Well what about porangahau. Some Welly hard core might join in as well. Or did you want something further afield?
Well that might be a good place to go for a day ride... say one sunday maybe  Was thinking of doing a over nighter a bit further a field for the Road Trip Jimbo.
Is this when I'm meant to start persuading people to come Mel? What do I promise?
Elle, I promise to wash your custom shield if you come.Heehee its ok Trudes, I wont persuade her to come, we have already come up with the plan that she makes some pizzas for us to take with us. :D
can anyone come??????Well ... I dont see a problem with other people coming CF. But if a whole lot of people want to come, I dont really want to be responsible for them and booking accommodation, and for their safety... esp around the KDs (but really, Iam a slow rider, and its just going to be a cruisy ride). Then there is the fact you would have to qualify as a Rapa person, which involves alot of drinking, banjo playing and dancing the macarania.. :D P/T
This is what we are thinking: Maybe leave on a Friday, go up either New Plymouth way or Taupo. Stay a couple of nights, riding some roads and head back Sunday. Thinking maybe in July sometime? Sound good so far?

ah... I haven't had macarania cheese since I left England!
Macarania...opps I meant the Macarena!! Will be testing everyone... and marking.
Instructions:
1. One places his/her arms forward, palm down, right arm, then left arm.
2. Then the dancer turns his arms over so that his palms are up, right, then left.
3. The dancer puts his hands on his shoulders, first right hand on left shoulder, then left on right.
4. Then the dancer puts his hands on the back of his head, again right, then left.
5. The dancer then places his arms on his hips, right hand on left hip, then left on right
6. Then the dancer's hands go on their respective hips (or pelvis), right then left
7. The routine finishes with a pelvic rotation in time with the line "Ehhhh Macarena!"
8. Then the dancer turns 90 degrees clockwise and repeats the same motions throughout the whole song.

Lets try to organise to go to the Cold Kiwi in September... heaps of time to save up... get thermals, tents etc.
As for the road trip... still havent come up with anything as of yet!

Did the Cold Kiwi last year, and it was good fun. Cannot make it this year as will be back in UK. An overnighter to New Plymouth sounds interesting though, as not really been over there yet.

Got lots planned guys and girlies.
1. Got to orgainse our little Road Trip up North.. probably Taupo.
2. Cold Kiwi in Sept (will make a new thread sometime about it)
3. South Island Trip in the summer some time (maybe just for a longish weekend)... combined with the KB get together (if they have it in the rapa) in Feb.
Kinje
11th June 2007, 13:51
Sounds great Mel. I'm keen for all those, and let me know if ya want some help organising- tho I think you did say I was the South Island chief organiser or something.
And here is the Cold Kiwi (http://www.coldkiwi.co.nz/index.php?page=event) entry form and info

Well... you are the Up North Organiser too remember. Should be easy to organise.. just need to book cabins/whatever in Taupo prob, we just have to pick a date.
Cold kiwi.. easy, just need to buy myself a tent.

well after doing turangi can highly reccommend the venue, roads (did not test the hot pools but the others did) .. & that has more appeal than taupo ...
Kinje
11th June 2007, 15:40
Yeah. I stayed there a couple of nights in my tent at the camping ground near Burger King. They had cabins and stuff there too with spa, bar, restaurant. I tried the hotpools up at Tokano (sp) just up the road and was a nice soak.

Can highly recommend Extreme Backpackers too. I don't recall them being too expensive. They have a climbing wall as well and they are an easy walk to the shops which is v-cool.

11th June 2007, 15:55
& i know 86 can recommend club habitat .. has its own bar where they love to stay open all hours of the nite .. pretty much everything on site .. depends on how much you want to spend, & if you want simplicity or expense ..
But I LOVED the roads up there .. that was awesome ..
Kinje
11th June 2007, 16:08
Club Habitat- I think thats the place I stayed and had a great night in their in house bar. Yep, stayed open very late and enjoyed a drink or many with a few locals and guests. The barman even used to rebuild CBR250's so we had a few yarns about that too :)
Roads are nice. Rode up there from Mstn through some back roads as far as Taihape, then Desert Rd to Turangi overnight. Round the lake and stopped at Tokano (sp) Hot Pools then another night at Turangi, short hop through National Park to overnight at Whakapapa (tenting in DoC site, not the fancy lodge), then down SH4 paraparas to Wanganui and back to Mstn.
Could be a good plan

See this is WHY you are incharge!
I wouldnt have a clue where to go... as long as I dont have to sleep in a Tent for this one, and there is a bar, I will be happy.

Whoooo cool, well if he has a batch in Turangi would he mind us using it? check it out Mr Trip Planner Person. :)
Kinje
11th June 2007, 21:55
Yes he'd be happy for that. And he'd be keen to come up with us. Staying in his batch we would want to limit those staying with us, though I guess others could organise accomodation elsewhere. We just need to organise a date then we're good to go probably. Are we thinking winter, spring, summer?
The other consideration is Murray has his bike for sale so not sure how much longer he will have it to ride with us before it sells.
Cold Kiwi is last weekend of August, so how bout mid July?
Just over a weekend? Up to Turangi Sat (~300 km), home via Napier (~420 km) or Wanganui (~340 km trickier) or backtracking on Sunday
OR- Perhaps take the Friday avo off work and ride up to Turangi, round Taupo on Sat (~200 km), then back on the Sun
I'd probably prefer Sat and Sun only.

We are probably looking at going up through Fielding, back road to Taihape (Cheltenham, Kimbolton...). Then Desert Rd to Turangi.
Hopefully on the Sunday it will be nice and we can ride up to Taupo-Napier then home.
Like Lissa said, others are welcome to ride with us but you would need to organise your own accomodation. And of course once in Turangi we could all spend the evening at a pub somewhere for

Hondas have high standards so you being a Suzuki rider wouldn't be worthy.

Hehe- quite fitting- I've just been reading the Americas Cup thread in Rant and Rave and theres talk of Brad Butterworth and Russel Coutts switching teams...
Sorry KD (I actually don't mind the switching- TNZ=>Alinghi (They're proffesional sportsman and had done all they could with TNZ), Honda=>Suzuki :whocares: )
Back round on topic- yeah I'm really looking forward to it. Should be a great weekend *prays for fine weather*
Murray spoke to his folks last night and checked batch is free which is good and he's getting the keys senty down.
Not sure if I put this in PM to everyone or not but:
The batch has 2 rooms and a lounge and a sleepout.
1 room has 2 single beds, 1 room has a double, and sleepout has a double.
Bring a sleeping bag coz we don't want to have to deal with cleaning sheets yadayadayada.
There should be off street parking but may not be enough room in garage for all bikes, perhaps bring a lock if you have one.
More details will be posted as they emerge

Or, if you need to avoid the Desert Road, you could go across Vinegar hill, down to Hunterville and cut through Fordell to Wanganui, then up the Paraparas and through National Park.
That's an equally nice ride to the Pohangina Valley.

Thanks KoroJ, I think we were going to go through Vinegar hill if the Desert Road had snow or if the the weather was a bit crappy. I'm just going to follow everyone else, kinje will come up with the way to go. :) Going through Ashurst is also a possibility... meet up with some of the Ashurst boys.

Damn having to retype this- posted last night but there was a software upgrade on and it didn't go through.
That could be a good route. I take it its sealed all the way? Is it kinda like the road to Alfredton we rode down last weekend with the moss and stuff?
Lissa can only do 150km on a tank, will this road be OK?

yes the road is all sealed and it offers alot to all riders lissa will be find as she should get to Taihape with ease if not there is mangawekaAs its a cruisy ride, and I DID want to leave earlier than 10am, but some people.. want to sleep in a bit. I thought we would just ride up, stop to fuel up, lunch in Taihape (?) and get to Turangi in the afternoon to rest my bottom!

Well after todays events I'll see how I'm placed for this trip. Hopefully I might be back up and running by then. If not, I guess I could take the car and bring gear for people so you can ride freely.
Fingers Xd

Ok... Theres just the Five of us going as far as I know.
Leaving Masterton at 10amish from mobil. We should make Ashhurst at about 11.30amish. I'm thinking a lateish lunch in Taihape. I unfortunately have to refuel every 150kms or so. I CANT WAIT! :sunny:
Got my fingers crossed you have a bike by then Brent!
Kinje
3rd July 2007, 21:16
Yeah, I hope I have my bike back. Guess the acid test will be how long I have to wait for parts.
Got my cage made legal today- after not driving it for ages and having the rego nearly 3 months expired and WoF a month expired! Maybe now that I've got car going again I can get my windsurfer back out in the weekends :cold:, seeing as I cant ride for a while

Cafe Blue in Ashhurst is OK (Biker friendly owner) and there's quite a good cafe in Kimbolton, as well as one at Flat Hills.....depending on which way you end up going.....or of course, Brown Sugar, The Exchange or the Gumboot place in Taihape.

Haven't ridden with anyone from the 'rappa yet but it's about time. Hope you're all friendly! I'm from Masterton but living in Palmerston North (@ Massey). This ride sounds like a good time to meet a few wairarapa riders... Hopefully my zephyr will be fixed - otherwise I'll bring my GB.

Yep we are friendly... its the welly riders that are dodgy. Its something in their water. But you being from Masterton you already know that. :)
Let us know where to meet ya. You will have to find your own accommodation me thinks, but I think some others might be coming as well who have to. Saturday Night we will meet up for drinkies anyway.. should be a good time. :Punk:

I've just hatched a cunning plan.
Seeing as I may have to take my cage and don't get to enjoy the thrill of riding my motorcycle to Turangi, perhaps I should take my skis and have a couple of days on the mountain. I could still take gear for the rapa crew, but I would probably want to get away quite early (5-6 am ish or maybe even the fri night!) and therefore may not be able to take gear for the KD's.
Thats my cunning plan so that at least I can get a good blast on the weekend away without my bike.
Kinje
9th July 2007, 13:35
OK, with Murray selling his bike he no longer wants to come with us now :( and therefore we can't use the batch.
Just had a look on the Extreme backpacker (http://www.extremebackpackers.co.nz/accommodation.html)and Club habitat (http://www.clubhabitat.co.nz/tariff.htm)websites.
There are a couple of possible options.
Extreme have the 8 bed dorms $21 pp (no bedding) or the 6 bed ensuite $24 pp.
Club habitat have 6 bed backpacker room $22 pp (no bedding) or Family unit $27 pp (based on 5 people)
Any preferences?
Hey.....21st is racing weekend! and I can't do both:bye:
Two options?
1) Change the weekend so the racers can go too
2) The racers go Manfield-Turangi instead of Manfield-Home
??
(Besides, if its postponed until 28/29, I might have my Boike back!)

Due to Kinje not having a bike for this trip, and other unforseen circumstances where others may not be able to go, we are going to have to POSTPONE this Rapa Road Trip. :(
Bit sad as I was really looking forward to getting out of the Wairarapa and doing my first big trip... and getting drunk! :crybaby: We will definately be still doing it, just at another time, maybe in better weather. Sorry to anyone who has been put out...
Me and Kinje are still thinking of doing the Cold Kiwi though, which almost but not entirely makes up for it.
Thanks
Melissa

Yeah, sorry guys.
With a few unforseen and unfortunate events we've decided to postpone :(
Yep, hopefully I'll be back up and running for Cold Kiwi and heading up to that with a bit of a crew.
And keep watching as the Great Rapa Roadtrip will be run to somewhere at some other time :second:
