I can't believe you chose to come back to NZ in Southern Autumn. You just get through a Yorkshire winter just in time to face a Christchurch winter.

Perhaps they are like Sarge, and are in the special forces and have just begun a tour of Afghanistan or Iraq. (just speculating about Sarge by the way).

No, I've been back in New Zealand about a month now... and UK -> NZ isn't as bad on jet lag as NZ -> UK, so I only took a couple of days to get sussed.

I didn't really choose to do it that way... my partner's secondment for work was the beginning of January to the middle of April. It's basically how audit works - wherever you are in the world, it's always the busy season in winter - which is why the secondment term was Jan - April. It was a bit annoying for us... missed out on the (by all accounts, pathetic) NZ summer for a UK winter (we were in Scotland in December! :cold:), and then just when it was getting nice and warm over there (24 and beautifully sunny in London on the day we were leaving)... we have to come back to NZ. Sigh. Next time we go over it'll be on our terms!

Yeah I've noticed many of the good old regulars from way back seem to be evaporating into the internet ether. Or just found a good pub with no computer. Whatever happened to sk8rboi (something like skater boy anyway) he was the founder of "parking your sprotsbike in your gargre" and other great spelling errors.
