easy to creep up to licence losing speeds also without pretending you are in the MotoGP final.
But the image (supported by this news article) is all about going as fast as you can as long as you can.
