Leaving a friends place in Hamilton in a somewhat good mood heading for Auckland I had the complete displeasure to witness a youngish chick getting the living snot bashed out of her on the footpath....and no I don't mean a slap etc,it was a beating
Naturally I stopped and hauled a rather large bogan off her as I can't handle seeing this sort of shit. He wasn't amused and decided in his over hyped state that it would be a good idea to have a crack at me!
LOL...dumb farker hooked me...in the helmet to which I hogged into said bogan with much assertiveness as I like my helmet and didn't think too much of said bogan.
Started off as a decent bit of biffo but he really didn't seem to like my new Shift "fark off" gloves nor my size 10's so became rather subdued after about a minute or so.
Oh...then the muckhole that was being given a serious hiding decided that I was a C*nt...yeah great! There she is with what had to be a broken nose, one eye swollen over, blood streaming from her mouth and I'm the c*nt? :gob:
Now usually I would never get involved in peoples personal matters even if it's a full on argument but this was a full on beating on a public street! I'm talking fists, saw him headbutt her at one stage too.
It has made me think about not helping out in the future but I can't see myself riding/driving past something like that....I don't think I'm capable.
So if any of you Hamiltonians see a large white piece of white trash hobbling about with chunks missing say hello from me will ya?
BTW...no I didn't contact the Police either. She didn't deserve their valuable time.
Ahhhhhhh...rant over

A bit of advice for you! Don't ever get between the two parties in a "domestic". One or other of them will always turn on you.
I nursed a guy who was stabbed in the shoulder by the "victim" he had just saved from a beating.
Just ring the cops and ride on by!

I wouldn't "know" of course.....but , from personal experience, I can say they have a "look" about them that screams domestic.
I would get involved in almost any other circumstance but not in a domestic.

Ahh good on ya DMNTD, you didn't know the full facts - but you took it on yourself to stop a male bully from stomping on a female on the face of it. I guess if you knew the reaction you were going to get, you wouldn't get involved.
But you didn't. You came to the aid of someone being brutalised and you were in a position to do something about it! On ya! :niceone: I guess you need to avoid being the Punisher for these miscreants.
Good to hear you knew yourself, knew your enemy and decided to take action. Now go back to riding your bike!
yeeeesh, thats messed up.

Good on ya!
If the majority of us in this country had the same attitude then this country would be a lot safer.
Came across a woman in Tokoroa lying on the footpath with this guy hunched over her, fists flailing everwhere. Stopped asked, 'you ok?'
She replyed.....'piss off'
Turned out I think she had the upper hand!
I told myself, at least I stopped. That is what I would expect of others if it was my daughter there.
We need more citizens like you mate , problem is that if plod had driven past you would have most likely been charged with something!

Yesterday, there was a knock at my door. It was Mr Enrolment, trying to make sure I am ready to vote. As we stood at the door discussing said forms, a car screeched up to the curb outside my place, and all maner of shit starts flying out the window. Lots of yelling and screaming and a baby seat is thrown out the door.
Girl gets out with baby, goes to boot to grab something else, and the guy in the drivers seat floored it and took off, leaving this girl, baby, baby seat, and various other bits of clothes etc strewen around the place.
She picked her shit up, and stormed off. I called out and asked If I could give her a lift somewhere, to which she replied 'FUCK OFF I DONT NEED YOUR FUCKING HELP'
So yeah I thought at least I offered.
5 minutes later there was another knock on my door.. It was the girl and baby asking if I could give her a lift home..

I don't doubt that you did the right thing. Unfortuntley woman who find themselves in this sort of situation blame themsleves. Strange as that my seem she sees herself at fault and with this mindset, in most cases they will defend their attacker who in most cases will be there partner. This incident does need to be reported to the police.

Good on you for doing the right thing.
However people in abusive relationships seem to be a bit brain washed and will protect their abuser from a good sorting out that they deserve.
Colleague of mine in the UK got in the middle of a domestic once (he was beating the crap out of her in the street) and she started attacking him when he got in the middle.
I think like Yungatart - call the cops - you'll not get any thanks for your trouble as sad as the case maybe.

The only problem with helping in a domestic, is the guy beating on her, might think you are a new boyfriend or somthing and he might up the beating later on.
Best bet is to call the police. Or restrain him and make sure he belives you dont know either of them. Then kick the livin shit out of him.

Well, I'm glad there are people out there like you, that will intervene if need be... I'd hate to get beaten up on the street like that, coz I couldn't punch to save myself, but, apprently, my slap is better... so dunno *shrug*
I had a friend, in Taranaki, who saw something suspicious going on in a car at a lookout... went up to the car and hello, a guy trying to rape his ex gf and then probably murder her or take her away... they'd had a domestic and broken up, but they guy just couldn't let go... fortunately, my friend had his gf in his car too... so while my friend was restraining (aka beating the sh!t out of him) his gf was calming the girl down, giving her support, until the cops arrived. It was all over the news, however, my friend remained nameless. I'm so glad, there is people out there like yourselves will wont take no bullsh!t and will help us girls out if needed.
I remember coming across a fight after school one day.. I was the only one out of a bunch of girls and guys to intervene. I nearly got punched myself, but after the boys realised there was a "girl" involved, they stepped down a bit and allowed me to drag one of them across the street where they could only yell abuse to each other (by god they were big too!!) while, eventually, my friends who were with me, managed to calm the other one down. Problem solved. No harm done. I did end up with a bruise, but nothing major. I threatened to ring the cops too, in which one of them jumped on his bike and went home.
Rant over

You did the right thing, whether you thought she was worth it or not.
Her reaction is a very common one unfortunately. She'd been told it was her fault and that getting the bash was punishment and she deserved it. When you jump in she still believes it and tries to protect the scummy piece of crap that was beating the snot out of her and now she also believes that him getting the shit beaten out of him is also her fault. No win situation unfortunately. But at least you get a say in where the beating is directed eh.

I reckon you did the right thing too. You weren't to know what sort of person SHE was, she might have been a total stranger to the basher and could have saved her life, you might have done that anyway, even though she was, shall we say, ungrateful.
If that had been my daughter I'd be forever in your debt and I'm glad you have the physical wherewithal and the balls to step in when you see the need. Calling the cops is probably the right thing to do but if that woman had been an 'innocent party' she might have been dead before they got there.
Top action. Good on you.

The objective is simply to prevent a woman being hurt, the fact that you need it explained is depressing. A society that behaves any other way is a short lived one. Minimum force by all means, but it must be done. The last time I was exposed to such behavoiur the sight of me taking a pic with my phone and then dialing was enough. If you go into a fight of that nature and the assailant is that hyped up, there is only one thing to do and that is take the assailant down as fast and thoroughly as possible, by whatever means. You dont stand and argue while they size you up for a good thrashing.

First of all- bloody well done, DMNTD.
As far as the woman being ungrateful: someone said earlier that she was probably brainwashed into thinking she deserved it: this is almost certainly true. She will have extremely low self esteem. She will feel a lot of shame, and will know that if she sides with the person saving her (therefore challenging the idea that it's her fault and that the knob beating her is in the right) tomorrow could be a hell of a lot worse.
Plus, the humiliation and being full of adrenaline herself could well cause her to side with him to be (briefly) on the 'strong' side and 'lessen' her sense of humiliation. A similar dynamic that turns beaten kids into bullies.
However. Somewhere inside her head she will have registered that what he was doing was so disgusting to a passing male stranger that he stopped and did something about it. Down the line this may help her decide to get out, since her faith in her own opinion has probably been largely destroyed at this point.
I would never walk past something like this going on, and I'm 5'4" in my boots, and 50 kg. He'd be wearing the nearest chair.
P.S. While I do understand people thinking that women who stay with these morons are idiots, it really doesn't help anyone. They already think they're stupid- that's the problem. Other people reinforcing it? Not helpful. Plus these guys have a habit of coming after women who have left, and occasionally their families as well. It really isn't that simple.

Well done defender of the innocent! Top man to stop and offer aid and assistance to someone so firmly entrenched in the sub-culture that is alive and well in NZ that they can't offer up any thanks except for a bit more abuse. I remember seeing those "new Shift "fark off" gloves" on Saturday, seems they may be the business in more ways than one. It could have been my daughter there, so thank you for coming to her aid.

good on ya DUMTED, about time you did something useful.
p.s. sounds like fun down your ways, save some for me.
Retaliation is completely different from intervention my friend.
So in Grahameeboy's case it is better to intervene for those you don't know, that to retaliate in defence of your family. DMNTD is the man and is an example that is becomming quite rare. Some of the males nowdays would have tried to ripoff her handbag while she was distracted.

But what happens if as a result of your actions, she gets hurt more?
You can't rush fists first into any situation.
I'd get in the way of the guy. And stop him from hurting the said lady, I would not fight back, I'd take the punishment he deals out to me and try to calm him down. First I'd call the cops and make sure they are on the way.
I wouldnt want what he would do on my consience.

Anyone with any knowledge in economics would not say that. India is the fastest growing economy in the world and by 2010 will be the second largest unline some other countries who see one recession after another and blame the government who they elect. A recession with 4 million people, put a billion + people on the streets and Id like to c how any economy runs.. besides im not her to discuss politics but that was an uninformative post unfortunately. goodday.

Chris you did absolutely the right thing. Without a shadow of a doubt.
I had something similar happen to me in Taupo years ago. Was walking with a group of friends and saw a guy just in front of us knock a woman to the ground and swing his foot back to kick her. I ran at him and shoved him in the chest, he lost his balance and staggered backwards into a wall. Two things that happened next totally amazed me...
1) My friends carried on walking (males and females)
2) The woman got up off the ground and screamed at me to leave her boyfriend alone
I was very, very disheartened by both those things, but I made a conscious decision that I would do exactly the same thing again in the same circumstances. I'm the one who has to live with my conscience and I know what I need to do to be able to live with myself.
Chris, I trust you to do the same again (once you get over your justified anger at her for her attitude). And I promise I'll do the same for you.

That's the best post I've seen in a long time.

LOL...dumb farker hooked me...in the helmet to which I hogged into said bogan with much assertiveness as I like my helmet and didn't think too much of said bogan.

Bling awarded... well done... should have got the cops onto it, you were defending her, then yourself.
She may have spoken out at you only for the mere fact that if she didn't stick up for her man (and I use this term "man" very loosely...), she would get another severe beating later from him... seen it all too often, abuse us all the way until he is removed in cuffs, then she apologises profusely and explains exactly this reason....
All too often, it is one word against another but having a witness is invaluable...

This may be a bit off topic a bit but there have been some comments that going off to do battle with a helmut on you skull is some protection. Yes with a baseball bat. But it's a real danger. Helmuts are the easiest things to grab hold of with your bear hands. Control the head and you control the body. Put another way if someone grabs your helmut a sudden twist of the neck and you could be dead before you hit the ground. Just a thought to ponder on guys.

Yep my brother n law was layed into and had his leg broken (ended up in hospital) and his friend was knocked unconscious - . They had just minutes earlier innocently been walking along the footpath when a random girl claimed she needed help or something....re a "domestic"...next thing the "tough guys" turned up and the girl turned on them (my bro in law) , calling them names etc while they were getting beaten to a pulp!! charming
