View Full Version : 250-themed ride - All welcome - 20 May 2007
McJim
18th May 2007, 14:33
Easy paced Sunday run - we will split into groups based on ability and attendance. (I don't like riding in a group of more than 7 personally).
Unfortunately with littlies (at the babysitters) we can't commit to spending all day out on the road so the run will probably be between 200km and 300km.
Leaving at a reasonable time of day (for those of us nursing a Saturday night hangover).
We will meet at 10:30am BP Botany - corner of Ti Rakau and Chapel Road.
I'm no longer on a 250cc bike so all comers are welcome - if you're gonna hoon however please do it away from noobies and learners and the rest of us. Basically if you want to hoon I would suggest that you wouldn't enjoy the company or the ride.
See you Sunday

I'll wait until all the 250 riders are back from Uni/School then.....

Yup - we'll be taking it easy - I've only had my 600 for 3 weeks. Don't want to bin it yet coz the Italians charge a few bob for shipping fairings.

Never underestimate a 150 - this is the lesson I learned fanging the tits of my wife's RG150 - it's only about 10kph slower than the Ducati at full noise. :scooter:

Im looking to do an easy paced run breaking the noise barrier only on occasion... just to get a nice feel for my bike... will there b many twisties im sweet on the straights... cheers.

It'll be sweepers more than twisties this run.
Speed is all relative - I don't expect us to ride in a big formation but we will wait at junctions to make sure we all get to the destination for some grub and to talk bike shite.
A good pace for 250s and people with bigger bikes they're not quite used to yet.

What is the large group phobia all about?
If you're keeping as a group, it is much harder to keep track, if leading, that all your little followers are in line, generally, a group of 6 is about right, with tail and leader included, if you have to keep a close eye on the tail.
Some people also simply don't like big groups, and possibly feel under more pressure. Its also more confusing, as there can be bikes all around you, etc.
Really, its about doing whatever you feel comfortable with, and enjoying the ride :ride:
Winter
19th May 2007, 16:29
Ah yes, I can see the problems it would cause for leader / tail end charlie.
Guess we can assess the situation tomorrow. right now, I'm going for a ride!
Well ain't that a waste of syllables.
Hey Jamie, we will be in Papakura about 10am tomorrow so will txt you when we get there and see what your plans are ie: which way you are going? cos if you dont use the motorway apparently you should go past the Bass's house which is where we will be drinking coffee and attending to something static....

Yea I agree, Im not phased with having bikes around me as long as they don act like muppets and put me or the team in danger its all good. Its just that with bigger groups we hav to keep makin pit stops to check where the guy on the 50 cc scooter went off to n perhaps retrace our tracks if we dont c him.. has happened before .... and it sorta takes the adrinalin outa the ride 4 me atleast.
c u all tomoro at 10.30 then...
Ps: whr at exit do i take closest to oumeetin point coming down the motorway from albany ? thanks. also anyone else goin down to botany from albany?? text me my no is 021 605 875 anytime we cud ride together. :) Raj.

Definately won't be taking the motorway - that squares off perfectly good tyres!
We will be taking a short tour of the Hunuas (where you don't have to break the speed limit to have fun!) and coming into Papakura from behind:gob:

probably the SE highway, is the easiest to follow. Take that, hold left, and follow it all the way through, over a bridge over water, to a big intersection. Turn right, and keep on going until you hit a big yellow pak n save off to the right. Go through a couple of sets of traffic lights, then turn left, before a housing area, and you'll have bp to the left...
Google chapel road, if you want, bp is on that road, same area as botany town centre.

Haha, not sure I could claim to have ridden well enough to have to "learn to ride well again", but yeh I know what you mean, I had some real fun moving from a GPX to my old VFR400 (Ah, the VFR... boy I miss her). To be honest the move to the 600 has been far easier to "deal" with.

Maverick's weather genie worked wonders yet again - shame about Maverick's sidestand Genie being on holiday - oh well.
I lost about 10 riders (I was never lost - I knew exactly where I was the whole time!)
Good to meet some new faces - look forward to seeing you fellas on some other KB rides in the future.
Will probably miss out the "250" next time I organise a ride since there were only 3 250's and a 150 out of 13 bikes!
Cheers all,

As one of the few 250's and TEC I had a great time... today's ride saw a large jump in my cornering confidence which has been virtually non-existent since coming off a few months back.
Was a bit worried when a lovely 2007 R6 ground to a halt just after the lighthouse, had visions of pushing him back 35km to Waiuku, but luckily everything was sorted very quickly. Nice ride Raj :)
P.S. Grahameeboy has added more droolworthy bits on that sexy red SV of his too

What everyone else said! :stupid:
Beautiful day in the end, not to hot, not too cold.
Big Bling for McJim for "not getting lost", but more so for taking the time to talk with me in the morn and give my bike the once over.
The bit of extra confidence gained from that was evident in my very much improved cornering - much more relaxed and in tune with my wheels.
It was a beautiful sight coming around some of those corners to see 12 bikes lined up along the side of the road.
The SV1000's, Gixxers, that 5 day old R6,
My sympathy's to ??? with the ZZR400? that took one for the team, to get the gate opened.
Thanks to Raj for that fucking awesome display of recovering from a slide into the ditch! Twas the highlight of the trip - only because you came out on top!
And thanks to those fast fuckers at the front for letting me think I could keep up with them - if only for a minute.

Hehe Nice riding man, I was like so scared when i went into that ditch coz i was doin atleast 65 odd ks... Ill explain now: I was lik lookin into my rear view mirror to see whether all the bikes were still there then the 250 in front of me banked sharply to the right and I was still plodding along going straight.... then I looked up and I was like WTF and banked hard to the right but unfortunately it wasnt hard enough to cut the corner went into some loose mud .. remembered not to touch the twin discs.... and keep my feet on the pedals which was the hardest bit then put her down to 2nd and slowly raised her out ... all this while still sliding sidewards :dodge:... god saved me ! lol was abt to drop a 5 day old R6 ! nooo I wuda cried really.... you know... this has to be one of the best laughs I have had on KB EVER. :killingme Seriously... I am not fast. Was a nice quickish cruise, and playing musical bikes, you think I was going fast, when I was on someone else's bike (or you mixed riders and bikes).
As I pointed out on the ride Raj, and Karma has pointed out, never travel at someone else's pace. If that guy goes too fast, and crashes (like people do), and you are following him, because you think what he is doing is ok.... it gets messy, and a number of riders have been caught out like that.
Before back fire etc get here (they will have a field day)... I am not fast... really... Graham... yeah mate, didn't want to leave you behind, what with you following our little "detour", and you being the only one knowing about the pub :dodge:

Ixion you miserable bugger.....you give me stick online and ya turn up wearing a gay yellow vest and ignore me.......:innocent:
And clean your bike.....tis a disgrace...........that's all I have to say.
He wears it (and the white helmet) to mislead car drivers. I'm sure I don't know what the car drivers think but Ix says they get out of his way and never give him shit - 'specially when he's on the Uberfarter (BMW)

Here:
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2007-5-20&e=1282&c=1
There was an Event and a Thread - I tried. Would have been useful to have you join us coz poor Ixion was a bit jittery about the fact that we had 13 riders.
Ah that may explain it. I never pay attention to the calendar, just the threads. Ah well! ...and I was on a sensible bike too. Lovely Triumph America.

NEGATIVE ! I wuda, but just got her insured with kiwibike n the brokers told me that if anyone rode it n it binned I wouldnt get paid 1 dollar even n the other dude would get charged for careless driving most likely. U want a pillon ride lol!

So is there no truth in the rumour that Yamaha have "dummed down" the throttle response (I heard you give it a twist and there's a little delay as if to say "Are you sure that's what you want to do?" before the throttle electronically opens).
Or is that the new R1?

what was the price from kiwibike in the end?
Cr1MiNaL

Harro Jimmy !
No thats not the case with the new R6's u just hav to touch the throttle n it leaps almost throwin a rookie like me off if im not crowched up on the tank... thats y im weary arnd corners too if im in a lower gear.... that I think is for the 07 R1's maybe coz of their huge bhp rating... the second highest in the litre category. even in 6th gear as soon as i nudge the throttle she leaps, u dont even need a twist.... on the ride we just had i hadnt even opened her 1/5 th of the way n was already exceeding 190 ...
Cheers Raj. (ps any more gatherings u organising soon? was nice).

$82 monthly or $20.5 weekely or $920 yearly all up one payment. That was with my 2 years no claims bonus and the tripple immobilisers that the bike has. my security cams meant nuthin to them.

I too must await the accumulation of brownie points El Dopa.
I just chucked this one out there coz people were asking about a 250 ride and Justin was going a bit too far for some and on a Saturday too.
I made this one up as I went along which is probably why it all went tits up towards the end! I shall endeavour to plan a bit better next time.
Chickadee will be off for the Girly Coffee Ride in early June so maybe after that I'll have enough points to organise another one.
It's easy to do though - some of you other fellas should have a go - especially if you actually know some roads.

It did not go totally tits up mate, you all went out riding, got a bit spread out, the main group stayed together and watched out for each other, you got to stand on the side of the road with no cell coverage for a while :innocent: and talk shite to some other folk that just happened to be around the place, everyone found the end point and looked fairly relaxed when we arrived. Sounds like a good ride out to me. Don't listen to the shit stirrers around here.........:innocent:

Well here's me 3000th post (well 3000th that hasn't been sent to PD!)
Who knows some of tonight's work may be consigned to PD before too long.
I promise to organise another run within the next 4 weeks - I'll drop the words "250 theme" but speeds will probably be on the slow side for many sportsbike riders.
Personally I like the balanced mix of 250s and bigger bikes in the hope that some of the bigger bike riders can give encouragement and impart some wise words to noobies.
Also there is the fact that I don't want to lose my licence or scratch my bike.
Will scurry off and look for a calendar and practice the puppy dog pleading eyes to ask for a day pass.
Will now rest on my 3,000th post with a little holiday from KB.

Never fear, a date will be arranged soon.
This weekend (26th/27th) the house needs a bit of tidying up so bike riding sadly will be off the agenda.
We've just got sprogs (3yrs & 20mths) to work around and both of us like to ride - so we have to barta with one another. Nice when we get babysitters so we can both ride - woot, even if I'm a Nanna compared to McJim, I still have a nice time out on two wheels.:Punk:
