Well, you buggers scooped me (a local) on this one! Just opened up my computer (Friday morning) to Superbikeplanet, to find:
News emanating from the Sears Point/Infineon paddock this afternoon is that Kurtis Roberts will not be racing for the team any longer this season.
Team sources say that New Zealand rider Dominick Jones is now a Team NFS rider.
Also, Jett Chandler, son of three-time US Superbike champion and Grand Slam Club member Doug Chandler is lapping in practice today.
All I can say is BRILLIANT! Hard work pays off. I guess the team isn't called 'NFS' for nothing though, so it's not as if he'll be on a salary, probably, but should take a bit of stress off, having technical help and being associated with Doug Chandler, who is a genuine good bloke, I think.
Cheers

For anyone that doesn't know the history (because I didn't), here are some other posts about what Dom Jones has been up to.
Basically he has been driving all over the US with Van, Bike, and keeping his head about water where ever he can! ...oh and doing well....

Just read news Kurtis Roberts, the guy Dom replaced, will be contesting 2 rounds of MotoGP coming up.
Yep so dom replaced a motogp rider aye? Hehe.
I see that in the results he got 21st in the first race and 16th in the second. Quite a big improvement between races, lets hope he can break into the top 15 or even top 10 next meeting. All eyes are watching.

Dom rang bout 2 weeks ago, tired but pretty excited. He's just got back to base in San Diego after riding 7 out of the last 9 days. It seemed after rnd 3 AMA at California peedway he was approached by NFS Racing, a privately funded (non factory) team. He spent a couple of days testing at Button Willow. All good and Doug Chandler really helpful, in fact the whole team really great. Then as he packed up "how bout a few more days, at Infineon, where we'll be for AMA Rnd 4 in a few weeks?" So off he goes up north of San Francisco. More good testing. All new stuff. Full Superbike spec, own mechanic, data logger and traction control etc. All the new goodies to learn about! Pit girls might be next. Again, Doug the leader, Dom going well not too far behind. Cos Curtis Roberts was on the way out, all was kept quiet till after Infineon. A good idea to concentrate on the doin, not the talkin!
Infineon went well for his debut, good solid result with a good step up on Sunday to 16th. The important thing he is 16th, and the group ahead of him right up till 12th are beatable, only 6 points total gap. Beyond that, well, if he get on the back of this group he's really smokin. In order, Mladin, Spies, Duhamel, Zemke,Hayden, Disalvo, Bostrom, Yates, Hacking, Ellison, Haydon.
Yep, he's knockin on the door....

He'll be stoked, wasnt long ago when we were all saying that it wouldnt be long until someone like that noticed him
Thanks for the update pete, such awesome news. Is he still going to continue to race his gixxer at other club meetings or only racing the cbr for the NFS team at AMA rounds?

Pretty sure he'll back out of his regional racing stuff. Best to concentrate on his new team effort. The original scheme to travel all over and ride for money is flawed in that it gives no opportunity for developing the correct type of fitness. In the 5 weeks I was with him last year it was non stop,
and after he did a 30 hr straight drive to Mid Ohio later in the year, he knew it was just killing his ability to perform. He's based on a ranch in San Diego
now, and talking of getting a mountain bike, getting into regular training with swimming too. Hanging onto a 200hp Superbike for 40 mins at 35 deg and high humidity takes some special fitness.
If anyone wants his Suzuki, just ask him! Here is an opportunity for a NZ'r to go over and get moving. All the planning is done! He might even chuck in the "highly experienced" Chev Astro.
What an inspirational story Pete, thanks for that...
And what a great offer for someone who wants to ride over there, good on you guys!
I presume I will see you tomorrow, look forward to catching up.

Marvellous result for his first race weekend with the team, and on a CBR1000 instead of the Suzuki too. I was very stoked seeing his name run across the top of the screen during the race broadcast, it's great to have someone in particular to look out for. They did show a bit of Chandler in the first race, no #68 tho', but that'll come, I reckon. In fact, the race broadcasts are pretty crap (but aren't they all!), however, Freddie Spencer will pick up on the Honda riders (not that he's biased or anything  ) and I reckon Dom will get a mention from him.
There is a LOT of depth in AMA, just a pity Mladin and Spies are a step ahead still, but look at the blokes just behind them and there's not a slouch amongst them. Dom will be hanging right on the back of them in a few races, I reckon, and in with a chance of mixing it up a bit.
It's great to see him get this opportunity, much deserved. And now to have time to train is a bonus, instead of driving and preparing bikes and not having any training schedule. I'm sure there'll be a difference just from that.
Cheers
Barry
Hi guys, it Dominic here. I finally signed up to this forum and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the support and kind words that have passed through this forum lately. The weekends results were promising but hampered by a personal injury that I've been carrying of late. We really should've finish top 15 in both races but sometimes that life and we are just working towards a healthy arm for Road America in a week.
So thanks again for the support and I shall start talking abit more on this forum when I get the chance.

No, that's Jett Chandler, Doug's son having a ride on the Thursday before Infineon. For a photo of Dom, go to www.superbikeplanet.com. Photos of Infineon / thursday. The guy with Dom is crew chief Gary Medley. I don't know how to copy over to here etc, maybe someone a bit more skilled than me could! He's at Road America, Wisconsin right now. I seem to recall something about the NFS team not racing at one track (due to their fuel tanks being too small or something) so it could be something to do with that. Lets hope its just a small glitch.

Dom, you crack me up.........
Hey all
Well since the last round of the AMA Superbike Championship at the start of June, life has been pretty hard. Seeing my reliable transport die a slow painful death in Wisconsin, I was left stranded with my mate in the pit of society, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This place made Invercargill feel like heaven and smell abit better too. But after 2 weeks of studying Rambo, Rocky and Bruce Lee trilogy's, times were a changing and off we left for the nice dry air of Utah.
Well it ended up that I was back on the old Suzuki for the Utah round of the AMA Superbike championship at Miller Motorsport Park. Life over here is like a T.V. show and the way this team is rolling keeps the trend intact for the minute. So the team had took a split and each owner decided to go their separate ways. Suck thing is they decided this two days before the truck left for the track and the side of the team that I ended up with got the two unprepared bikes with the split. So, luckily the woodshed had took good care of the bike and all was go.
Friday ended up o.k. I was struggling abit getting use to the battletank again which was quite a wee way off the animal Honda which had been carrying me around the track of late. By Saturday morning, I had ended up 23rd on the grid bringing along some little niggles with me into the race. Saturdays race went o.k. as I picked off a couple of people and worked my way into 15th by the end of the race. My issues from earlier in the weekend were still an issue with a rear end that wanted to chatter on the tip in until the apex causing some interesting moments.
Sunday brought more nice weather like the day before and the day before that. Nice and dry with temperatures in the mid 90's (33C) and a light breeze. Sunday morning in warmup, I came back out of the pits after trying some stuff and down I went like a drunk sailor on the Titanic. In the end I had turned in alittle tight and clipped my footpeg on the curd causing the front to unload. After getting out dust cloud and watching my bike untimely fall to bits in front of me, I realised that maybe I'm just not a June kind of guy. Well, it ended up that my mate who I had been hanging out with for the last two weeks had his Suzuki hanging around so after alittle arm twisting and what not, he said "Yeah, why not. Whats the worst you can do". So for the race on Sunday, I rock up to the grid on my mates semi stock bike which now in turn made mine look like an animal. Oh, how the times were changing. I took it easy off the start and slowly settled into the race passing a few here and there over the 21 laps. On the 2nd to last lap, I had worked my way up to 17th and with 16th right in front, I tipped it into a 2nd gear left hander. Around came the rear, caught and after a short career in space travel, I landed on my nice padded ass sliding off into my new home, the sandpit.
Well, crashing seems to be becoming a bit of a hobby of mine lately and hopefully that hobby soon comes to an end. I even crashed the other day going for a walk. So with abit of a break racing until the Moto GP round at Laguna Seca later this month, abit of time out sounds good, and with the hot weather out here in San Diego, anything other than hanging out in the pool sounds out of the question.
Well better scoot.

shit we better start calling you 'crash' then :dodge:
How do you crash when walking?? so far van-bike(s)-walking... whats left? ;)
Tis amazing what you can do on an almost stock bike, nice of him to let you use it, shame about the not so nice ending. Better luck at laguna...wonder if we get to see any on the box over here
