Leaving here 20th enroute to NZ via the Carribean!!!
Have a Honda CB750F waiting to be shipped but not ridden in 15 years so going to get some refreshers whilst waiting for her. Looking forward to NZ roads and getting back to my other home. Look forward to making new friends and exploring the country with the wind in my face.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved. Good pillion if anything going on in June near Palmie and somebody has a spare seat!!!

Kia ora and welcome back to NZ.

Palmie huh! Me old stomping ground... the 'cold hole' as it commonly known as.

There are a number of KB'ers in and around the Palmie North area....
A few even ride up there from Wellington in the weekends.... I guess to get away from all the wind down there way.....

Good luck with your biker refresher course.... Just take it easy til you get to know the roads. Ride safe.

Why Palmy?????????

From the day 1 I got to palmy, the only thing I've been looking forward to is leaving palmy..... There are lots of better places in New Zealand to live in.

Welcome Sarah from the first of the Palmie KBers, what brings you to these balmy climes ? Bonez is the resident expert on old Hondas and the roads around here. I am sure he will make himself known:scooter:

I'm guessing that the fact that Palmie has the only vet school in NZ has something to do with it if you look at her name

Welcome to the nuthouse of KB, don't let them put you off, although you're arriving in time for winter. :cold:
Hope the refresher course goes well & you get time to travel both islands.
If you are a vet, all the overseas ones I have met here have a ball touring the country while locuming- & there are a few VN's who ride.

Hi all
thanks for the info and hellos. Carribean was bliss. Bad roads for bikes though, think I only saw one.
Palmie is the place for me due to the job but love the wilds of the south island too.

Will be on KB more regularly now and have some related shopping to dfo. Bike probably not going to get here before my short 2months in Auz but hopefully the weather will be better when I get back. Look forward to getting on some rides and meeting you all.

Sarah:

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to NZ.

If your bike hasn't been ridden in 15 years make sure you do at least buy some new tyres. It's probably a very good idea to get a bike shop to give it the "once over" and check things like brake cylinder operation or lack thereof due to perished rubbers or rusted pistons and check all of the normal things like air filters, bearings etc.

You'll enjoy our roads although some can be a bit rough, deceptive or have slick surfaces. Many are tree lined and therefore are shaded from the sun to some extent and don't really dry out properly. Watch out for brainless idiots on the roads, we have one or two there :) Oh, we also have animals of various sizes on the roads occassionally to - possums, wallabies and if a farmer has neglected his fences (it can happen) maybe a cow, dog or horse. With the small ones you might get away with a "brace and run 'em over" but obviously a bit trickier with the bigger ones! Same rules apply in the UK I guess, be alert, treat cars moving into your path as possible assassins and be ready to react....

There's lots of good riding out there. I hope you have fun exploring.

Cheers

P.S. I need a rider (a legal thing) but I'm in Melbourne :innocent:

hiya, welcome aboard and stuff

Hope Bahamaston North's not too much of a let down - although I'm thinking given the choice between Palmy and the MFUK you might still've got the sweet end of the deal :)

Yes that is indeed a plan, I've already got all my moving scheduled to the great north shore. Bloody massey is holding me back longer than I want but at least the end is in sight...
